Good food but long waits

We eat at Westy's each year after visiting the St Jude Marathon expo. This weekend's experience was about like the others. We waited about 30 minutes to place our order, another 30+ minutes for our appetizers (queso and chips), and another 30 minutes for our food. The food is always excellent. Just be prepared to wait. We saw at least a half dozen people leave after being there an hour. We got to the restaurant around 7 p.m. and didn't get our food until after 8:30. We weren't in a hurry to go anywhere, but that's getting pretty late to eat supper before a big race.

I ordered for delivery macaroni and cheese and the tamales with chili con carne that didn’t come with bacon. The mac n cheese was probably the worst I’ve ever had in my life. Cheap dollar tree brand probably would have been better. Absolutely no flavor, and pasta undercooked. The tamales were much much better than anything I expected. Without a doubt the best I’ve had in years.

Great food at a reasonable price - with direct delivery

We ordered for delivery to our hotel as we were tired from a day of touring and were not confident walking around Memphis at night. The delivery was earlier than quoted, with a friendly driver, and the food was excellent. We particularly liked our fudge cake for dessert (though disappointed that the key lime pie was out of stock). Highly recommended for the tired traveller - and no need to use a delivery service as you can order and they deliver direct.

Really gone downhill

Really gone downhill. Health inspector might want to visit. When we first came here a year or two ago, we loved it and gave it 4-5 stars. Much has changed, though I don’t know why. Our last visit ten months ago - restaurant was crowded, food was so-so at best, service was awful, and wait time was more than an hour for any food. We were told that it was because a cook stormed out and quit. Well, that might say something. Flash forward to this month, hoping last visit was an anomaly. Restaurant was nearly empty. Food took about an hour still and was extremely bland. Of course, it didn’t help that napkin wrapping one set of utensils had several spots of blood on it. Seriously! Should have just left then. Restroom is a pit. Server told us food was nearly ready but didn’t come out for another twenty minutes. Bacon was burnt. Rice was undercooked. Then, I check reviews and read about rats. We didn’t see any but at this point, I wasn’t trying to see any. Just give me my food so I can choke it down and leave, hoping I don’t get sick later. The place has a dive bar feel anyway but was a cool, trendy eatery too. Now, unless you are there for a beer and bring your own mug, go elsewhere. Nothing about this place remotely suggests they care about their patrons and the food, service, and sanitation would be enough for me to eat anywhere else. Be warned if you go.

Disappointing in very way

which do you want first, the good or the bad? The good, my fries were hot and crispy and I liked the toasted buns. End of list. The bad: neither the fries or tots were salted, hamburgers were greasy (not guilty pleasure greasy, but nasty squeeze our burgers in napkins greasy), gumbo basically just tasted like celery, waitress didn’t feel like she had to write our order down and got it wrong, then forgot to not charge us for the correct burger. They’re really stingy with the condiments. Stuffed burgers barely had anything in them and were flavorless. And their “world famous” hot fudge dessert? It’s a brownie. Never returning

Food and service not good. Bad first impression!!

I knew we should have left when it took our server Jacquelyn 25 minutes to come to our table to greet us and take our drink order. Jacquelyn did not come back to our table to see if we needed refills or anything until she finally brought our food out. We all had hamburgers, which were subpar,. The bun was so dry, it was hard to swallow a bite of the burger without taking a drink to wash it down. Jacquelyn came back and dropped our check off at the table and didn’t even ask if we needed anything. Of course we needed more drinks to wash down the burgers. 15 minutes after she took our credit card, she finally brought it back to our table and said “the credit card machine is down that’s why it took so long.” and walked away. We checked our account and it had been charged, so after waiting, we left to catch our Uber. The owner and Jacquelyn came out to find us and asked us to come back in to rerun our credit card even though it had already been charged. Our Uber driver was generous enough to wait while they finally got the credit card “to go through.” We have been in Memphis for several days. By far this is the WORST restaurant we have experienced. The service and food were NOT worth the money!!

We ordered food based on a recommendation from the front desk at our hotel, and it was terrible. I ordered the shrimp Alfredo and it had no flavor and the sauce was watered down. The mushrooms that were in it tasted funny. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Good luck at takeout

So I have not eaten there in a while but my wife ate there a couple weeks ago and had a BLT. I used to love their rice dishes . I ordered a number 11 my wife ordered a 15 they put my cheese and bacon on my wife’s number 15 which she doesn’t like cheese And bacon so I called to see what they could do. They wanted me to bring the food back but I already had a glass of wine and I couldn’t do that. I told the waitress I wanted to seven dollar credit she said they couldn’t do that they wanted to refund the whole amount of money for my number 11. . And they said the special manager had to call although Jake shore was there who owns the place? I have known the man for a long time, but he doesn’t really know me. I used to eat there when I worked downtown all the time they gave me about 1/4 to 1/3 of the portion I used to get when I ate there Along time ago, debra.the special manager called me and did say they would give me a refund and I told her not to worry about it that I would take care of it on social media and I would call American Express and complain. Also, I had a hard day at the office and just wanted some good food that I had eaten a long time ago this did not happen. I should’ve gone to the rendezvous because they always give me 100% and that was my first choice for supper but me and my wife change that. I am extremely disappointed and would give them a zero if I could. at first they want to get to give me a credit, but I ain’t eaten there again, So what good would a Credit do me if I’m never gonna eat there again

A really great find a short walk from the Crowne Plaza Hotel

We were staying at the Crowne Plaza hotel and usually walked along 2nd Street towards the City Centre. One morning we decided to have a walk in the opposite direction and under the I40 when we discovered Westys just off Main Street. It is difficult to judge from the outside but once inside the staff and customers were warm and friendly. The bar tender was extremely friendly and talkative and made us feel at ease. We ordered drinks and snacks which were very good and fairly reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit here if you are in the area.

Just a Regular Restaurant

This is an okay restaurant. This is my third visit here. I visited on December 28, 2023. My server was Lonna. She was nice. I think a little overwhelmed by working by herself. The food was ok. They only gave me a few tater tots with my burger. They should have given me as much tater tots as they give fries. But after adding condiments to my burger, it was good. My son enjoyed his food as well. But I do not feel the burger and tots are worth $14. I understand everyone wants to say inflation... but all business have taken inflation to a whole other level by being ridiculously expensive. Do you know how many burgers, fries and tater tots I could have if I bought it and made it at home? Maybe a week's worth for the same price. My son had a basic cheeseburger ($11.79) and I had the Helluva burger ($13.29) and I had to put it together on my own. I cannot say that I do not recommend this place, but I will not say that I do either.

THEY HAVE RATS!!

THEY HAVE RATS!! I had already ordered my food to go and paid but hadn’t left yet when a huge rat ran all the way from the back to the front of the restaurant! It went under the seat of a booth and someone was sitting on the other side of the seating. We yelled for them to come over and they didn’t seem surprised at all. The lady explained they’re by the waterfront and the building is old so they get them all the time. — Like it was no big deal to have a huge a$$ rat in a restaurant! They didn’t even tell the couple sitting in the connected booth that they may want to move. I’m appalled and disgusted.

Intimidating atmosphere with my substitute Philly steak

Average food but so intimidating. Tip added to the bill and when I said I didn’t think the waitress deserved it was subjected to a lot of intimidation. They claimed it was on the menu, which it wasn’t and the check which I only received when I requested to pay it. It only applies to after 10:30pm orders. Was chased down the road which is so unprofessional, especially for $6. America is a very expensive place to visit these days and places like this don’t help.

We Liked it so Much we Went Back the Next Night

We dined here two nights in a row and enjoyed every minute of the Fish and Shrimp and Chicken Dumplings and Gumbo and Fries and Green Tomatoes BLT Sandwich and Fried Okra etc etc. Good friendly servers and a real diner type atmosphere. There must be a hundred items on the menu. We have no idea how they do that in such a small place.

It took forever to get carryout. The burger was LAME. It was dry and thin on white bread with the crust cut off. The onion rings were black in color and mushy. Even the pickle spear was pathetic and soft. Save your money, and your time.

Great meal on July 4!

Great meal on July 4! We were passing through Memphis on July 4 and didn’t want fast food. Since it was a holiday, many places were closed but Westys was just a short distance from our Airbnb. We had great service and delicious food. There was a great staff and we appreciated them being open for us travelers. We had a delicious okra app and 2 of us had catfish baskets that were wonderful. Someone else had ribs and the last had a rice dish. We were all stuffed.. couldn’t make room for some delicious looking hot fudge pie.
