Took advantage of the help eat offer this evening and went to the bay tree.
Tonight was a carribean street food night.
I choose the pinapple and chilli chicken dish stir-fry The food arrived on a wooden platter and a ceramic dish and a salad garnish.
The food was very tasty and best stir fry I've eaten.
I was a bit disappointed at first with the portion size, however when i got the cocept of it being street food, and price reflects that.
I ordered a second dish of jerk chicken, which was severd as above and again very tasty.
I observed the cocktails and drinks being served. All of them not the norm and served in large glasses.
Thier is nothing like this for miles.

Really quirky place that we popped in for a drink. We had milkshakes and a hot chocolate but the food that came out looked amazing that we wished we had eaten there. There was a good choice. Loved looking around at all the vintage memorabilia! The Alice in wonderland room was great. Such a fun place and better than the usual boring chain coffee shop!

Lovely restaurant Amazing features that add the experience.
Food was top class as was the Service.
From the moment we enter till we left.
We were met by very smiley and helpful staff behind the counter. And a Rather large selection of cakes.
We were sat at a great table.
And due to mother's dietary needs she asked lots of questions. All were answered very quickly and informed of anything she might need to know.
A great place with a lovely atmosphere. Keep up the great work 😁

Never been here before but always wanted to try. Went in and ordered coffee for two and a piece of lemon drizzle cake. One coffee to be extra hot. Both coffees were served extra hot (one not asked for) and the lemon drizzle cake was awful. Tasted like synthetic lemon, the meringue/sugar toppings were tasteless. My partner said to the server that it did not taste right/nice and gave it back after one forkful. She mentioned it tasting very synthetic. The server said yes probably as probably from the supplier. Was not offered anything else, money back etc and there was too much of a queue at the counter to wait to see the person behind. I suspect the manager/owner. Also there was someone singing, in my opinion and the people at the next table (one took his hearing aid out) very badly. Very disappointing and would not dream of returning again.

Came for afternoon tea- they had run out of things on the menu but did not tell us on ordering so when it arrived it was totally different than expected. Childs afternoon tea was very expensive for what it was- would go for the normal one not the Alice in wonderland one as that only has a couple of pictures on the cakes. No crisps as said on menu. When we asked for the things that were missing they said that had just been busy so had to give us other things instead. We ordered for 4 adults but there was not enough of each sandwich each- they said we just had to share the 3 egg mayo between 4 so made it awkward for us. Food was bland and basic. Would not recommend. The venue its self is decorated quirky, however very rough around the edges. Improvement needed.

If you're visiting welshpool and want an overpriced venue that is style over substance then this is the place for you! If you'd like quality, then this place will not deliver. we visited over a week ago and paid for 3 children's afternoon teas, a full English and pancakes with bacon.
The afternoon tea was advertised as "a selection of sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls, cakes and pastries, served with juice or squash". The lady who served us stated "I've put them all together to save space", when in actual fact it was more to do with how shocking 1 would have looked in the holders.
What we received was:
half a sandwich per child, which were falling apart, a mouldy strawberry each, wilted salad and some cakes which were so cold and hard it seemed they'd just been defrosted from icelands desert section. There were 2 of each cake not 3 and the "pastries" consisted of one chocolate éclair, so we didn't even receive the 3 portions we had paid for. We received a small ramekin of stale tortilla crips between the 3 children and the orange juice was clearly off as it was curdled.
We were not table checked and the service was poor.
I messaged the manager who said she wasn't in but would get back to me the next day, we didn't hear anything. I've since messaged to have the response "the person who served you is on leave", however that doesn't excuse the fact that a "qualified" food prep person (they don't deserve to be called a chef) gave 3 young children mouldy strawberries, off juice and inedible salad. I wasn't going to post such a negative review had I received a half decent response from management, but they don't seem to care either. Definitely do not recommend this place.

We visited this cafe after we saw it had good reviews on trip advisor. We were sat upstairs on a dirty table. We looked at the cakes downstairs and we were told a waitress would come and take our order we waited ages and a lady came up serving another tablet and we asked if we could place an order- she said she would come back but never did. Eventually we got fed up of waiting and went downstairs. My husband placed the order and after a lengthy delay our drinks arrived. The milkshake served with mini doughnut and cream arrived as just a pint of milk with some sauce smeared on the edge of the bottle. Due to the shape of the bottle we couldn’t even get the straw in to scrape the sauce off. For the £4 price tag we expected it to be made out of ice cream and more flavour. After the drinks were finished our cakes finally arrived all of which were dry and nothing special despite their heightened price tag. Overall just very disappointing! The table next to us were having similar problems. The waitress must have been on her first day and they were told tea doesn’t come with their afternoon tea. They ordered a drink that never came and had to ask numerous times for condiments. One of the ladies ended up going to spar to get a drink! When we went to pay we complained about not having doughnuts and cream with it. I asked if we would be getting a discount in the price and I was told as it was a complimentary extra we wouldn’t get a discount. The mini doughnut and cream was listed on the menu. Eventually after arguing the fact we got a 50p discount! We just couldn’t believe we had paid £14 for the equivalent of 3 pints of milk and sauce that we could not taste or get off side of milk bottle .We were really looking forward to this drink and cake but we were so disappointed.

visited many times throughout the year but in my opinion the service had gone downhill. Went to bar to order, told take a seat and we'll come to you. 20 mins later still wating So, went to bar and placed order. Another 15 minutes and told what I'd ordered was not available. Eventually after a further 25 minutes I was served, despite someone ordering way after me and served within 10 mins. No proper chef in this establishment as far as I'm aware. Owner more intent on family than guests. A couldn't care less attitude if I ever saw one. Unlikely Ill be eating here again. Quaint little place. Only 1 unisex toilet so sometimes quire a wait. Difficulties manouvering wheelchairs even when less busy. Open less in evenings

Haven't been for a couple of years but was sorely disappointed. Extremely over priced, Soup £9.95 Jacket potato £9.95. The Tapas was the only reasonably priced dishes, 3 for £12.95 which we opted for to be told there were no tapas dishes available. So we didn't have lunch there, just a cup of tea. Used the toilet before leaving & the wall tiles, floor & toilet cistern were very grubby so really quite glad we didn't eat here.
I live locally with my own food business so was surprised to see standards have clearly slipped.

This restaurant has to be seen to be believed. An Alice in Wonderland area, a circus and fairground area. So much memorabilia. Even a jukebox (not working). My wife and I sat in a pod that once belonged to a fairground waltzer in the “naughty corner!
The breakfast menu was extensive, with plenty of choice for families. My wife had the American pancakes, which were delicious. I had the “Full Welsh” with the usual ingredients. (I couldn’t distinguish it from a Full English but never mind). The quantity was great but the waitress warned me the plate was hot as it had been in the oven. The food had been nicely cooked but having been kept hot in an oven it had started to dry, particularly the black pudding and the sausages. It took the edge off a very tasty and filling breakfast. A shame really.
All in all an enjoyable experience with many a chuckle at the artefacts (“All persons must wash weekly” we were ordered)!!

Popped in for a drink whilst visiting Welshpool for the day. Whilst quirky inside, appeared to be having work done, with wires everywhere and ceiling tiles missing. Menus were very sticky. Chose 2 different teas, to be told one was unavailable, whilst serving the other. Then 2nd choice was also unavailable, which seems quite poor for a tea room. Staff were not that engaging, and upon payment, the waitress was more fixated with her phone.

We went today after reading all of the great reviews and really wish we didn't bother. Although the interior design is pretty and unusual the tables and chairs are really crammed. Menu was crumpled and not up to date (for example lasagne and burgers were shown on the outside board but not on the menu which made us wonder if it was available or not). Service is very slow and our order got mixed up. We only ordered 2 cakes, latte coffee and a milkshake but coffee hasn't arrived until I asked for the missing part of the order which they seemed surprised about and it took another conversation with the waitress until it eventually arrived when we were almost finished eating cakes. The cakes were too dry and sweet and coffee weak. Overall the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I would recommend you find a different place if you are looking for tasty offerings, relaxed experience and good customer service because you won't find it in The Bay Tree Vintage Tea Room.

We used to come here all the time before covid and I am absolutely devastated by our visit the other day. It has seriously gone down hill. We were barely greeted when we walked in ,not welcoming at all. It seemed like the lady on the front counter didn’t even want to be there from first impressions either. The staff here need some serious costumer service training. I understand we all have bad days but I expected better from here. We ordered food and it was bland and looked messy/sloppy. We had also had 2x cappuccinos, the milk was way too hot and barely frothy. The whole place just looked like it needed a good clean. It was dark and cold and the music wasn’t helping the atmosphere either. We decided not to say anything as we don’t really like to make a fuss. We are just more than disappointed as this used to be one of our places to come when passing through on our travels. Truly truly sad about this place. Would definitely avoid as it’s lost its novelty and good food.

We visited the Bay Tree Vintage Tea rooms for lunch as it used to be ultra reliable. Sadly this estaishment has changed and not for the better. It used to have stunning Chesterfield sofas and armchairs which have all been removed. They have been replaced with fixed 'velour' diamonte benches which will look tired very quickly. The menu has been altered too. I ordered a pot of English Breakfast Tea (it's a tearoom, right?) I was served welsh teabag tea, not the same at all. The chips that came with our sandwiches, were 'poor' and clearly not cooked well.
All round this was a disappointing experience and we shall sadly not be returning in the near future. The old Bay Tree Vintage Tea Rooms was quirky, unique and quality but this has been replaced and I shall no longer be recommending it. Sorry😔

Saw some good reviews for the afternoon tea so decided to come here for my birthday. Wasn’t much of a welcome atmosphere on arrival. Interiors quirky, but dark, cold and crafty. Ordered the afternoon tea, the sandwiches and scones were nice, but the 2 cakes and shortbread biscuits were very plain with the same chocolate frosting. I’ve had some amazing afternoon teas and this one was disappointing and bland. I wouldn’t eat here again or recommend.
