Upon reading the wonderful TripAdvisor reviews, we decided to try the dinner at this Japanese/ Korean restaurant. We didn't make a reservation. SoBaya is located on the ground floor of a mixed residential/commercial townhouse. The second and third floors appear to be residential units. Inside, the seating area has 10 tables that accommodate two (2) people each. This means the... More

I wish wish wish I could give Sobaya six stars. They deserve it. This tiny restaurant off 38th ave is spotless... the owners and staff make you feel like part of the family... and the food is simply outstanding. My single favorite dish on the entire Strand is their bibimbap pictured here.

We ate here for dinner and I was pleased with my service and the taste of the food. The dining area was small but they were able to accommodate all the parties that dined there that night. The restaurant appeared to be clean and they had a nice variety of dishes to choose from. I would definitely eat here again.

If you want something that is not part of the usual mechanised wasteful over-sized food in this part of the world, come here. It's small, eccentrically badly decorated, and absurdly over-lit (Memo to owners: Think about some subtle lighting! Then get some!). But the food is served in more or less sane quantities, and suggests that someone interested in cooking... More

Very close to a traditional Japanese bistro with a few Korean dishes! Great selection of dishes and especially noodle soups (ramen)! You have to try it! We always come back!

My wife and I stopped by for lunch and were delighted to find three kinds of ramen. I had pork and she had shrimp and both were very good, large, and delivered piping hot. Both were great. We also examined our neighbor's bento boxes. Those are large, varied, and by all reports, very good.

Fresh, creative menu, generous portions. Small family business with a local following. A fun place to experiment with unique, traditional offerings.

Yes, sushi is not the only food eaten in Japan! There are plenty of restaurants that serve sushi along the Grand Strand but SoBaya is very different in that its offerings are uniquely Japanese or Korean. If you like noodle dishes as I do, this is the place to eat at. It is very small so a reservation is recommended.... More

Went there for lunch. Very small place, but is well maintained. The salmon was very good. Try the spring rolls. My wife got the pad Thai and she said it was really good.
