The Raven appeared to be fiendly the food was as expected but what really upset us was as we were leaving one of the staff approached us and in front of a busy bar asked "Have you paid " Luckily my husband always asks for a receipt when paying by card . This was so embarassing as we had taken a relative that we were visiting out for lunch. Not inpressed What would of happened if we had not had the receipt .

Visited for Sunday lunch; selection of two roast meats as well as a separate menu; just as well we’d booked ahead as the restaurant was full, with people being turned away. Comfortable dining areas with enough space between tables, friendly atmosphere, staff efficient. We did feel a little sorry for the single fish in the fish tank though, only plastic contents in the tank, and a few bubbles from the filter, all a bit sad. Food wise Hubby had roast beef which was thickly cut and tender to eat, nice selection of fresh vegetables; I chose the slow cooked lamb shoulder; whilst this was lovely to eat, I felt it was overpriced for what it was when compared with the Sunday roast. A nice touch was the separate dogs’ menu; given we were all on holiday we decided to order one dog’s roast to takeaway. This came packaged in two containers, separating the meat from the veg; this was a generous portion enough for both our dogs to share 1 meal - a special treat! We hope to return to sample more from the menu!

Great food and friendly staff. Arrived at 5pm and it was nearly fully booked but they found us a table as it was just the 2 of us. The kids meal was a good size, lovely skin on chunky chips and homemade chicken nuggets. Hallumi wrap was good too - none of the rubbery stuff here. They let us park our camper van in the car park for the night too. Nice decor and comfortable surroundings.

When we got to the inn we stood in line for about 15 minutes they had good service but the food was horrible we waited ages for our food when we got our nachos we ate and they were made of pastry and extremely greasy we waited about half an hour and our meals came at different times. The chicken was rubber and the chips were greasy. Terrible never coming again

On arrival, we were greeted with 'u can't sit here' but there was no signage to advise us of that and weren't shown where we could sit, we had to wander round the restaurant as no one showed us available tables. We ordered a burger that was dry as a bone, the bun soggy with a very sad salad, together with a very runny (more like coloured water) thai curry with poor quality frozen oven chips. When I came to pay the bill at the bar i was completely ignored. Another member of staff came to the bar at the opposite side and continued to ignore me until I called across the bar and asked if I could pay my bill. She then came over and the ignorant girl who was previously there didn't apologise for keeping me waiting and for not acknowledging me. She said 'what table were u at' her attitude was very rude and abrasive. The prices do not reflect the quality of the food or service.

Our first time in town, wanted a nice meal so consulted local social media and TA. The Raven Inn looked good as central in location, decent parking, some comfy seating, and of course good reviews! I rang prior to our visit and booked a table as it was for Saturday lunch, staff who answered were very friendly and informative. The Raven Inn is a pleasantly decorated/designed, spacious restaurant with well stocked bar and good menu with outside area for warmer weather. Access is good for people with disabilities, good toilets and a decent sized disabled toilet too. The Meal......Two of us had the chicken supreme and the other two had the tuna steaks. We all enjoyed our meals, they were well presented, hot, nicely cooked and full of flavour. The only complaint was my mother wasn't keen on the what I would describe as Al Dente cooked vegetables. We quite like them cooked that way but mother said they were raw. For sweet we had Creme Brulee, Eaton Mess and fruit crumble which were all very nice. Luckily enough the sofa & chairs became available just as we finished our meal so retired to comfy seating by a roaring log fire. Nice relaxing vibe sitting round the oversized coffee table with coffees and drinks. High praise to the helpful, hard working front of house team, they are an asset to The Raven, would definitely recommend and will be back on our next visit to Welshpool.

I wouldn’t of rated it any stars if I had the chance, I was so looking forward to having a meal here with my husband, but upon arrival we weren’t greeted, went to ask a lad who worked there where to sit and order food looked at me and just plainly ignored me! Very arrogant! Then asked another girl walking past who had no idea (I mean why have staff if they don’t know even the basics) so we left! Won’t be back! Disappointed

A rather unsatisfactory Sunday dinner. For both price and taste were lacking, £16 for a vegetarian roast without the nut roast. Both lacking in service (no table service) and flavour. Although the pub itself was pleasant and warm, open spaced and nice tables.

We were a party of 5 and a dog. We called ahead to book a table. We were shown to our table and greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff. We all ordered something different, even the dog from the dog menu. All meals came out hot, fresh and very tasty. All of enjoyed it so much, we decided to book for the following evening. We all ate again the following evening and the experience was very much the same. Great food, all homemade and fresh. Good value for money, great service, very dog friendly. We will return again.

The first time we used this restaurant we were disappointed with the value for money. Some time later we decided to give it another try for lunch, however, after 40 mins we still hadn’t been served so we left (only have 1 hour for lunch). I gave it another try today and was again left with a ‘bad taste’ in my mouth. Over cooked/burned oily greasy chips, salad soaked in so much oil, far too much mayo used in the meal, chicken mayo and coleslaw. The strange oily, burned crisps were actually badly cooked home made nachos. There is also a very poor choice of sugar free soft drinks. Suffice to say we left the majority of our lunch. I did complain, and they said sorry, however no offer to fix the problem, or offer a refund, or change our choice in this very understaffed restaurant. Suffice to say that they have had their last chance. I will not be returning.

Friendly welcome from the bar man. Limited choice of 0% beers which is unusual these days. Decent choice on the menu, it was good to see they offered different portion sizes of some the main courses. Faggots were fine, but could do with a bit more oomph. Didn't have dessert, just a flat white each - although they have a proper machine, these were very poor, tasted more like instant coffee with too much milk. Need to improve there.

After me and my partner made 4 random stops here for lunch we knew that the food was good and the staff very friendly. With this track record it seemed the prefect venue for a celebratory lunch for 25 friends and 4 well behaved dogs. It was easy to plan the menu choices and availability by email and I just provided 90% of the menu choices 2 days in advance. On the day car parking was easy and friends travelling by train or staying overnight in Welshpool were able to stroll up through the town to The Raven Inn. Pre-lunch drinks in the bar satisfied every palate with tasty fresh coffee, a range of Real Ales, wines and soft drinks. Plenty of room to stand, sit and chat, a real fire log-burner and dog biscuits on the bar. With 25 of us we had a reserved dining area in the old part of the building and shortly after I had seated everyone, the starters began to be brought to the tables. Eight different starters satisfied the diners with their engaging presentation and satisfying taste. Then the main courses arrived with the personalise steaks, sausages relished by our Swiss friends, Braised Faggots from the butchers in Welshpool, fish and curries. Particular praise was from the lucky diners who had chosen the pan-fried duck breast, what large ducks they must have been! With the bar handy on two side it was easy to keep hydrated and help wash down the wonderful food. The finale was the appearance of the desserts, brilliant like finely costumed dancers with the Amaretto Creme Brulee and the Dacqouise looking as spectacular as they tasted. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we really felt carefree and cared for. Congratulations to all the front of house staff and the wizards in the kitchen who were the creative powerhouse. The dogs particularly enjoyed the walk along the river bank that ran from the Raven bridge upstream through the fields across from the railway.

Food was absolutely appalling.Prawn cocktail was served in a glass, sauce on top so not mixed up with the prawns and all the lettuce was at the bottom. Why not put it in a bowl?? Roast duck dinner was a disgrace.Spring greens we're bitter and tough, the apparent carrots were burnt.I think maybe the manager should start tasting the food before it comes out of the kitchen because I wouldn't serve my dogs carrots like that.Roast potatoes were frozen. Not worth the money.

My friend and I had an evening meal on Saturday 2nd December 2023. We were seated to our table immediately by a lovely young lady and were given menus. We ordered drinks whilst we waited for our food and when the meals arrived we were extremely pleased at the timing which was perfect the excellent meal presentation and the taste. Linda the manager has created a welcoming ambiance superb food and a perfect location to spend your time here. Well done and many thanks.
