This locally owned restaurant has a mix of French and southern cuisine. I had fresh caught Mahi with a medley of veggies. It was wonderful! My husband ( a meat and potatoes guy) actually enjoyed the collard greens. The shrimp and French fries were fantastic....More

My girlfriend and I sat at the bar and enjoyed the casual atmosphere. The steak tartar was so delicious we ordered a second portion. Coq au vin was fantastic and a generous portion. Wonderful experience.

The main dining room is a little noisy, but I am in my 70s and my hearing is not what it once was. Definitely make reservations although sitting at the back side of the bar is just fine if you forgot to make a reservation....More

My wife and I ordered 2 appetizers to share. The fried green tomatoes were terrific but the fried chicken livers were too breaded and over powered the flavor. We only ate a bit and left the rest. No sooner than the waitress removed the dish...More

Description
Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. "With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine," he says. "Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents - along with others from around Charleston - will appreciate what we have to offer." Fat Hen's main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, root vegetables & mushrooms. Fat Hen's Short Rib, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth.
