Good food, nice ambiance. View of the river and riverwalk. Traditional South Carolina menu; lots of fish and fish platters. Food is not trendy, but well done, and we've always had good service.

Shrimp and grits and the oysters were great. The bread pudding with a whisky sauce was excellent. There is a good view of the river walk, river and docked boats.

Very good lunch. Everyone was extremely happy with their meals and everyone had clean plates. Yellow grits were good and service was top notch.

Four of us ate there last night. Four meals and wine cost $140. Not super cheap but a good meal. We had Grouper, Shrimp and Scallops and other stuff including sauté pound cake and a bottle of California wine. Well recommended

We tried to sit in the inclosed sitting area overlooking the harbor, but the fans and AC unit made it too chilly for us; perhaps it would be fine for others. We found better seats just inside and could still see the harbor through the...More

When we were there in November, my husband had the fish sandwich and he asked the waitress what kind of fish they used and she told him it was flounder. He said it was delicious!!

The River Room has served delectable coastal-influenced fare to a tremendous following of loyal patrons since 1984.Moderately-priced lunch items include our World Famous Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp Creole and Pecan Chicken Salad served with apples and grapes. The dinner menu features fresh, grilled fish such as Carolina grouper, yellow-fin tuna and Atlantic salmon. Chef specialties include Herb-crusted Grouper, McClellanville Crab Cakes and Twin Filets of Beef with Blue Cheese ButterThe River Room is located in the historic J.B. Steel Building. In 1888 when the J.B. Steele Building opened, it housed two businesses known as the Steele-Moses stores. Downstairs, customers inspected dry goods and groceries displayed on massive hardwood counters, and upstairs they could be fitted for custom-made hats.Today, the building’s history is evident throughout and is enhanced with tasteful nostalgic décor. The dining room extends 50 feet into the Sampit River; its panoramic windows offer expansive harbor views. Nautical and turn-of-the-century antiques are on display, and an intimate bar showcases the restaurant’s wine collection.Children will surely make a beeline for the giant reef aquarium filled with colorful sea life.
