Heard roses had good shakes, so that was the purpose. Got here right as the shop was opening. The owner greated me with a worm smile. With out delay I was asked what I would like. With some recommendations from the workers I selected a stake burger and strawberry shake(the main mission). I have never had a ground stake burger,... More

Lots of flavors is probably the best quality here. Not the creamiest texture, but it is a nice, dense, house-made ice cream. My go-to cone or dish is the lemon custard, which is very tasty. I've enjoyed other flavors as well, and the cinnamon ice cream snickerdoodle sandwich is pretty special. The place itself is kinda dumpy (shabby and dated),... More

Tucked away in an older part of a Portland neighborhood, but still on 42nd Avenue, is this charming, personally operated ice-cream parlor that offers a variety of other "good eats". An old-fashioned Chili Dog, yummy Cheeseburgers, Grilled Cheese, etc. followed by a HUGE selection of ice cream flavors in regular or cake cones or in a dish, if you tend... More

An "old-timer" Portland resident recommended coming here instead of some of the more trendy places, but it seems to be just an old time place with no charm and nothing much else to make it stand out. The service was OK, and there are tables for sitting down to eat that ice cream cone, but the ice cream is nothing... More

Good flavors, but I wasn't a fan of the consistency. I did not think it was creamy enough and that was a little bit of a turn off. The wide variety of flavors was great though!

We stopped in for some ice cream after dinner at Pollo Norte. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the ice cream tasty. Not the best ever, but a fun little stop in spite of that. It was a little strange to notice a video poker room at the back of the restaurant. I had the Heath ice cream and... More

Roses is a neighborhood gathereing place. Nothing better than a break and a Strawberry Milkshake on a busy Saturday afternoon. If you choose to, you can eat a homemade hamburger or hot dog with the kids. A double scoop Ice Cream Cone as a reward for being good is a great idea. Always a friendly staff and nice and clean,... I took my kids here thinking this would be a wholesome after school treat. First, it is a poker/lotto deli masquerading as an ice cream store. So you have the gambling clientele in and out. Second, the ice cream tastes icey and freezer burned as opposed to creamy. Third, it's still the original 1950 ambiance without vintage charm. The word... More

with fresh, seasonal, local ingredients! We spotted Roses' on the way to the airport (it's in northeast Portland, just a few blocks south of the NE Killingsworth which goes to the airport) and pulled in. We were actually trying to go Salt & Straw, another local ice cream place that is very popular but the lines were dauntingly long so... More
