My wife and I went there for lunch today based on lots of recommendations, and we were very happy we tried it out. My one surprise (my fault for not doing my research) was that it was “family” style seating and also the food is...served “family” style. And I mean “family” as in the strangers we just sat with, and we are now passing around and sharing food as if we were at Nana’s Sunday dinner! Another odd, but enjoyable surprise is you are eating whatever is being served for the day. So once getting past all that, the food was very good and it was a unique way of getting to try lots of different things! My favorite was the catfish and green peas salad. Overall I would recommend trying when visiting Nashville. Just be prepared for the experience and also to wait as they don’t take reservations and are very busy.More
Went as a solo traveller and the format was great for that - sitting with a group of people who all want to be social. The food was good but not great - it’s really all about the format. The wait time at 1pm on...a Sunday was around 45 minsMore
Fun & delicious dining concept around the table family style. Seating is first come first served with strangers at a large table. You eat what you’re served (and it’s all delicious) with a few fun rules: no cell phones allowed at the table, all dishes...are passed around the table, eat as much as you possibly can- and you will because it is delicious- get to know your table companions, and leave when you’re full. No nonsense, get it done! Felt like Thanksgiving! Super fun and really great food.More
This place was the absolute best!! We went two mornings in a row for breakfast! Great atmosphere, the food was phenomenal and the price was also good! I will be coming back everytime I’m in the area!
not good. It was worse then Denny's. Food was mediocre at best. I looked into the kitchen and thought I was in another country. Old and outdated as well.
Such a different experience for breakfast. Located in a quiet residential area - would not know it's there if hadn't been for friend taking us there. They sit you at a table where there are seats available - so you are with strangers but great...chance to chat to people. Not traditional breakfast and having fried chicken for breakfast wasn't something I'd want to try, but loads to pick from. Corn pudding was lovely. Best grits I've tasted. Good service and keep giving you food as long as you eat it (don't ask for doggy bags). Food is passed around the table, which again is great to get you chatting to other people. Set price for breakfast but will charge extra for orange juice. Plus price shown is before tax and tips. Definitely worth a trip if you are in Nashville.More
We love this spot! While being seated with strangers can be awkward at first, it wears off after a few minutes and everyone starts chatting and passing dishes around. The fried chicken and corn pudding are to die for. We haven’t tried breakfast but I...can imagine it is just as good. Can’t wait to visit again the next time we’re in Nashville! Disappointed to hear the location at the Manor will be closing.More
OMG, don’t second guess, go to Monell’s for the best Southern food in a casual, family style setting that takes you back in time!
Monells knocks it out if the park! We experienced Victorian Christmas and it was nothing short of amazing! What a grand way to begin the holiday season!
Friendly, family style breakfast spot. Charming location in Germantown with a lovely patio, complete with coy pond, to wait for your table. Diners are seated family style - at one long table- so if you are a party of 2 for instance, you’ll sit with...9 others- table are usually for 10-12 diners. Food is brought out family style then passed to the left for everyone. We had breakfast & were lucky to sit at a friendly table where we all talked! Breakfast was biscuits & gravy, cinnamon roll, scrambled eggs, creamed corn, grits, pancakes, sautéed apples, potatoes, bacon, ham, sausage and fried chicken. Ice tea, water and coffee. For app $18 it was filling & a good value. Nothing fancy or fine dining (if had better breakfasts) but completely enjoyable & certainly filling! Spend some time walking it off in a charming neighborhood!More
Great for a group as they seat with other parties until your table is full. Not recommended for an intimate date.
OMG, horrible experience. I invited 2 friends to meet me there for Sunday Lunch. We were ushered to a small room with 2 long tables that seat at least 12 each. the room was crowded, hot. noisy and the food was not fit for a...pig pen, plus extremely expensive. Huge disappointment. I would NEVER go there again or recommend to anyone.More
We were seated immediately with a couple from Georgia and a Mom, her daughter, and her grandson. The table was ready for its next guests. Cole slaw and pasta salad were already on the table when we sat down. Pitchers of water, sweet and unsweetened...tea, and lemonade were also on the table, ready to pour. The meal is family style, so as they bring out the food, you pass it around the table. If you run out of something, they will bring out more. Each day, they serve a different meal, and you don't order off a menu. The day we ate there, our meal included fried chicken, baked chicken, pork chops, green beans, Cole slaw, pasta salad, corn pudding, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, corn bread, dressing, peach marmalade, fried apples, and chocolate eclair for dessert. Fried chicken is served at every meal, even breakfast. It was a wonderful experience and only about $19 per person. The restaurant is in an old mansion (next to the airport). Another location is downtown Nashville. The outside of the restaurant is rundown and could use a fresh coat of paint and some landscaping. However, the interior welcomes you with a beautiful staircase and chandelier. Very enjoyable experience. The other families at our table were very friendly and enjoyable to talk to about why they were in town and where they are from. I recommend it for small or large groups.More
Don’t know where to start on this one - Do not MISS THIS PLACE. Place has ample, comfortable outdoor seating while you wait. Wait was 42 minutes. So worth it. Table, Family Style - YOU WILL SIT AND EAT WITH STRANGERS. But it’s awesome. SO...MUCH FOOD - comes out - they serve each bowl to a different person and everyone passes to the left - Fried Chicken Grits - OMG Eggs Corn Mash- so good Biscuit/gravy Apples Bacon Sausage Ham I actually think I’m missing something. All excellent!!! Coffee good. Place looks great. Service friendly. THANK YOU !More
