Once again, visiting wine country we had lunch at Dundee Bistro and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in a pleasant setting and good food. My spaghetti with prawns, although on the pricey side, was just the right amount and went well with the waiter's suggested wine. Although my grandchildren like nice restaurants, I would leave this one to adults and the excellent wine menu.

On a recent trip to the Willamette Valley for wine tasting, we needed to stop somewhere for lunch between wineries in the Dundee area, and we had some trouble finding a good place to stop. After reading relatively good things about Dundee Bistro, I made a reservation for lunch. Our lunch was totally fine, and gave us a place to eat and kill some time between wineries, but I probably wouldn’t come back.
Dundee Bistro is located on the small main street that goes through Dundee, and it is definitely a convenient stop if you will be doing wine tasting in that general vicinity. Reservations are currently required for any meal, and it wasn’t hard to make one in advance. I was actually surprised at how crowded it was when we arrived, with most tables full for lunch on a Sunday. The interior of the restaurant is rather dull, with nothing particularly interesting about it. It’s decorated in a vaguely Tuscan-looking manner, which would definitely appeal to older generations more than younger ones. The room we were seated in was fine, but with all blinds on the windows tightly shut, it was a little dark and depressing.
The service was totally fine throughout our meal. We started with two bowls of the soup of the day, which was a vegetable soup in a chicken broth, which was just ok, but nice to have on a chilly day. After that, I had the sausage pasta for my entrée, while my wife had the margherita pizza. The pizza was fine, but definitely not a margherita pizza. It was a simple cheese pizza with a few sprigs of basil on top, which is not the same thing. The pasta dish was fine, but nothing particularly special either. It didn’t have a particularly homemade taste to it, but it wasn’t bad. Finally, we finished the meal with an affogato, which was tasty, and kind of hard to mess up.
Overall, I don’t think Dundee Bistro is anything to write home about, but it’s not bad either. It’s a very average restaurant with a basic, diverse enough menu to make most people happy. I wouldn’t seek out a meal here again, but it did serve its purpose as a lunch stop in the middle of day of Willamette Valley wine tasting.

Reservations are required. Parking is tight if you arrive in anything larger than a small 4 door sedan. Exterior appearance is manicured, and maintained well.
The staffing was very courteous, friendly and patient.
Entering into the dining side, first impression was a nice atmosphere. After sitting and getting to look at the interior, there is a large amount of unfinished or poorly finished design to the dining hall.
Dundee bistro has made a nice airy seating arrangement that makes it comfortable to dine in. They are managing through the Covid crisis well and maintain a very clean eatery.
Now for the dining experience. Ordered a ceasar salad. Nicely made salad with the exception of the olive choice in the salad. The caesar had a nice creamy flavor with hand shredded cheese on it. But the olive was overpowering the salad.
Follow on appetizer, I ordered the cheese platter. Waitress explained the cheeses (3 cheese types) for the platter and the other items accompanying the dish. When it arrived, it had 2 cheeses only and waitress explained that one of the cheeses was out of season after the fact. With the platter came hazel nut, olives and some honey. Granted, I like honey, the problem was the honey was drizzled on the chopping pallet used as the appetizer presentation. If the dining table isn't level, the honey tends to drift off the platter as gravity plays its role.
The entree was pork chop with rice and mushrooms. Healthy portion of meat on a base of well prepared rice and mushroom in a cream sauce. After biting into the dish, the sodium content was a little high.

What has happened to Dundee bistro? It should’ve been a clue that although we were unable to get reservations at the other top restaurants in the area, it was no problem getting one at Dundee Bistro. When we arrived, although the parking lot was full, the restaurant was at most half full. There were many empty tables. Our reservation was for 6:30 PM and we arrived three minutes ahead of time. They refused to seat us until exactly 6:30 and requested that we either wait at the bar or stand around and wait for the next three minutes. At precisely 6:30 they seated us at a four top table (there were two of us) and when I requested a smaller, more cozy table (of which there were four in the near vicinity) our waitress told us she would have to “check with the manager.”-- This was the same guy who refused to seat us three minutes ahead of our reservation. He agreed to let us sit at a smaller table, but chose the one closest to the exit from the kitchen and it was very loud. I asked if we could have one of the nearby tables instead because it was so loud there and he replied “it’s a restaurant. It’s loud”. A few minutes later he did let us know he had turned the music down to make it slightly less loud.
We have been to Dundee Bistro many, many times over the past 16 years and although the menu is not particularly refined nor imaginative it’s always good for a quick meal and some good wine. (Despite their pride in an extensive wine menu, tonight I was told without apology or suggestion that it was “out”).
We had specifically wanted pizza that night as I saw online that they had expanded their repertoire of pizza choices. When we got there, however, there were only three choices. And then the waitress let us know that the pizza oven “wasn’t working that night” and that pizza was “not an option”. We should choose something else. As we wanted something simple, we both chose the ($24) burger with the truffle fries. But the fries looked like they had been the dregs of a large batch. They were almost all less than half an inch long. Furthermore, they served us our dinner without even noticing that they have never even given us any silverware or napkins and as we started to eat, realizing our loss, we had to flag down a waiter to request them.
Interestingly, there were five people at a four-top just opposite us and they received multiple visits from an older gentleman in an apron who inquired solicitously about their dinner several times and made conversation. No one asked us a thing throughout the entire dinner or seem to care at all about our dining experience, yet these people were treated like royalty. Maybe they were?

The service was great. This review is not based on our service whatsoever.
Our meal however is another story.
Undercooked pasta covered in microwaved pasta sauce was simply unacceptable for $23.
My husbands pizza was slightly better but barely edible.
Our charcuterie board was average and drinks were acceptable.
We left highly disappointed considering we waited all day for dinner at this place.
I understand how difficult these COVID times are for restaurants, but pasta and pizza are simple no brainers. This was absolutely unacceptable.

We booked a table a week in advance of our stay in Newberg. We arrived on a beautiful day, and the tables outside were bustling. We were shown to a table inside with one other group of people, given menus, water and left to ourselves for 15 minutes, despite trying to catch the eyes of the waitstaff heading from the kitchen to the patio. Finally our waiter came and took our appetizer and cocktail order, and we waited for another 20 minutes when our appetizer arrived. No sign of the cocktails. At this point, I got up and approached a server who found me a manager. I asked if staffing was an issue that evening, because if so, I understood, but would prefer to go elsewhere. She assured me it would get better and went off to make our cocktails herself. Our appetizer, a burrata bruschetta was excellent! The manager brought the cocktails out herself, and they were also very good. She apologized again, was very sweet. The service improved from that point, and our waiter was very attentive and helpful. And they didn't charge me for my entre, which was nice. When you draw a restaurant's attention to a problem and they step up to make things better, you have to give them credit! The four star review is for the quality of the food, and the good save!

Met a friend for lunch at the Dundee Bistro. We didn’t have a reservation, however we were seated at a lovely table near the fire place. Delicious food and very attentive server. The chef allowed us to order a smaller portion of raw oysters which was so very kind. It’s those little touches that makes one wanting to return again and again

We enjoyed a nice lunch here. I had the beet salad and my husband the fish and chips. The fish was cod and had a light batter on it, cooked nicely, not greasy. The beets salad was good. It was relatively small and came with no crackers or bread - an extra. Overall, a nice experience but on the pricey side.

We were there for an early dinner midweek , about 5:30 PM, without a reservation, and were immediately seated. I loved the wine list and I was not surprised how exceptionally delicious our dinners were. I should have known - the service and the dinners are always outstanding, in my humble opinion. I do love the Dundee Bistro.

My wife and I thought the food was very good, bordering on excellent. But the experience was marred by service which was just a bit too rushed.
The salad/appetizers came quickly even before our wine arrived. So the wine tasting was overpowered by the excellent and tasty vinegar in the dressing. There was no regular bread available, just Focaccia which was not what I wanted. And the appetizer/salad was only have consumed before our main courses arrived. Since we arrived on time for out 6:30 reservation and the restaurant serves until 8:00, why rush us out by 7:30 with 50% of the tables empty.

On a Tuesday in February not every restaurant in town in open, the Dundee Bistro was. Turns out we didn't need another restaurant, the food here was outstanding. Our waiter was very knowledgeable - of both food and beverage. The theme is Italian (no checkered tablecloths), think more upscale Tuscan Villa.

Stopped at Dundee bistro today on our casual Sunday drive. Restaurant had take out orders and we ordered a Margherita pizza and a Mediterranean Pizza. Did not call ahead but the Pizza's were done in 12 minutes time. What a treat, excellent pizza that we enjoyed in a make shift picnic. Would highly recommend as it is important to support your local favorites in this tough times, and Dundee Bistro is definitively one of our favorites in Dundee.

This was recommended to us by The Dundee Hotel. We walked from the hotel while visiting from the Bay Area. What a great spot! The food was delicious. I had the Salmon, my husband had a pasta special and our friends chose other dishes, all were happy with our selections and the service was exceptional. As you might expect the wine list did not disappoint. I appreciated our server being very knowledgeable and willing to make recommendations. We are already planning a trip back in the spring and this is now a "must return" to spot whenever we are in the Willamette Valley.

When you are gluten free, it’s disappointing. When you go to a restaurant and they do not offer gluten-free bread. It’s upsetting when they offer pasta dishes and do not have one gluten-free pasta as an option. But what really made me angry at my recent visit at the Dundee bistro was when I asked if I can order a dish and have the pasta replaced by potato and was denied That option. If you are not going to offer gluten-free pasta, at least allow people to substitute with potato when it is a dish with pasta. The rest of the meal we ordered was fine but the lack of customer service and willingness to make this customer happy upset me and impacted the whole experience .

Stopped by again to this wonderful bistro for a lunch while out picking up wine from my wine clubs. As always the food and service was impeccable. If you haven’t tried the Burrata Appetizer, or the Brussel Sprout Appetizer, you should! Those are my 2 favorites. The hamburger is delicious. Wine choices amazing.
