This restaurant features Latin American food and it is DELICIOUS! I enjoyed chicken chili relleno and hubby had the pork empanadas. Both had a yummy 'twist'. I loved the pumpkin seed sauce on the relleno with chicken and fresh mixed greens. Opt for the chips as an appetizer served with black bean puree, the same pumpkin sauce, and guacamole. Located on historic third street in McMinnville, we arrived at 11:30 for lunch and were immediately seated, the place was full by noon. We look forward to returning and exploring the menu.

spent the night in McMinnville on our way to the coast to play golf. Did some wine tasting and several people recommended Pura Vida for dinner. Our first choice was closed for the night so we went with the local recommendation and were not disappointed. Our waitress was a young woman who was absolutely charming. She recommended the fried avocado and it was amazing. We ordered two different kinds of tacos and loved them. Great vibe and excellent service!

I ate here for the first time Aug 2020 while helping my daughter move into her college dorm in town. She told me we had to eat at Pura Vida because it was the best food she'd had in McMinnville. She was right! I had the barbacoa tacos and they were amazing. If I didn't live in CA, I'd eat here at least once a week. My daughter had the empanadas and they were equally delicious. I've been trying to replicate their amazing pickled onions to no avail--will have to wait for my next trip to McMinnville. Also, the service was fantastic. We were served by a local college student who was helpful, professional, friendly, and very conscious of COVID precautions.

We were in town over the weekend visiting our daughter and grandsons. Sunday afternoon we decided to look for a Mexican restaurant. We looked on the internet and I saw Pura Vida Cocina. The food was really good. We started with taquitos and then had tacos. My husband had the seared beef, and I had crispy pork belly tacos. So delicious, absolutely the best Mexican/South American food that either of us have ever tasted. We live 4 hours away so visits will be spaced out, but we will tell all of our friends where to eat when they’re in McMinnville.

Although we had a reservation, we still waited about 20-30 minutes for our table, and then another 10 minutes before a server came to our table to take our drink order. The drinks were indeed very nice and the small plates were too (totopoes and platanos). My chile relleno however, was a real miss. It was nothing like an authentic chile relleno, stuffed with cheese and fried. This one was a mound of rice and bean mix with a chile sliced open and covering it. The sauce was bland with chunks of chopped vegetables, and the only cotija was a few sprinkles on top. I actually had to ask our server if he brought me the correct meal. Although my husband enjoyed his meal mine was sadly, quite bland and boring.

We stopped by while on vacation and wine tasting during the pandemic. Came here after several recommendations from various wineries. We had the pollo and brisket beef tacos on fresh made corn tortillas. The 3 dipping sauces served with the nacho chips were to die for. The place was busy with customers but our waitress was attentive. We have stopped at several tasty McMinnville restaurants and I think this might be our favorite so far.

We went for lunch as it was recommended by a local and we were so happy we did, it may just have been our favorite restaurant of our trip. The staff was friendly and prompt and the tables were spread out. The pods outside were full so we sat inside (of note though at this time if you sit outside you have to order online and then they will bring it to you, seemed like a good idea to me but I know some aren’t tech savvy). We had the fried avocado app ... so delicious!! And we had the Cuban sandwich and Barbacoa tacos, both were so flavorful and delicious! Would definitely eat here again !

We were a little hesitant about eating here because, quite frankly, from the street it doesn’t look special. Once inside though, we found an attractive interior with well-spaced tables and Covid screens. Our server was very attentive and explained a few of the dishes on the menu that we weren’t familiar with. Everything we ordered was delicious and looked great too. Definitely a place to return to.

Pura Vida is located right in the heart of downtown McMinnville, OR conveniently located amongst all the tourist shops. There are two street side dining booths that are covered so no risk of getting wet if it were to rain. The service is great, able to order and pay right from your phone while sitting at the table. The food is plentiful and very tasty, as close to authentic as you would want. The arepas are a yummy start to dinner and we had the barbacoa tacos and the sopas de vegetables, both excellent.

We were excited by all the positive reviews of this restaurant, but, upon eating here, were let down. The mixed salad was incredible, but our main dishes (a variety of tacos) were not as good. Served slightly cold, with few toppings and dry meat, they were ok, but nowhere near what was expected. There are only two desserts, and the place looks cheap and run down. We will not be eating here again, unless other places are full and grocery stores aren’t open.

Was in McMinnville for one day and saw this restaurant downtown. Checked it out on social media and went for the Cuban sandwich. It was awesome! The Cuban bread and unique pork topped with the traditional pickle and ham was served freshly made and still warm, along with the perfect amount of perfectly roasted potatoes. Definitely going back.

The fare is not your typical Mexican/Spanish cuisine. Service was very slow. Around the table there were various choices made and in every case there was food left on plates. My empanadas were tasty but very dry. Not sure if the other ratings posted were for the uniqueness of the menu but based on the food I was served it barely gets 3 stars.

Although casual, this is a restaurant that knows how to serve delicious food in a warm and professional manner. We split dishes and the staff could not have been friendlier to our requests. They divided our salad even without being asked. No extra charge for sharing the entree or any dishes. Nice sized menu with fresh ingredients done very well!

I am SO disappointed!
I had been telling my out of state family about this food for weeks. They have been my favorite restaurant. We finally placed an online order for take out....what a mess!
The enchiladas were smashed into a container and the top was a wilted, crushed soggy mess!!
I had also tipped, thinking that would show appreciation for thoughtful packaging, but obviously not!
What happened to the first rule of food prep and safety...cold food cold and hot food hot?
Ones that ordered tacos and empanadas said that theirs was good, but I was even struggling with the taste after having to sort through the discolored sogginess.

We chose Pura Vida based upon a recommendation from our hotel and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed the margaritas as well as the way too much food that we ordered. As it was hard to make a decision, we just knowingly ordered a lot. Had the Totopoes, Empanadas Puerco, Pork Belly Tacos, Barbacoa Tacos and a Chicken Chile Relleno. We grazed on all and the Pork Belly Tacos were the winner. Another winner was our server, Genaro, who was both entertaining and knowledgeable. Pura Vida deserves a visit and we plan to return when we are again in McMinnville next year.
