Colourful friendly remake of what was once one of Balmain's dingiest (but still friendly) pubs. Reasonable beers and somewhat reasonable prices.

While visiting Sydney I found this pub on the corner, it looks very dated on the outside but inside is really nice. Sat out the back in the beer garden and it was very nice. Cool Tiki garden set up and relaxing atmosphere. The fish...and chips were yum and the staff friendly.More
It’s an oddly laid out hotel. We visited on a Sunday arvo and unfortunately they only had tables indoors, in not the most charming of areas (the venue seems large from the outside, so am assuming other areas were closed off??). I’d recommend booking if...you’d prefer a table in their courtyard. The burgers were tasty enough (a beef burger and a pea & halloumi burger), albeit the latter could have done with more flavour / some spice.More
We popped in here for lunch and staff were courteous and friendly. Lovely rump steak ($18) cooked to perfection plus tradition beer battered fish n chips with salad. Great for anyone with dogs as dogs more than welcome in the outside area. They even had...a menu specially for our 4 footed friends (see photos) $5 will buy your best friend as wonderful lunch.More
Simple review... I’m standing at the bar with two other people who are being served. The only other person in the bar joins to be served. One of the bar staff finishes who they’re serving then proceeds to serve the new arrival. I’m still standing...there... The place was empty. How can you be so unaware of who needs to be served next? Not the first time I’ve experienced this here. Sorry but bar staff need training! (I worked in pub in UK for years and no way would that have been accepted) Sorry guys... crappy service.More
When we visited the Balmain it was happy hour ( between 5 and 7pm ) so our drinks were only $5 each. We also shared a very nice cheeseburger for $17K. We sat outside in the large beer garden. The choice of beers on tap...was a bit disappointing so I had to settle for the Tooheys New, but at least it was cheap ! The staff were friendly and there is a bottle shop attached to the Balmain. I would happily return to the BalmainMore
Popped in for first time. Pub has interesting floor plan but it works. Staff friendly and comfy atmosphere to chat. Worth giving it a try
Wow, great old style pub, great staff, booths and the food - unbelievable Try the poke bowl and buffalo wings - fab Do yourself a favour
Had a quick evening here on my travels before heading into town, it was just the sort of place where you can have a good chinwag over some decent cider.
We happened upon this pub while staying in Balmain. We loved the decor inside and out. The food was delicious, especially the Aspen fries. Great choice of interesting and healthy food on the menu. Overall a fantastic find.
Had a Balmain Lager here that tasted very poor due to what I presume are lines that desperately need to be cleaned. Also the One Fifty Lashes had either a different keg attached to the tap, or again dirty lines.
Particularly nice on a sunny spring early evening - the outdoor space is very pleasant if a bit quirky. Four adults and two kids - we enjoyed a few drinks and the food was good; not haute cuisine but fine and reasonable value. The bar...(inside) has a series of spaces - the one with loads of TVs is pretty spartan. But other areas are quite okay.More
So, I'm the type of person that orders gravy with a side of chips. Love my gravy. I paid the extra $1 for gravy with my chips and was presented with a dismal tiny pot of gravy. I think 5 chips got a good covering...but the rest had to go in dry. Mind you, both the chips and the gravy were delicious, just room for improvement on the gravy size.More
We arranged for a group of 70 or so family & friends to meet for a casual celebration. An area was reserved for us - the Tiki Huts at the rear of the property - which accommodated this number comfortably. We lucked a fine day,...but the area may not be so good in the rain. Service was great, both at the bar and bringing some food around. The joint struck me as unpretentious and certainly not lacking character, and our group all seemed to enjoy the laid back venue. Parking can apparently be a bit difficult sometimes, but we had no problem...More
The Balmain is our local pub and we love it! The decor is really nice, the staff are friendly and the burgers are great! Plus it is dog friendly! The beer garden is nice and comfortable but they close at 9.We go there at least...once a week for burgers and a beer. Pizzas are a bit overpriced.More
