As a longtime Pittsburgh Native Prantl's has always been a gem. Today I stopped and purchased an array of items only to realize everything from the cookies to the brownies were stale. Clearly the management at Prantl's has changed and not for the better.

I've been going to Prantl's for 46 years! EVERYTHING there is absolutely delicious. They are known for their almond torte (and rightly so), but no matter what your pleasure there it is amazing! I am a frequent visitor, and I live 25 miles away!

I've never had a bad item from this bakery. They are known for their burnt almond torte which is truly fantastic. I don't think it tastes the same as it used to years ago. It could be because the quality of ingredients have changed over...More

These have to be the best pastries in Western Pennsylvania, by far. It is so hard to decide what to buy, we bought an extra mixed dozen beyond the two dozen we went in for. We spent a lot of time and the two guys...More

There is a wide variety of pastries to select from. Went in to get one thing and ended up with a box full of goodies. I couldn't just pick one. Needless to say, my family enjoyed and I will visit again.

So glad to have this bakery nearby, it's a gem. Glad that not a lot has changed since the original owners sold the business. Fresh, tasty treats. Burnt almond torte is still my favorite.

Prantl's Bakery is a Pittsburgh institution. Its "Burnt Almond Torte" and 100+ sinful sweets have been a tradition for the last 40 years. In fact, there's been a bakery in continuous operation at the flagship Shadyside store for over 100 years. Prantl's is a bakery in the German tradition, with old-fashioned fruit Danish and nut-filled coffeecakes, but we can't help but get excited about some of our "new favorites" as well, like key lime pie and our buttery croissants. In addition to our mouth watering special order cakes, we are famous for our "Burnt Almond Torte", which was conceived by Henry Prantl after a trip to California. There was an almond glut the year he went and the Almond Board was trying to get bakers to use almonds in new and inspiring ways. Henry picked up a few ideas and brought them back to Pittsburgh where he refined them into our current recipe for "Burnt Almond Torte", a unique and addictive dessert. If you've never had one, you really do have to try one. If you have had one, you know what we're talking about! Henry and Jane Prantl retired from the business in 2007. The bakery is now owned and operated by John M. Felice, who strives to maintain the tradition of high quality baked goods. We hope you agree . .
