There has never been a meal I anticipated as much as the one I had at Salt Lick. Year prior, I had watched Adam Richman enjoy the eats of this place. Finally, I made it to Texas and HAD to swing by. Upon request, the hostess showed me around the restaurant and I got to see their famous Open Pit.... More

We ate supper here with a large group (16 people) and had an enjoyable evening. Authentic would be the word I'd choose to describe the place. I had ribs and sausage, and both were good. The service was outstanding. The place was packed on a Monday evening. I'm glad we had reservations.

Ate here during recent trip to San Antonio on the way to visit Jester King brewery. Big place with seating for 300-400 people but still can get crowded. We visited on a Friday afternoon at ~2:30 and had about 45 min wait. Once you get seated the service is great and you will get food placed in front of you... More

So I saw this place on a t.v. show, and happened to be near (30 minutes in New Braufels, Tx. Also noted about 1 hour from San Antonio) I went and asked for "what people come here for" and got the $24.95 ribs and all you can eat sides... for which there is no reason for all you can eat...... More

Don't let the parking area filled with hundreds of cars scare you. They all came because they know it's worth the trip and the wait. On a busy night expect to wait about 45 min (no reservations), but that's ok - gives you time to listen to some live music and/or have a beer before dinner while you sit at... More

The atmosphere was cool - like you were having a cook-out at someone's house. It's BYOB so a lot of people were hanging around. The meat wasn't as good as other places in Austin, although the ribs were very good. Their bbq sauce is mustard based, which seemed to surprise people. Their cobbler was delicious. We went for lunch on... More

Down and dirty BBQ, picnic tables and all. Huge BBQ pit grill, fantastic sausage, brisket and ribs. Not to mention cole slaw and potato salad. All you can eat for under $25. Totally worth the half hour drive outside of Austin.

We were taken to Salt Lick as a must do thing while in Austin. We waited in line for 15 mins to collect our buzzer, then waited 110 mins for the buzzer to go and in the end we went and asked where we were in the queue. They had rung the buzzer 15 mins before but it hadn't worked.... More
