Almond Torte has always been one of my favorite desserts. I did not know that this is where the burnt almond torte originated until I went there. The cake was light and delicious and I will definitely go there again when I am craving more.

One of the top 3 bakeries in Pittsburgh. They are known for their Burnt Almond Torte. It is not a restaurant but a stand alone bakery.

From their famous burnt almond torte to specialty treats like the hermit, Prantl's offers a great selection of above average treats and breads. The torte might bring you in but do not miss the opportunity to try something else. You will be happy you did.

Great selection of donuts, cakes and pastries and a reasonable price. Parking is iffy, but this is Shadyside. Worth it.

This is the go to place for the famed local Burnt Almond Torte. However, our favorites over the years have been their sourdough bread & Hallah, both excellent.

Excellent!! Best almond torte I've ever had. Great sugar cookies--practically melts in your mouth. I would also recommend their chocolate cake logs and their jelly filled cakes. I always order cookie trays from there instead of paying the ridiculous prices caterers charge.

3 words and 3 words only: Burnt. Almond. Torte. 3 letters and 3 letters only: O.M.G. 1 command: Eat this ASAP. You need this in your life. I am not a die hard fan of almonds, but i am a die hard fan of this dessert! It is the perfect airy, moist, sweet, crunchy, soft combination you will ever have... More

Bakery known for its toasted almond torte. Thought to be the only product made from scratch in the bakery. Difficult on street parking only drawback

Description
Prantl's Bakery is a Pittsburgh institution. Its "Burnt Almond Torte" and 100+ sinful sweets have been a tradition for the last 40 years. In fact, there's been a bakery in continuous operation at the flagship Shadyside store for over 100 years. Prantl's is a bakery in the German tradition, with old-fashioned fruit Danish and nut-filled coffeecakes, but we can't help but get excited about some of our "new favorites" as well, like key lime pie and our buttery croissants. In addition to our mouth watering special order cakes, we are famous for our "Burnt Almond Torte", which was conceived by Henry Prantl after a trip to California. There was an almond glut the year he went and the Almond Board was trying to get bakers to use almonds in new and inspiring ways. Henry picked up a few ideas and brought them back to Pittsburgh where he refined them into our current recipe for "Burnt Almond Torte", a unique and addictive dessert. If you've never had one, you really do have to try one. If you have had one, you know what we're talking about! Henry and Jane Prantl retired from the business in 2007. The bakery is now owned and operated by John M. Felice, who strives to maintain the tradition of high quality baked goods. We hope you agree . .
