We enjoyed the seafood platter that had the best scallops and mussels I have ever had. No joke! Book in advance to make sure they have the seafood available for you.

The food was good. You could see and taste that somebody cooked it. I had the burger, fish'n'chips and something else I forgot. They were what you'd expect and no need to give an arm and leg. Seafood needs to be ordered 24 hours in advance. Looked good.

We were staying in a local B&B and needed an evening meal. Yan's Kitchen was closed and the menu prices at the Port Charlotte Hotel were very high. We were delighted to find this pub with a very friendly welcome, low priced rooms (wished we had known this before) and excellent moderately priced food. The service was good and they... More

The evening meals were off the menu and the quantity and quality were great Service was quick and you could see the pride that was put into the meals. Breakfast was to order and you picked the time and the food was of equal high standard as the evening meals Ian and his staff do the name of Islay proud,... More

Just stop here if you want a very good evening diner! Small lounge with just a couple of tables. So make reservations if you definitly want to eat in here. We were with a couple of friends. 2 of us took the beef burger from the menu and it was delicious. 2 of us shared a seafood platter (order 24h... More

Really busy nearly every night so booking is a must. Tables are very cramped together and the seafood is definately the highlight although the rest of the menu is pretty standard pub grub. The place could really do with a makeover but maybe that would change the whole experience! Its very old fashioned, a bit dingy but we all enjoyed... More

Had a great family meal here, sea food was fab and the company throughout the restaurant was lovely. Very very tight squeeze inside and could do with a lick of paint particularly outside but we had a lovely night here.

We spent a couple of nights here as part of our holiday touring the Scottish islands. The hotel is small and retro in decoration -it could really benefit from a make over but we enjoyed its laid back atmosphere . If you're after somewhere fancy then try somewhere else.! The staff are attentive and helpful and also really entertaining! The... More

I had heard tell of the Lochindaal’s famous seafood platter and it didn’t disappoint. Yes it is pricey but as a special treat it is worth it. The scallops were my favourites but there was stiff competition from the sweet lobster tails. The bucket of chips were an addition too far but these were enjoyed by those in our arty... More

Ate here twice during our stay on the island. I ordered a seafood platter on one day which they were happy to modify as I was the only seafood eater and the usual ones are to share. The scallops were the largest I have ever had and the entire meal was memorable. The people who work there are great and... More

Description
The Lochindaal Hotel in Port Charlotte is one of Islay's most traditional hotels. It is a family run establishment, having been in the MacLellan family for well over 100 years. Iain and Katie and their 5 children are the latest generation of MacLellans to have the privilege of running this lovely old pub. Over the years the pub has played host to many characters; friendly locals, holidaying visitors and many a famous face. They all leave with a tale to tell about an evening at 'The Lochindaal'. The hotel also boasts an impressive collection of rare and unusual Islay and other malt whiskies which can be viewed from both bars. In the hotel during the colder months there are roaring peat and log fires and local musicians regularly entertain the guests with traditional Scottish music, attracting a merry audience. The hotel has developed a great reputation for it's Seafood dinners and there are numerous excellent Trip Advisor reviews praising the freshness and the exceptional quality of the local seafood supplied by our great island fisherman who battle all weathers to get the seafood straight to the table that day. 24 Hours notice is required for the Seafood Platters. Iain, the owner (also head chef) works very hard to ensure that all of his guests are well cared for and happy. The Lochindaal is noted for it's friendliness and humour, our staff are welcoming and accommodating. The hotel consists of two bars; the public bar has a pool table, dart board and juke box, the lounge bar has a pleasant dining area with tables and seating for up to 24 guests, it is comfortable and cosy with an open fire - this is where most meals are served. Fresh bean to cup coffee is served all day in both bars. There is a restaurant situated at the rear of the hotel, this can accommodate larger parties for evening dining, birthdays etc. There is also a bar in this room. Pre-booking is required for the use of this room and arrangements can be made to staff the bar. There is free WiFi available to all guests whether they be in for a quick drink, indulging in a Seafood Platter or staying overnight, please ask the bar staff for the WiFi Key code.
