Quiet with no atmosphere

Visited the restaurant on a Friday night and after calling to make a booking it seemed they were fairly busy so glad we had called ahead. We arrived at the restaurant at 7pm to find not one table occupied. We weren’t actually sure if they were open. If we hadn’t been with friends visiting the area we would have gone else where. No music and no atmosphere what so ever. We decided to give it a chance after being welcomed by a member of staff. He basically said sit wherever you fancy! After questioning why there was no music they did very kindly put some on. We had a look over the menu and ordered some drinks. The chef actually came out the kitchen to speak to us and asked how we liked our curries which I thought was a nice touch. We had poppadum and mixed tray to start followed by mixed pakora. All very nice and freshly cooked to order. Our mains were delicious, we had two lamb and two chicken dishes and cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice. Nan bread and rice were lovely too. Only disappointment was that they came served in normal bowls which dont retain the heat. Overall the food was nice and the service was okay so I’d definitely go back if it was a bit busier with more atmosphere. It would also be nice to see the waiting staff in uniform instead of combat trousers and hoodies. Not the best first impression on waiting tables. Hopefully business picks ups nearer Christmas and we can visit again.

Excellent Food and Service

Due to lockdown rules we ordered a takeaway meal which was delivered within an hour. Popppdoms, Mixed Veg Pakora Combo, Chicken Tikka Korahi, Sag Aloo and Chapati. Well presented and very tasty. Excellent all round experience.

Fabulous Fresh Food

We ordered a carry out meal for my special birthday yesterday. We ordered it for 18.30 and it was just ready when my husband went to collect it. The meal was absolutely delicious. We noted that there was no colouring in the pilau rice which was good to see. Everything ordered was outstandingly good! Well done Bengal! Will definately be ordering more carry out meals! Can't wait until lockdown ends when we can get back to visiting the restaurant again.

Night out with friends

Went to this restaurant a year ago , food was good and staff attentive…. Went there last night with friends, sat at the table for 20mins before we realised that we hadn’t even been offered a drink? I got up went to the bar and said “any chance of some drinks? “ to which the waiter came up and took our order…. The couple behind us walked out as they hadn’t been offered a drink or anything and they’d been there 30mins ? .., we ordered starters they didn’t come up all together and were wrong …. The main meal my partner ordered was chicken in a watery sauce , very tasteless…..half way through the meal the waiter came up to the table asked us if we wanted the bill ? 🙄 The table next to us had dirty dishes on which must of been there a good half hour… the toilets had no paper towels and no hand drier ? The kitchen didn’t look very clean ether …. I mentioned to the owner the couple behind us had walked out he just answered I know I can’t do anything about it ? I’ve got no staff? Why would you open a restaurant with no staff? 🙄😤🤬

Still great food

Still great food but the service fell short. No welcome, something about the tandor when ordering a seekh kebab so I ordered Onion Bhaji and a seekh kebab came. No enquiry if the food was okay whilst I was eating it. I went to pay and no interest if I had enjoyed my meal, the guy had earphones in his ears as he gave me the bill and I settled and left. Front of house is key to starting the overall experience and this was lacking by just a feeling of total disinterest. I have been many times throughout lockdown and whilst the food is always excellent a warm welcome adds to the whole experience.

Wonderful flavored dishes

When visiting the UK we always look for an Indian restaurant for a visit or take away. We enjoyed our 'the bengal' take away meal very much. Wonderful quality Indian food with beautiful flavors. The maldobi amla is nice sweet and nutty flavored and the korahi medium hot was quite spicy but still very good to eat with a great lemon and cashew rice.

Absolutely the Best

We started off with a takeaway from the Bengal & we were very impressed by the flavours & the amount of food. So we booked a table & the restaurant was absolutely pristine, the food was so delicious. We had a conversation with the owner & we were very impressed by his enthusiasm for his restaurant & the use of seasonally available products,not something you'd expect in Indian cooking but it most definitely works. Never be afraid to try something new. We loved the food here it was absolutely delicious.

Superb food, large portions

We were staying close by and found this restaurant on the internet. Ordered a takeaway and we were not disappointed. Food was delicious and there was plenty of it! Would definitely use again

Visited here last night, we were quickly offered a table. The Waitress arrived to take our drinks order, one of us requested a cup of tea, after checking with her colleague the waitress advised us they did not serve tea at that time, (7pm)what restaurant cannot provide a cup of boliing water and a tea bag?...The Waiter who then came to take our order was too busy looking out the window and door to correctly write our order down, half way through it he mumbled something and left, we assumed his pen had ran out otherwise why would he have left mid order,? he returned around 10 mins later to complete our order, once more he was too preoccupied, he read our order back to us and it was all wrong, once we had corrected him off he went, never making eye contact with any of us! Our meal took an age to arrive, when it did, the waitress was unsure which curry was which, (there were only 4 of us, 2 having the same curry!) she left our table with the food to check with the kitchen which curry was which., by the time she arrived back our food was only warm, certainly not hot, as we had waited so long by this point we accepted the food. Surprisingly after the bad start, the food tasted very nice, it would have been so much better however had it been at the correct temperature. With the meal, we asked for a jug of water, this took 10 minutes to arrive, half a jug of luke warm water was put down on the table. Finally our table was cleared and we requested our bill. We waited 15 minutes , possibly more for this to arrive, as our table had been reset, we were standing in the restaurant all this time. We were very, very disappointed with the whole experience. When I was finally able to pay, I advised our waiter how unhappy I was with the service and did receive an apology. We all make allowances for a busy restaurant but this one was not by any means, There were only 3 other tables that were occupied. Unfortunately the whole experience left us all feeling the same, we will not be back.

Pleasant food

We had a some pleasant dishes. The dupiazza had an odd sticky texture to it but tasted good. The star was probably the nan bread. The restaurant was less than half full but apparently too busy to make hot drinks. I wondered if the waiter was also the chef was also the manager. Card machine broken. Cash only.
