RACISM AMONG YOUR OWN KIND! I hate to leave a review of this nature but feel compelled to warn potential customers of this kind of behavior in 2020. I was discriminated against by the black male bartender because I am a black female (who came...to this establishment with my white fiance). Apparently the bartender has a problem with interracial couples w/black women. This past Sunday 2/16/2020 My fiance and I had reservations for dinner at 5 p.m. We arrived early and were seated at the bar until the kitchen opened. I ordered a cocktail called the "Penthouse View" and things went to hell from there!
After viewing the drink menu, I politely called the bartender to order. He looked at me without saying anything a preceded to make my drink. It took him 12 min to grab 1 glass, ice, and the 4 beverages needed to make my drink. Mind you, the restaurant is damn near EMPTY! Meanwhile, this man is looking at me with the look of death in between grabbing each item at a snail's pace. After he collected MOST of the items, he abandons making my drink altogether and disappears into the kitchen. He comes out exactly 4 minutes later with a cucumber (its the garnish for this cocktail). He proceeds to peel the cucumber. He then AGAIN abandons making my drink altogether and goes to the other side of the bar to carry on a lively conversation with a party of 3 black patrons who came together. Meanwhile, my fiance and I are looking at each other in complete disbelief!
I purposely told my fiance not to say anything because I wanted to watch this scenario unfold. He carried on a 3 minute conversation with the party of 3 while my fiance and I sat and stared at my abandoned drink/supplies. We are literally looking at my ice melt because when he abandoned my drink, he left the glass and the supplies right in front of us within arms reach. He wanted to make sure we knew, that he knew, he didn't like my choice of men! He finally comes back to my glass, shakes my ice, and then pours in the Topo juice and slides me the drink. I kindly said "thank you" He just turned his head. At this point, my fiance suggested we just leave. I told him no because I wanted to honor our reservation. We then tipped the bartender. I said "thank you" as my fiance handed him a generous tip...then guess what he says??? He then says under his breath without even looking at me "thank you [PAUSE] then says "your welcome". WOW!
Believe it or not, I didn't respond to his antics. We simply left when the waiter called us. It was obvious this man was trying to evoke some sort of reaction out of us (me "the black woman" in particular). However, I am too old to fall for these tricks. To add insult to injury, when the other 3 black patrons got up to leave, he loudly and happily told them to "have a great day and enjoy the food!"
Is it really like that brotha? Did you really have to go out of your way to mistreat me even though I did nothing to you and showed you respect even when you clearly had none for me? Smdh
TAKE-HOME MESSAGE: What's interesting to me is that I'm quite sure this bartender watches a countless number of black men enter into this restaurant with their white women, Asian women, Spanish women, etc and he probably doesn't do/say anything at all! However, I guess it's a crime for me (a black woman) to enter into the restaurant with a white male? Also, how could you treat your own kind like this. This is sad! I hope the owner of this establishment reads this review and checks this behavior. I came to this place for the first time with excitement. I pass this place everyday driving home from the medical center. Even though the food was sub-par, I would have given this place 3 stars...but because of this bartender I must give 1-star. Interracial-couples please beware! And just in case anyone is wondering...no I did not walk into this restaurant showing out, seeking attention, acting a fool, or trying to be someone I'm not. I'm a quiet person who minds their own business and so is my fiance. NO one deserves to be treated like this!More
