We chose to go to Hall’s during restaurant week as trying to get a reservation at a time that we would like to dine is very difficult! We took an early reservation at 5 PM and even though we decided to go during COVID, good managed restaurants prepare to make things right! We are and we’re greeted warmly by at least three hostess/ manager’s who were wearing masks! However, the bar was filled and no social distancing and some people without masks. We were taken to our table upstairs and takes were spaced out. Again, warmly greeted and our waiter introduced himself to us. Table was watered first and we were asked if we wanted a menu or use our phones to barcode scan. Waiter went over the menu in detail and asked for a drink order. iced tea was in order and one member of our party requested a nice Chardonnay from California. The waiter recommended one and it was ordered. However, the waiter neglected to mention the price, which either was an over-sight or a deliberate omission. Less than a half glass at a price of $20.00! We discussed the Restaurant Week promotion and all of us decided that since Hall’s is a “chop house”, steak, the 8 ounce filet mignon with choice of soup or salad along with an apple crisp desert was selected by all! The waiters do a great job of up-selling patrons for appetizers, additional sides and for $10.00 more you can get a different steak from the menu! Would like to have tried the Waygu steak which was listed at $29.00 an ounce!! Selected salad and a she crab soup! Our salads arrived, caesar for me and green salads for the others, and one she crab soup. Just enough and very good! The Tuscan bread was excellent and only some evo was needed with it. Restaurant started to fill up and some strayed from the restaurant week special.
Our steak arrived and was cooked perfectly! All three companions got their steak as they ordered. Compliments to the chef! I ordered some béarnaise sauce and it was very good (side was $3.00). We enjoyed our meal and the waiter arrived a few time to see if all was well. Rey impressed at how the waitstaff has been trained. Excellent customer service! We finished and our desert arrived shortly thereafter. It is apparent that the restaurant tries to turn tables possibly three times. We enjoyed our meal and received our checks. The price fix fare was $50.00 per person + extras! This is a restaurant lives up to its reputation as #1 in Charleston and is expensive if you indulge in appetizers, sides and libations!
I can now check off Hall’s from my bucket list and move on to another restaurant on my bucket list!

Absolutely a MUST! We went here tonight and it was so good I needed to share my thoughts. First off, I eat out a lot for work and pleasure and am harsh on those who don’t get it right, but this place was as good as St. Elmos in Indianapolis for those of you who have been there- the service was off the charts good only downer is it is very expensive, $300+ (not including tip) where there was only 2 glasses of wine poured for the 3 of us, the others drank soda. The Lamb chops my son had were fantastic and the steaks were cooked to perfection. The waitress insisted we cut into the middle of the filets to ensure they were cooked the way we requested, they were. Regardless, definitely worth it for a special occasion or if your looking for an off the charts experience.

We went to the Sunday Brunch based on recommendations of several of my neighbors for my Mom’s 80th Birthday.
My Mom couldn’t have been more pleased! The Champagne was unexpected as well as the cake they brought at the end of our meal.
My Mom personally approached the waiter as we left to thank him for such a wonderful experience.
I requested a quiet table, which we got and appreciated as the main dining area was very loud.
Though the food was good, we couldn’t taste the flavors called out in the Brioche French Toast. The coffee was unimpressive and lukewarm. We asked for hot coffee, but it was several minutes before it came and we had to request refills despite the waiter coming to our table throughout the meal.
The website said free valet parking for Sunday Brunch. They do not offer that anymore.
Despite these minor shortcomings, it was a great experience overall and we will be back!

My friends were very excited to being me here and it was unfortunately a rushed dining experience. We ordered a cocktail and appetizer and a salad and a bottle of wine to have with out meal. All came out at the same time. I was asked to sample wine prior to finishing my martini or anything else and was quite annoyed as we wanted it with the main meal to begin with. I asked a one point if they were going to slow it down because I wouldn't have ordered an appetizer had I known it was all coming together. They said oh yes! Then 5 minutes later we were rushed out main meal and sides with servers asking us to spoon our sides on our plate before I had even cut I to my steak.
At the end we were discussing restaurants in Tampa and I mentioned Berns and Flemmings to which the servers, who had never been to either, stated they felt they were just as good. As someone who has been to both many times for many different occasions I can confirm for you with confidence the experience was quite different and they are not the same. I would suggest Peninsula Grill in town if they are still open. I went there on a prior trip and it was lovely and comparable to the prior mentioned.

With nearby parking, Hall's is easy to find in downtown Charleston. The atmosphere is old-world classic with wood paneled dining rooms. They have music downstairs in the bar area which was quite loud. Thankfully, we were seated quickly in one of the upstairs dining rooms. A team approach to service was unique and very efficient. Our main server was very well informed as was the sommelier. They have a wine list of more than 300 wines as well as creative cocktails. We chose the bone in ribeye that was cut and served at the table along with sides that were served by team members, all very efficient. Our beef was cooked as we had ordered and artfully displayed. Side dishes were not very unique but tasty nonetheless. They have some standard desserts. All in all a great restaurant experience albeit a very expensive one.

Everything at Halls was excellent! From the greeting we received at the door to the minute we left, service was some of the best ever received at a fine dining establishment. The food selection was very good with our server explaining beef sourcing and different types of cuts of meats and varies dinner items as well. Everything was hot and perfectly cooked. I was so happy to have heard so many great things about Halls and everything lived up to its reputation.
We are going back Sunday for the Gospel Brunch which is difficult to get a reservation for. In the spring 6-8 weeks ahead is recommended to book seats for the restaurant.
We had She crab Soup, crab cake, sirloin, bone in filet and sides. So good!
They allow 1/2 orders of their sides so people can try a few different things. This is a very high end steak house so sides are al la cart. Worth every $$ and great restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. They are great with large parties of people as well. 5plus stars to Halls!

We have traveled 🧳 extensively across the country and around the world but have never had a dining experience to equal our recent visit to Hall’s. As with other five-star restaurants the food was exquisite, the setting was warm and attractive, and the menus was enticing. Unlike other such restaurants, however, the service was not just impeccable with overflow staff everywhere but served with a different attitude and atmosphere. The presentation was more than just southern charm. The presentation was more than abstaining from the stiff formality of other top scale restaurants. The family owners have selected staff that reflect their own gregarious and super-friendly personalities on display there every night. Have you not exited a Trader Joe’s marveling at the energetic, friendly young staffers who cannot help you enough. That is the feeling we had leaving Hall’s except the unbelievably fine food and wine made the experience truly memorable. Hall’s alone warrants a return trip to South Carolina. Don Quigley

My wife and I planned a New Years Eve getaway to Charleston, SC. When we were planning our trip approximately four months prior our hotel recommended Halls Chophouse as an excellent place to enjoy a romantic and festive New Year's Eve dinner. We were not disappointed. Our severs (Chris & Kayla) were warm, friendly, professional, and their menu offered all of the surf, turf, salads, and sides one would want at a top tier steakhouse. They had live music in the downstairs bar area, and a romantic expanse of tables upstairs. Many members of the staff wore sequin blazers and festive New Year's Eve hats and seemed to be having as much fun as the patrons. We highly recommend this spot for a satisfying meal and top notch restaurant experience.

Halls Chophouse had a lot to live up to but unfortunately did not deliver. Whilst the oysters & jumbo shrimp cocktail were tasty, the dry aged ribeye had fabulous flavour but requested medium rare was cooked medium with a whole band of gristle through it. The pork chop was in fact 2 smaller chops lacking flavour. The wine list is extensive, service was impeccable southern style the best part of the evening.

This was really an amazing culinary experience. Everything I ordered was truly exquisite. If in Charleston, book a table do not think about it. Service was very attentive and made some great suggestions for ordering. Live music was great and not so loud as to take away from an intimate dinner. Fantastic place.

We’ve visited Charleston for years and never made it to Halls until this trip. Well we have been missing a lot, we called the day before on a whim inquiring about availability and they accommodated us at 8:30. We had a great table upstairs, in a back room by the window.
We had done some research on the menu beforehand and knew what we wanted, but made a few modifications based on our wine choice with the help from the sommelier and our great waiter. With a fantastic Grenache for our wine we moved onto food. We went a bit overboard as it was our first time, we went with: Oysters Rockefeller, Halls Chopped, and the lump crab cocktail to start. For our entree we had the 24oz ribeye with the Gorgonzola sauce, mushrooms and mushroom risotto as sides.
I can’t even to explain how delicious everything was, appetizers were perfect, not to mention how our waiter split everything for my partner and I. Our steak was cooked to perfection and the half portion of sides our waiter told us about were the perfect amount. Halls sources and has a special agreement with Allen Brothers for its own specification of steak. We’ve long ordered Allen Brothers for holidays, special occasions and other times where you just want the best. Allen Brothers hasn’t disappointed all the times we’ve done home delivery and Halls special requirement didn’t disappoint either.
All In all one of the best parts was the service. Rob our waiter was fantastic, not only knowledgeable, but also personable. He guided us through the menu with ease and offered us insight that made our meal. His recommendation of half portions for size was great. As we were a couple and wanted to try a lot of sides the half portions recommendation allowed us to do that. He also made sure the flow to our meal felt relaxed as he spaced out our appetizers so we didn’t feel that everything came at once. We were the last table in Rob’s section and he happily chatted with us for 15 minutes despite other work he had to do.
Halls is a must when in Charleston. The food was top notch, the service outstanding and friendly. We’ll certainly be back.

Had to try the place out since the review raved.
Sat at the bar which was different but much more interactive with the bar man.
Had the new fashion which was good- a twist of the usual old fashion.
Had the she crab in a cup which was excellent and quite heavy. Had the green tomatoes with seafood and bacon which was also excellent.
Had the smaller fillet mignon medium rare and came perfect- pink inside and warm. The okra fries was good but too oily.
All in all an excellent meal.
It’s not busy at 4-5.45: might be early for most people but it’s the best time to get there as hear the crowds are large and the ambiance rather different during dinner hours.

The food is delicious. The service was wonderful. The bread pudding was out of this world. I have never had a bread pudding I ever wanted a second bite of and this was amazing. I went Saturday for lunch and the live music was lovely. For planning purposes if you are having more than one course you should allow yourself about 1 1/2 hours for service. Not that the service was slow, this just isn't a place that is rushing you out the door to turn the table for the next guest. The staff was very friendly towards children, but you should keep in mind that you may be there for a while so know if your children can sit for an extended lunch ( I'm looking at you Eloise and Nelson's mom).I do not have allergies, but the table next to us had a gluten allergy and there were plenty of options. All the wait staff was extremely friendly. I made a reservation so there was no wait. I would recommend going early for lunch or dinner if you want to avoid a larger crowd.

Our first visit. We were greeted by name by the owner before we announced ourselves. They honored our request for seating in a quiet area, an elegant room to the right of the entrance.
We were offered a complimentary glass of very good champagne (it was my birthday). We both had excellent she-crab soup. I ordered the 8-oz filet mignon, medium rare, which ranks with the best I’ve had in Charleston (23 years). My wife had a beautifully prepared and presented grouper, loved it. We both had decadent and luscious desserts.
Our server was Becky, a delightful young lady who knew and had tasted every dish we asked about. She also knew a good bit about the wines. The pace of our meal was slow and relaxed; Becky was attentive, but we were never hurried.
Recommend it? Of course. Return soon? As soon as possible.

Upon arrival, with reservations we were seated immediately and we sat in another area that had a bar and was very romantic and classy! We started off with Pineapple Martinis and they were fabulous...
The bread as the initial entree was perfect; After going back and forth on the amazing menu options; I chose the Flounder and it was the best I’d had in years and the seasoning and preparation was superb! My wife had the 8 OZ Filet and she said it was perfect; We chose as our sides, Parmesan Truffle Fries and Breaded Okra which were amazing, fresh and so different....
The staff and our servers (2) were courteous and informing! This was a top notch place and very much a class act! Highly recommend and will say this was a perfect and amazing meal, atmosphere and dinner.
The meat comes from the Midwest/Chicago from the (Allen Brothers), and on a final note the live band in the bar area was perfect....
