The outdoor seating is attractive. We ordered bruschetta as an appetizer. It was described as "deconstructed", but the eating experience was an odd combination of ingredients perched on top of too-thick pieces of too-dry, too-thick-crusted bread. The salad was passable. The waiter apparently assumed that...bread and salad was going to be our meal, so we had to flag him down to order entrees; they were ok, but not worth the extra wait, and for the price we expect better.More

Traveling the world, great places are tough to find. This is a diamond. Fabulous food. Risotto really yummy. Caesar Salad came without dressing? But that was fixed immediately. Fresh food, beautifully full fresh salads, delicious French Onion soup and excellent recommendations from your server. They...know what’s best!! I will be back.More

Have been going here for years and the desserts are World Class. The rest of the food is not that great. I recommend going here for dessert and coffee or better yet picking up a dessert to go because the table service is terrible.

Celebrating an important birthday, I invited a small group (8) of friends for a weekend brunch. Our experience could not have been better. The brunch menu was flexible enough to accommodate all preferences, and of course we had to have desserts which were reliably wonderful....Our server was exceptional - making recommendations based on preferences and being attentive but not hovering. We ended up hugging her on the way out. What a great dining experience!More

Not the best customer service. I think they have let the hype about the cakes get into their. The manager at the restaurant was rude and condescending. After spending $55 on a chocolate cake that usually comes with a caramel sauce. He charged us $5...litte cup. They have had the last of my money.More

As a place for dinner we would never go back. We went there for our Anniversary. Had the Flat Iron Steak. The steak was tasty but for $27 we got only 4 little slices and a HUGE plate of very salty greasy french fries. Would...of been better off at a Burger King or a McDonalds. At least the fries would of been good. The broccoli served on the side couldn't even been cut with a steak knife. I would suggest them for the desserts they are excellent. But for dinner entry don't waste your monies.More

We were warned by our dining companion that dessert here is a real treat, so we shared some French onion soup and a Caesar salad. Our friend had the risotto, which looked amazing. We split a Georgian peanut butter mousse torte and my husband had...an affogato. Our friend had a slice of the Boccone Dolce which was wonderful. Everything was delicious. The variety of the dessert menu was really impressive. It’s difficult to pick just one!More

Portlanders love brunch and the new trendy places get a lot of press visibility. But the wonderful long-standing standbys are sometimes the best. Papa Haydn’s with its satisfying menu of upscale comfort foods has never disappointed us. And the amazing dessert case in full view...is a pleasure to look at even if you don’t order any sweets. And unlike many patisseries, they have gluten free options that are as amazing as the rest. In the mood for chocolate, try the bomb. Want something lighter yet equally decadent, have the airy bocconi dolce. Or maybe a French macaron or coconut macaroon. Love it there.More

Our 8 yr old Granddaughter wanted me to review our recent visit. It was her first time to Papa Haydn East. The display of luscious desserts met us as we walked in. My husband and I shared a huge piece of Boccone Dolce and the...girls chose Lemon Chiffon cake and a mint chocolate cake. From the beautiful hot cocoa to the wonderful desserts the granddaughters were thrilled. Thank you Taylor for taking our photo and for taking care of us. We will be back.More

We go to both papa haydn's restaurants often and the food is always very good and the service is usually excellent. But not this last time. We arrived and had a gentleman server, who got us drinks , and then said that Megan would be...our new server as he was done for the evening. We had our drinks and were waiting to order. No visit from Megan. After 15 minutes of waiting, I went to the host, David , and said Megan was supposed to be our server, but she has been at 3 tables right next to our table , but has not stopped at our table. .I saw David talk to Megan, and nothing happened. So David came to our table and took our order. In the meantime Megan was serving and chatting with the 3 tables around us and right next to us. My drink had been empty for at least 20 minutes. Drinking soda. Megan brought out food and said absolutely nothing and didn't ask if I needed a refill. She was very indifferent towards us. I am a very friendly patron, always. When we were done with dinner, a busboy cleaned our dishes and Megan came and asked if we would like to see a desert menu. Of course we said. She then went to a table next to us and handed that table desert menus, but none for us. After a bit she brought that table their desert , but still had not even given us desert menus. By that time , I was not a happy diner. I got the bill, and left a small tip, I consistently leave 20 or 25 percent, but not tonight. On the way out I told David that our server was terrible our server was. he did ask if there was anything he could do, I said no thank you. I am not sure if megan was new or just didn't like us. We will continue to go to Haydn's because we like the food. If Megan were to be our server, I would definitely ask for another server or leave.More

My best friend and I were craving cake last night at 9pm, and after searching online for places found almost everywhere else closes at 6. Then we came across Papa Haydns. I’ve had it before at events for peoples parties and remember loving the cakes...I’ve had so we gave it a go especially since it was open till midnight. When you first walk in, it is a little narrow and a bit of a wait just for dessert but let me assure you that the wait is worth it. The staff also are so friendly and helpful that the wait doesn’t feel bad at all either. Once we were seated, our next challenge was figuring out what we wanted. And boy are the choices difficult! My friend got the Cassata which has Kahlua, espresso, almond sponge cake and vanilla Chantilly. I decided on going simple with the triple chocolate cake. When it was brought over, it was heaven in a slice! Its moist, and not overly sweet which I love and just perfection. They were even very thorough in making sure my friends cake never touched any strawberries as she is highly allergic which was awesome. Our waiter was fabulous, and I loved the little banter with him. He was absolutely right that the chocolate cake was to die for, and even more correct that it would taste even better in bed watching Netflix. So glad we have a place to satisfy our random cake cravings now at odd hours!More

Dined here with colleagues on the advice of local friends. The location is fun & unique with a youthful vibe. The neighborhood is lively & busy. Our group of 4 had various entrees and 2 bottles of wine. (I wish I made note of the...brand, it was a white & very good). I had the salmon with quinoa, it was ok but a bit well done. The dessert menu is HUGE, something for everyone. I had the lemon chiffon cake, it was disappointing. The layers looked light but were wet, almost like it had been frozen. But, I would try here again because of the wine, atmosphere & attentive wait staff (Thanks Quinn).More
