Scott was awesome serving us today. He was obviously very busy, but he kept on top of everything and had a great attitude. The food was amazing!!! The Shrimp and Grits was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We had Sunday brunch here and everyone was so pleased. I had the cream broulee French toast-it was outstanding! I can't wait to go again!! The Bloody Marys are very good, the prices are reasonable and the servings are large.

I have eaten at the Fat Hen several times a never have been disappointed. The food is always excellently prepared and they are proud that many of the ingredients are local. If you are visiting the area the Fat Hen is a must. Reservations are suggested.

Serendipity fuels adventure! A water main break foiled our dinner plans at (48) Wine Bar, BUT it led us to Fat Hen, the French Low Country bistro in Johns Island run by CIA graduate and former Baltimore resident, Chef Fred Neuville. What an awesome find! Dinner al fresco by the outdoor heaters prompted a laid-back, casual vibe, fueled by hearty... More

Thanks for your review! So glad you were led to us, even though the water main break is quite unfortunate. Come back and see us again soon! More

We have been a number of times thru the years and I have to say it is if they are on a slow and steady decline. Still some good stuff but not the "wow" it originally was. Used to be start-to-finish it was a winner. Lately more hit and miss. This was a family holiday dinner. We made our reservation... More

This is the first time we ate dinner at the Fat Hen. We usually go there for brunch and it is always good, so we thought we would try it out for dinner. I had the grilled chicken and veggies. It was delicious! My husband had the crab cakes, blue cheese coleslaw and bacon cheese grits. Both of our meals... More

Staying on Kiawah island and looking to eat great food without crazy prices and too upscale of an atmosphere led us to try this place. There was a long wait so we just sat at the bar to eat and we didn't have to wait at all. I got the coq a vin, which is something I have always wanted... More

This restaurant was recommended by a friend whom we were staying with on John's Island. I love French. The escargot was wonderful and my husband had the coq au vin which is one of his favorite French dishes. Highly recommended.

Description
Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. "With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine," he says. "Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents - along with others from around Charleston - will appreciate what we have to offer." Fat Hen's main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, root vegetables & mushrooms. Fat Hen's Short Rib, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth.
