I stopped into The BBQ Shop in Memphis for lunch to try some legendary local bbq. I was not disappointed! I ordered the half dry rub ribs and half wet ribs. While the dry ribs were excellent, the wet ribs with the signature bbq sauce was on another level. They was delicious and meaty. The sauce was totally unique and unlike anything I’ve had before. I had to purchase a bottle to take with me. The sides I ordered (cole slaw, baked beans, and Texas toast) were delicious as well. And not to be forgotten, they serve southern sweet tea! This was worth the trip into Memphis!

We traveled to Memphis to check out the BBQ scene and the culture. After watching some youtube videos about the best Memphis bbq spots, I was intrigued by the BBQ spaghetti and the half and half ribs. That's what I ordered and I was not disappointed! There are some bbq spaghetti imitators in town. Dont be fooled. The flying pigs bbq sauce with the smoked pork shoulder garnish on the spaghetti was on point! Truely original. The ribs were delicious and borderline fall off the bone! Beans solid and coleslaw banging! I recommend getting what I got and be sure to buy a few bottles of their original sauce on the way out. 6 out of 5!

We overheard a employee at the Sun Studios recommend this place so gave it a try. We ordered the sampler platter so we could taste everything. The BBQ flavoring was very unique compared to all the other BBQ we tasted in Memphis! It was my favorite for sure.

I traveled from NM. The dry rub ribs were a bucket list item for me but so poor in quality I will need a redo of “Memphis BBQ” at another establishment. To be specific the ribs were precooked, served barely warm and covered in a seasoning salt that just fell off of them. This isn’t what dry rub is about - I’ve cooked better myself! The coleslaw was tired and uninspiring. The staff was unfriendly, the meal both overrated & overpriced. I left very disappointed thinking the BBQ Shop has coasted on their reputation too long. The rat traps along the sidewalk were also very disturbing.

Save your money and buy something better. This place is overpriced and is rude. Our order was missing items. The order was placed through Grubhub. When called concerning missing items the manager working on 7/25 proceeded to interrogate and berate our employee who called as if she lied. Then they asked us to come pick up the missing items. No thank you. This was an order for over $200 and intended to treat a guest which had never had Memphis BBQ. Too bad this business is run in such a way. Central BBQ, Tops or Corky's are better anyways.

Arrived on friday about 530 for an early dinner. Staff was not friendly. Only couple in the place and it took 10 minutes to be acknowledged. We were given menus and the prices were a little high but not out of range but they really are about the money not the food. A supplement sheet showed due to beef shortage???? They increased the prices by 30% until further notice. If you want your bbq sliced instead of chopped it cost an extra 25 cent on plates $1 per lb on take out. The food wasn't good the pork had been warmed at least once probably more. Dry and tasteless.. the sides sucked poor flavor and tasted like straight from can. While I will admit to being a bit of a bbq snob this bbq was pitiful it is an insult to memphis. With so many great bbq places in Memphis dont waste your money on this dad excuse for food.

This was my first destination, straight from the airport, my first time in Memphis. The first thing I noticed was how slow the service was. Perhaps they were understaffed, but it would have been nice if someone had at least acknowedged that they saw me and asked me to wait. There was no sign so I waited awkwardly wondering if the culture there was that I should seat myself. Eventually Erick came by to seat me, and he wa very friendly. However my waitress was actually Loraine, an older lady with a scowel who looked like she hated being there. To be fair she wasn't rude to me personally, but everything about her demenaor from her tone to lack of attentiveness just gave me the vibe that she didn't want to be there and she didn't want me to be there either. It was probably for the best that she only attended to me three times, once when she took my order, again when she brought the food and promptly left, and lastly to collect the check- when I finally got offered my first refill. Erick, on the other hand, even though he wasn't my waiter, was exceptionally welcoming and friendly. He alone gave me hope that the rest of my trip wouldn't be a disaster. As for the food itself, I ordered the ribs, half wet half dry, and the BBQ spaghetti. The noodles were a bit soggy but it was interesting to try, if that's what they were known for. The ribs were decent, but a bit dry, and nothing to write home about. Speaking for the food itself, if I were a local, I might stop by on occasion, but certainly nothing I would brag to out-of-town friends about

This barbecue was definitely in the top tier of all barbecue I’ve tried. The ribs were fantastically spiced, perfectly cooked and full of thick meat. The pulled pork was smoky and moist. Their medium sauce was some of the best I’ve tried. The baked beans and coke slaw were great sides too. The prices are on the high side but the portions are huge. I could have easily made two meals out of the meat. If you eat in, they have a cool old bar and building. Family friendly. Friendly service. Plenty of parking and a separate entrance in back.

The BBQ Shop was excellent. We tried a little bit of everything and it was some of the best ribs we’ve eaten both dry and glazed. Spaghetti had a sweet taste to it and was surprisingly good because I’m not a spaghetti fan. The chopped was actually really good too. Coleslaw had a pickle taste that was good and interesting. The sweet tea had a interesting black tea type flavor. Overall it was excellent. Our waiter did a great job and we really enjoyed the conversation we had with the owner. Thanks to our waiter Robert for excellent service and thanks to the owner Eric for great conversation and excellent BBQ.

Great food & great service! As soon as we got in the Uber and told the driver where we were headed, we knew we made the right choice by his reaction alone. I ordered the rib meal and got them both dry and wet. The dry was my favorite. The beans, toast, & slaw side dishes were to die for & I washed it down with the sweetest tea. Our waiter was great. If I’m ever in Memphis again, I’ll be visiting the barbecue shop for sure!

A local resident recommended this place and we were pleasantly surprised at the food and service. Wet ad dry bbq as well as vegetarian options. Interesting story about the bar. Parking and entrance in the rear.

Really was not a fan of this place. Rude waitress started out the experience on a bad note. The bbq sauce they use was really really bad. I’m a Memphis native and this was the worst I’ve ever had. The ribs were dry and the chopped brisket was flavorless. Won’t be back.

I really wanted to love this place! The food was outstanding! However our wait person was the literally the worst I have ever encountered. It took 15 minutes for him to ever greet us for the first time. He got half the drink orders wrong. I don’t think he put our order in. After 30 more minutes with no food I asked the manager if he could check. Ten minutes later 1 of 4 meals came out then two more and then the last. Only 1 of the 4 meals were correct. We just ate it because we would have died of old age to get round two. The real problem I have is with management. He knew we were having problems but did nothing to offer our server help. I believe our serve may have been special needs, but they just threw him out with no help or support. I actually felt bad that he had no one helping him. If you ever order from here I would recommend take out only.

We call ourselves foodies and take pride on finding a good meal. A friend recommended the BBQ Shop so we tried it. Ribs were perfect. Beans were awesome and the Cole slaw was the best in the industry. In today’s time where good workers are hard to find due to covid and extra federal funding, the service was spot on. Don’t believe negative reviews! Some people are just winey. Go and have the ribs or brisket and a local brew.
