A visit to Victor Hugo's House is well worth the effort as it has a fascinating history and interior plus you also learn a lot about the author himself and his impressive range of talents.

Gives one a sense of what Victor Hugo was like and quite amazing. A tour guide had suggested reading "toilers of the Sea" by VH. (It's free on Kindle.) Set in Guernsey, it's pretty wordy and easy to see why it's NOT a best seller. The house is owned by France, and they make an awful lot of (unnecessary)busywork about... More

We overheard someone else talking about the museum, so decided to go. The house where Victor Hugo stayed during his exile and is one of the most interesting museums I have visited (similar vein to the Russell Coates Museum in Bournemouth). It's definitely worth a visit l wouldn't want to spoilt things by saying too much.

Such an unusually decorated house. Every room different and a surprise. Excellent guide and small tour sizes. Lovely garden too, which is free even without the tour. The tour takes about an hour with plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Well worth the £8. House has several flights of stairs, so you need to be reasonably mobile. The house is... More

We arrived at the last minute and managed to get a cancellation. The guided tour was excellent and gave an insight into Victor Hugo's eccentric life style. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

We visited the house on a Sunday. Visits are by timed entry and while you wait, there is a beautiful garden to sit in with wonderful views. Not knowing much about Victor Hugo, we were very open minded and the enthusiasm of the young guide was clear to see from the outset. the house is absolutely fascinating and you quickly... More

Having read some good reviews I wanted to visit this house so tried twice to go. The first time, due to getting lost on the way, we arrived at approximately 4.15pm only to find it shut, which, coming from the mainland, was a bit surprising to us as most tourist attractions open until at least 5pm especially in peak season.... I really did not want to go to see a house turned into a museum, but my wife really wanted to see it, so I went along. Boy, was I happy I did. You are guided through the home by a docent who related the history of the house but also of Victor Hugo, his family and the times surrounding... More

The female tour guide was excellent and a credit to the service. We had a great couple of hours learning about Victor Hugo's life and his experience and motivations. The house is stunning and in a beautiful location.
