We ate here for dinner. The chicken korma was fabulous 👌 I also tried the garlic naan bread and pappadams - yummo. We will be back to try more of the menu. Service was good and friendly. No complaints here

As lovers of Indian food and seeing a 4.5 star rating we figured we'd give this one a go. Firstly, it's like being in a flood-lit food court. This would have been fine if it was cheap and cheerful, of which it was neither. Inexplicably...we were shunted to the back of a stark, near-empty restaurant. I nearly got up to order having waited some time. We started with a chicken tikka dish to share - a favourite - which was bizarrely tasteless. It's the first time I've been in an Indian restaurant and thought to ask for salt. For the mains we were asked if we wanted mild, medium or spicy. We elected "medium" and were presented with a prawn dish that again, could have done with not only salt but actual spice. The prawns came with heads on which I've never seen in a curry house before. Ever tried peeling prawns covered in sauce?? Thought not. The other main, lamb rogan josh, was tastier. This would have been a plus if the lamb itself was edible rather than gristle and fat. Despite there being hardly anyone in the restaurant we waited ages for the plates to be taken away while enjoying the wine - which was actually the highlight of the meal! When asked at the cash register how our meal was we said 'average' and received a non-plussed, shrug-of-the-shoulders response.More

Had lunch there. The lunch special: tiny bowl of rice, two pappadams and tiny bowl containing two large prawns with their heads in some spicy sauce. Was not lunch! The waitress asked twice if we enjoyed our meal and we politely said yes, but on...the third time of asking I said that putting the whole prawns in a tiny dish was a rip-off. She knew exactly what I was saying. When we cut off the heads [messily] it was a very light meal. To the chef: cut the heads off and serve more prawns.More

Our experience does not justify the ratings compared to other 4+ rating restaurants we have eaten in recent. Overall fatty & not rich flavours.

Why did I get five prawn heads and only three prawn tails in my Prawns Malabar? OK, I've asked the question, and the three prawn tails were delicious, so I'll let it pass. I had the meal as a takeaway, so I can't comment on...much else. The dish was as spicy and tasty as I expected, and I enjoy spicy dishes. If I'd had five prawn tails, the rating would have been excellent. Was the chef hungry?More

Great prompt service. The palak paneer was amzing as were naan bread and entree. Rather disappointed with the customised cocktails. It is a shame that the restaurant add a charge for credit cards.

We went to the Mumbai Masala in Ballina for the first time last week and enjoyed it so much that we went back the next night. We were just visiting Ballina, but what a find! The restaurant is clean and spacious, the staff and service...first class and the food was great. The portions were what you would expect and all the food was extremely tasty. We could not recommend it more highly.More

With limited options of dining available in Ballina over the Christmas/New Year week, we grabbed a take away from here and we weren't disappointed! The goat curry and mango chicken were delicious.

Mumbai Malabar opens at 5 pm so we took advantage of that for an early dinner. We were made welcome from the start, and noted with pleasure the freely-offered opinion of a local resident who was waiting to collect take-away. She extolled the restaurant and...its food, and I'd agree with her assessment. Herself opted for the Aloo mutter; I chose the Prawns Malabar (medium spice), and in hindsight, could have handled the spicy version. We were both well satisfied, and I'll admit to thinking seriously about asking for a repeat ... conscience and my waistline held me back.More
