Wonderful ambiance and welcoming staff makes for a great first impression, then the fun really starts...cocktails are a specialty and they really know what they are doing. I have wanted to try two things for a long time and have not found a place that served them. Chapulinas turned out to be very tasty and I no longer have an... More

Nothing's wrong with Tex-Mex food, as a matter of fact, we love it! But Hugo Ortega (Owner, along with his wife Tracey Vaught) came from Mexico years ago with a desire to cook the sort of Mexican food he'd eaten since birth. Shortcut long and very romantic story to present-day: Hugo does just this with his wife's support at their... More

When planning our trip to Houston we were advised by both locals and friends at home to eat at Hugo's. Hugo's did not disappoint! The Hugo Rita's were a smashing hit! The food was well prepared and very tasty. Our server was patient and kind with explanations. Be sure to make reservations. We were there on a Thursday night and... More

My wife and I had lunch at Hugo's in late December and the meal will remain in my memory as the best Mexican meal I have ever had. At lunch they offer 2 appetiser courses for $22 and, as I wanted to try as much as possible, I ordered 4 appetisers for my meal. My wife ordered the Chicken Enchilada.... More

I have been to Hugo's a number of time while visiting Houston and I can honestly say it is the best Mexican restaurant I have ever encountered. This is gourmet Mexican food like, I imagine, what you might find in a top restaurant in Mexico. I was there most recently for happy hour. I had several small plates, including terrific... More

Probably the best authentic and upscale Mexican restaurant in Houston, Been eating here for many years and it has never disappointed. The Sunday brunch buffet is my favorite: seafood enchilladas, poached egg over sweetened cornbread, slow cooked pork and beef brisket, delicate empanadas, and roasted root veg -- all wonderful, especially when topped off with desserts such as tres leeches,... Had a great late lunch at the bar. We enjoyed the food, our fellow patrons and the highly attentive and personal service. Cool people, great neighborhood and the food + margaritas were terrific. Loved the fresh ceviche, and fresh rolled quesido with beef and mushrooms. Had a delicious pork dish from their starter menu...also wonderful. Even good coffee to end... More

Catfish tacos were fabulous but they give you ONLY 2! Listed as entre but really it's an appetizer. Still worth it! Killer margaritas.

Hugo's has an excellent - and growing - reputation among Houston diners looking for authentic upscale Mexican (as opposed to Tex-Mex) cuisine. For the most part, this is well deserved. We were in a group of six and shared most of the dishes, so I was able to sample a wider range of fare than normal. The highlights were the... More

Forget about US style upscale Mexican restaurants. This is different. It is a very nice place. The food is exceptional if not very different assorted flavors. Many of the items sound like what we had experienced before ustil we discovered the unique flavors. Sopa do Mariscos a seafood soup that I could live on. Birria de res and carnitas de... More
