Decked out in old Australiana and memorabilia. A huge range of whiskeys available. Had a ham/ cheese fruit platter for $42 for 2 people. Quite nice but modest in size.
The owners had done a lovely job putting the place together and were happy to chat.
However, and the reason I dropped this review to 3 stars was the lack.of P.R. skills and compassion from the main employee with colorful long hair.
While we had a booking, the bright portable sign out the front near the road plainly said cafe and bar open with no mention of bookings. We observed an elderly disabled couple struggle, 1 with 2 crutches up the walkway and sat wearily in the foyer. The employee said they could not have a table as they hadnt booked. The couple kindly asked if they could just have a cuppa and a devonshire tea. This request was met with a flat out refusal and were told if bookings arent made they dont know how much food to have on hand or prepare. This venue is a 5 minute drive from Yea township. There were not many tables occupied for the 45 min we were there.
Well they wont be returning.
I asked if there were any gf crackers, to be bluntly told I should have requested them on our booking.
The elderly couple sadly left.

6 of us wanted to go and try the Killingworth Hill Cafe not only for the Devonshire teas but sampling of the whisky last weekend.
We asked the Information Centre how to find and proceeded to travel down Killingworth Rd.
We were all disappointed to find that you were not open on Saturday 31st August as the place was closed.
May be worth putting a closed sign on the main highway or inform the Information Centre when you are not open.

My wife and I called in here for lunch on the way back from Bonnie Doon. The place is really quite quirky and for whisky lovers being a distillery would make the place special. We shared a cheese platter which for $38 was excellent with plenty of food served. However the coffee at $7 per cup was quite disappointing. But well worth a visit, but just need to improve the coffee

I don't know that it worth killing for but it's pretty good. Was pleasantly surprised by the number of vegetarian options. Three of us visited about a month ago and we all enjoyed the meal as well as the ambience of the seating in the outside garden area. I also liked my apple cider. Hope to return one day.

This place is a disgrace! Early Jan which is peak season, the sign off the road says they are open Fri to Sun till 6pm. However when my family (including two young children) and we wanted to visit for a quick whisky at 4pm, we were told they were closing. But 10mins later another car drives up and suddenly they are open. What a disgrace!! Tell me that's not discrimination at its best!! Will never bother returning!

$8 can of coke, $25 for a shot of whiskey (no mix), $48 for ham platter for one. $8 for a Mocha with some weird plate of cream, chocolate, 3 blueberries and a strawberry. Sat at the front door like we where on display. An elderly couple told they had to pay before they sat outside as they have had people doing runners before. Man say’s “I”m 65, I couldn’t run anywhere”. Drink menu was about 30 pages which was smelly laminated sheets.
Needless to say we went some where else for lunch and had a great meal.
Will never go back.

Beautiful gardens and quirky interior spoilt by an unwelcoming owner who made us feel very uncomfortable. Her customer service skills are non existent.
We did enjoy the scones but overall the food was so overpriced. Coffee was extremely poor quality and this feedback to the owner did not go down very well.
We will not be returning.

We went here for a whisky tasting and will never go back. Upon arriving we started looking around at all of the quirky items hung on the walls and ceiling, only to be told not to go into the third room as people were dining in there. That wasn't actually the case. It was one couple sitting at a table with no food or drinks. Besides, all of the rooms are set out with tables and chairs, and we had to pass by a large group on our way out so I'm not sure where the logic was with that.
We viewed their whisky tasting menu and made our choice. All servings advertised as "drams". Smallest drams we've ever seen, and we're part Scottish! I swear she measured about half a dozen drops with an eye dropper, and they then have the nerve to add a surcharge because we were there on a weekend (they're only open Fri - Sun!). Their food menu was also way overpriced, especially for what the items were.
Overpriced, overrated, rude, never again. Do yourselves a favour and give this place a miss!

Grounds are lovely, looks like a perfect location to have a whiskey to warm your heart on a cold winters day. But be warned staff are disappointing, with unfriendly and unwelcoming hospitality. The owner walked out as we arrived. No hello, just straight into “do you have a booking, we’re about to close”, they close at 6pm on a Saturday and we arrived at 4:30. We proceeded to sit down. Hubby was disappointed when he went inside to get a menu. Staff behind the bar offered the same lacklustre hospitality. We left. Their loss not ours. We were willing to pay, but decided to leave and write a review instead. Go somewhere else that’s wanting your service and provides a warm welcoming. You get better service from the local IGA and servo.

While travelling in the area party of 4 decided to check this venue thinking we could get coffees some charcuterie & whisky tasting perhaps as it’s supposedly a cafe as well
Arrived 4pm Friday. With very cold reception . Eventually told kitchen & coffee machine shuts at 3 & no alternative offered.
Whisky tasting is too expensive but we tried it.
Have never felt more unwelcomed at such a venue. Don’t bother or waste your time & money!!!!

Wish we had read the negative reviews BEFORE coming here.So unfriendly and not welcoming. Whiskey tasting expensive, other menu items also seemed overpriced.
Have no idea why these people l are in the hospitality business, as they sure weren’t hospitable.

We are a group of 7 and called to make a booking for platter and drinks. Person who answered the phone was SO rude. It felt like the Spanish inquisition. You would like to think after COVID shutdown they would be grateful of the business. So rude we decided to take our custom elsewhere.

We dropped in a couple of weekends ago having been there when they first opened. It was excellent just like the last time, very friendly service, fantastic Food (the Broccoli Soup was sensational as was the Devon shire Tea Scone) and awesome ambience. They have Gin and Whiskey tasting and a great drinks menu. A real Gem and our number one place in Yea.
