Tan Lac Vien is a tiny Vietnamese restaurant with only 9 or 10 tables. But, don't let the size dissuade you. This hole-in-the-wall provided a nice dinner with extremely friendly service and really good food. I started with Goi Chon (Vietnamese summer rolls). These were clear rice wrappers filled with rice noodles, basil, shrimp and pork belly. The flavor was... More

Food is good with large portions but the seem to be always short on help. Wait time is long but it's worth the wait. Price wise it is competitive with other place around it, but with many types of Asian eateries nearby, it's got stiff competition.

We came here for a book discussion and I liked that we were seated in the upstairs area to allow for a quieter atmosphere. Our server was very accommodating and the menu had several pan-Asian options in addition to the Vietnamese choices. Food was good although slightly pricey.

Good pho, not-so-great spring rolls or steamed dumplings. Pretty expensive (2 small spring rolls for $5). I have had better at Tram's Kitchen in Pittsburgh. Fairly expensive for "just OK" Vietnamese food.

Tan Lac Vien was recommended to us by a family member, and it did not disappoint. There were many menu items from which to choose. I had Com Tam Ga Nuong Bi which is also called Broken Rice Chicken. The flavorful dish consisted of chicken and pork served with cucumber, tomato, lettuce, pickled vegetables, and fish sauce. My companion had... More

Anytime that I am in Sq Hill I eat here, esp on Saturdays when my usual venue is closed for Shabbat. The people are extremely nice and always help me decipher the menu. My go-to meal is the bun dac biet - house specialty. It is hard to stop eating it. Their fish sauce side is the best around. I... More

This is a nice small restaurant with courteous staff who patiently explain each dish's name. I can now certainly say that Ga means chicken :D I have been here a few times and tried the Com Tam, Bun vermicelli and Banh Hoi some with chicken and some with shrimp. They are extremely flavorful and come with one of the best... More

Trying to steer clear of chain restaurants with their pre-made, frozen, stick in the microwave 'fresh' offerings so decided to pop into this small restaurant (very limited seating, think there are around 10-12 tables, not romantic, but basic and functional) . Firstly, staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Second, portions are nice size. Great steamed chicken dumplings with the dipping... More

Had yet another great meal here at Tan Lac Vien and was treated to fried dumplings which were so tasty. You have to try them and the dipping sauce is excellent as well. The place was pack last night which attests to the great food and huge portions here at TLV. I'll continue to visit as long as this place... More

Most of the other Pittsburgh Vietnamese restaurants I've eaten in aren't quite as nice an environment. Don't get me wrong, this is still funky. It opened a couple of years ago and the décor feels a little tired. The food is excellent and remains a great value. My wife and I love the sour soup. It is vegetable served with... More
