Very average Chinese food, but for the area it's one of the best and most reliable takeaway Chinese spots. The classics like egg rolls, lo mein, and chicken dishes are fine and are reasonably priced. My top choice for Downtown State College.

We had delivery food... very prompt driver, knowledgable on telephone when ordering.. Shrimp, chicken and vegetables were delicious. I ate our leftovers for breakfast.

If you go to the Uncle Chen's website, PSUSuckMyEggroll.com and you are a first time customer; you too can receive 10% off.
The food was delivered to our hotel room. We were given a time frame as to delivery and the delivery was right on schedule.
The dinners were hot and the vegetables fresh. Since we were able to make two meals from each dinner, Chicken with Broccoli and Beef with Broccoli, I believe we received more than ample servings.
While we were a first time customer, we definitely will order Uncle Chen's the next time we are in State College, PA.

Traveled 4 1/2 hours to State College, Pa to visit family. Stay at a local hotel for the weekend. The hotel had no dinner restaurant on site. So we decided to get take out delivery since we are not from the area. Got menus from the front desk, decided to order from Uncle Chen's although I am not a big Chinese food fan I don't mind shrimp fried rice. After deciding to get the shrimp fried rice because my mom wanted shrimp lomein didn't want to go through the trouble of order from multiple places. We order shrimp fried rice, shrimp lomein, six wings and two sodas totaling $35.75. The food prices was not bad however we was charged $1.75 per can soda. After that everything was down hill. When placing my order I asked for shrimp fried rice with nothing in it but shrimp onions and eice because I have food allergies to egg, some vegetables and fruit. Well we get our food and the rice to the shrimp fried rice is clear rice noodles which I am not use to I am use to the rice being fried on top of that it had eggs, and vegetables what I explained to the young lady on the phone that I could not have, also my moms chicken wings was not chicken wings they are drum sticks which was $6.00 for chicken wings. To sum everything up I call the restaurant back stressing my concerns only about my order that I can't eat due to allergies not even mentioning our other concerns to be told I will be waiting 40 more minutes for my order to be corrected by then the store would be closed. This is the worst experience that we have had since being on this vacation. I would absolutely NOT recommended Uncle Chen's to anyone. Worst food service ever. The best part of the experience was the delivery driver. He was very curtious and fast for the initial order.I will be putting reviews on every web site that I can about this place, I will also be bringing this order to their store tomorrow if they do not fix my wrong order.

Mediocre at best food, extremely slow delivery times, and my wife and I have had horrible service on multiple occasions. There are plenty of great Chinese places in the State College area, you'd be much better off patronizing somewhere else. Note: this restaurant should NOT be confused with Chen's Mongolian Buffet also in State College, which is wonderful.

Rude delivery driver.
Campus order of 3 lunch specials took over an hour to arrive and arrived cold. Delivery driver called to ask if I'd meet him in the parking lot to pick up our food - it was cold with a mix of sleet and rain, which was why we ordered delivery - he was extremely rude during the conversation going to the extent to say "he doesn't know where everything on campus is" when asked if he could meet me at the main entrance rather than the parking lot.
I never file a complaint but since he was rude and I had already tipped the delivery driver through our online order, we figured we'd make an exception this time. When I called the lady who answered the phone was apologetic.....only to hand the phone over to a man that continued to not understand that I was calling to complain about the delivery driver's behavior and not the length of time for the delivery. The man continuously explained the delivery time is estimated and they cannot change/control it, which was irrelevant to our reason for calling.
For future department lunch orders, we'll be selecting another restaurant in State College that doesn't have issues delivering on campus or employ rude delivery drivers.

I placed an order with Uncle Chen's through GrubHub, it arrived 20 minutes past the projected delivery time, which I didn't find problematic, though some may. When the food arrived, my order was missing a passionfruit smoothie ($5.40 value). I was willing to be passive about the matter but as I continued eating, I found two hairs in my vegetable lo mein. After some time passed, I called the restaurant to describe my experience. The woman I spoke to on the phone was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She spoke to her coworkers (which I could hear on the phone) with an angry and inconvenienced tone. She said they all know that the smoothie left the restaurant and was delivered. She also asked why I didn't call sooner to report my feedback. I spoke to her with professionalism and understanding, as I also work in the food service industry and know that it can be stressful. I explained that it was okay if she couldn't refund the smoothie, but I wanted them to be aware and take my feedback into consideration. At no point, did she apologize or try to compensate but instead accused me of being dishonest. I will not be returning to this restaurant, nor will I recommend it to anyone. I was treated with no respect and in a way that was curt and unprofessional. It was absolutely unacceptable.

This is a small carry out only restaurant in downtown State College. My favorite when visiting that area. Reasonable prices, very fast service, the parking can be a little frustrating at times.

I thought with all the asians there, including a child doing homework, that I would get some good authentic spicy food. Ordered kung pow shrimp. Well, there were peanuts and shrimp so I guess it was kung pow. I was not impressed. It has great reviews so maybe it was me but I found it all to be quite bland.

My roommates and I used to order from here when we were students and then I had it not long ago during a game. I have never had a bad meal here, but I never really had a great one either. I was always overall tasty. Sometimes there wouldn't be enough sauce on some things, other times there would be a little too much. Sometimes you would order say sweet and sour chicken with fried rice but instead it would come with lo mien. No enough to make me never eat their again.
If we did delivery it was usually between 30 minutes to an hour. If i ordered in store it was usually a 10 minute wait.
One time I was in the store sitting and waiting for my food and a guy with a fishing pole, wearing fishing waders, and carrying a stringer of trout comes in the restaurant and stands by the register. The woman working sees him and yells into the kitchen (speaking some dialect o Chinese). A guy, who could have been uncle Chen himself, pokes his head out and sees the fisherman. His eyes light up and he say "One minute". He comes out about a minute later with cash. Counts the fish on the stringer and then counts out money and gives it to the fisherman, who then leaves (after taking the fish off the stringer) the store. The guy then puts the fish in the dish sink that you can see from the waiting area and walks back whistling. It was weird and no big deal but i remembered that while writing this review so I decided to include it.

I was given their delivery menu from my hotel front desk staff and they came highly recommended. I placed my delivery order online. I ordered the beef fried rice and the beef and snow peas.
I received a phone call from the restaurant just a few minutes later. I suspected they were just confirming the order, but the nice man who spoke to me told me that they were out of snow peas. He offered to substitute broccoli for me. Well, beef and broccoli was a menu option but I'd not selected that. However, at that point, my hands were tied. I'd submitted my credit card information with the order, I was from out-of-town and didn't want to go out to get dinner, so I agreed.
My delivery was efficient. The small portions of each item I ordered filled two large Styrofoam takeout containers. The beef and broccoli came with sticky rice, which was just too much rice since I'd also ordered fried rice.
I'd made a special request with my order to please remember to include eating utensils and napkins (I've gotten hotel delivery where those simple things weren't included!), and the restaurant did remember.
The fried rice was good. Better than some I've had from other Chinese Restaurants. The beef and broccoli was added to the fried rice and I discarded the sticky rice. There was more than plenty enough to two large meals.
Although I was disappointed to not get my snow peas, the apology that came by phone sounded genuine. It might have been a nice gesture to offer to include an eggroll or small soup to make up for my inconvenience, however.
The delivery carrier was very friendly, and parted with saying, "I hope you'll enjoy your dinner". Just a nice little touch.
Overall, lack of snow peas aside, I wouldn't hesitate to enjoy Uncle Chen's again if I'm ever back in the area.

We ordered delivery which took about 45 minutes to arrive. We were warned so it was not a problem. The food was typical western chinese takeout. The packaging was in styrofoam trays, and cardboard cartons so leftovers were difficult to manage.
On a positive note, the food was hot, it was not loaded with MSG and for a tired traveler, it hit the spot. There are dozens of chinese takeout places in the area so next time I'll try something else.

On our first night in State College my wife and I decided to order Chinese food, and of the two establishments in the area, Uncle Chen's seemed to be the better value. They offer nearly 30 dinner specials for $7.59 which they say are available all day, and include an entrée and choice of one of three sides: egg roll, 4 chicken wings, or soup. They even give the convenience of ordering online, choosing fried or steamed rice, choosing sides and specifying degree of spice - none, medium, very spicy. Also, a first-time online customer is treated to a 10% discount.
The only problems we had were our fault. The Sesame Chicken was a bit more bland than I am used to, but I am certain that is because I ordered not spicy and probably should have ordered medium (though to me Sesame Chicken is never spicy). Also, the Pork in Garlic Sauce my wife ordered was swimming in much more peppers and onions (which she cannot tolerate) than pork. This however is a disadvantage of ordering online without being familiar with the menu.
The only other note I would like to make is point out that this is not an eat-in establishment. It's either pickup or delivery, and delivery, though free, takes more than twice as long as pickup (45 minutes vs. 20 minutes).
All in all it was a good experience and I think we would order again, though we will either clarify what is in the dishes and how spicy they nornally are, or just stick to ordering items we know.

Uncle Chen's is great if you're looking for fast and average Chinese food. Whenever I do pick up, the food is always waiting and hot when I get it. Really, the downside is that the food is just pretty average Chinese fare. But man, if you're just CRAVING some textbook greasy Chinese food, Uncle Chen will get you your fix!
