My husband and I both had a steak (and we both eat steak a lot) and it was absolutely outstanding, taste, sauce, sizing, accompanying sides and price!! We couldn’t fault it at all🙌 We also had a ‘panookie’ for dessert that was absolutely delicious and the kids meal that we ordered was big enough for our two little ones to share. Overall a fabulous experience and we would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Stanley.

We dined here on our recent visit to Stanley. You must book. The food was well above pub food, well prepared and cooked and speedily served. We enjoyed oysters and calamari the latter being really perfectly cooked. We then enjoyed Flake fish and that too was great. We surely recommend this place.

Excellent service from the young lady in FOH, friendly and knowledgeable. All meals were well prepared and fresh, very happy with everything about today's meal, even the Pinot Grie was exceptional. Such a huge improvement from our last time there and we will be back.

27/01/2024 - The staff were pleasant but the food fell a long way behind unfortunately. Two adults and a child for meal and ordered a bowl of chips and bowl of veggies (child), pork cutlet and veggies and a fish of the day from the specials board which is inappropriately named. Childs meal was out quickly and as would be hoped no problems with it and that’s where it stopped. Family of six come in after us and sit next to us and all served before us adults. 40 minutes after the bowl of chips and veggies the other two meals arrived, pork cutlet and veggies was acceptable but nothing special, the $42 specials board pink ling consisted of the following half a plate chips, an overcooked dry small piece of fish and salad that consisted of some greens, two small pieces of tomato and two pieces of cucumber and not enough onion to make an ant cry and an non existent bowl of aioli. Not overly busy restaurant and plenty of staff on duty it was just really disappointing. Can’t recommend I’m sorry.

Overpriced pub food. Bland unseasoned and extremely expensive. I had fresh blue eye fish, grilled. Dry with raw potato and a tiny salad, served with the smallest amount of Mayo. Also ordered schnitzel with vegetables. Two tiny serves of schnitzel (kids size) and undercooked and under seasoned vegetables. Served with gravy that tasted like it was out of a packet. Arrived at 6 pm and was out at 6.40. Such a shame . Don’t waste your money total disappointed

We arrived early at 4:30. They informed us that the kitchen opens at 5:00. When we asked to order food at 5:00, they informed us the kitchen doesn’t open until 5:30. It was clear the first staff member we spoke to didn’t know what he was talking about. All the tables were fully booked. Because we did not have a reservation it felt like we were treated like trash. We recommend booking in advance or not coming to Stanley as there a very limited dining options in this town. The food we received was below average. We ordered the abalone, which was tasteless and chewed like leather. The chowder was only mediocre. The lobster was good yet quite small. The best part of the dinner was the french fries. We ate outside on the deck in the sun as there were no available tables. The afternoon sun was such that we were being sunburned. The wind was blowing, and the seagulls were acting like predators, trying to get at our food. After the meal, my wife felt ill with pain in her stomach, possibly due to the oils used by the restaurant. The bill for two of us was AU$175. Given the food quality and the poor treatment by the staff it certainly was not worth it.

Overpriced. Poor service. Non personal. Harried and hurried. I felt obliged to eat fast. The service staff spoke aloud about having limited seating for the amount of patrons. I'd booked as a solo diner and they sat me at the top of the room looking over everyone, looking obvious. No privacy. I felt overt the entire time.

There is not a lot of people choice in stanleyfor dinner so it was the hotel but strip for 3 nights. The selection of food is adequate however the service by inexperienced staff was appalling. The wait for any food was 1.5 hours on each night and in 2 occasions the order was incorrect. When you are paying high prices for food you except better. So sad as this used to be a wonderful, friendly and efficient hotel. I can't see us returning any time soon.

We just had a beautiful meal at the Stanley Hotel. Price was equivalent to a what I would expect from an upmarket Tassie restaurant, the food was quite good, perhaps not quite up to the $$, but still good.
However, the evening was ruined by staff asking us to leave because the 'people were waiting at the bar' for our table to be added to theirs. When I booked I was offered 3 seating times with no indication that the time I selected was only allocated a 1.5hr seating. Personally I don't think 1.5hrs is long enough for 3 courses + bread.
Very disappointed to be asked to leave when there were other tables vacant and we would have stayed for more drinks and coffee.
My tip would be to check how long you have the table for when you book.

Not tonight Josephine
The menu is not backed up. Ordered A scotch fillet steak - served a tough old porterhouse and with the wrong sauce!!!! Not worth the money asked. No fix offered by the waitress!! The satay chicken dish was cooked well and tasty. Will try down the road tomorrow night. Over promised under delivered!

We had an 8pm dinner booking, we were seated a little earlier however we were invisible until 8pm. Could only order drinks by a certain staff member, we’re not allowed to order any food yet even though we were ready and starving. Finally ordered at 8.30pm. Ordered the beef and Guiness pot pies and all 3 pies were served with no meat. Pure gravy with a pastry lid. We have seen soup thicker than the liquid that was inside our pies. They put in the guiness but forgot the meat. Needed a draw not a knife and fork. We then complained only to receive ANOTHER LOT of pies exactly the same. However it did serve as a nice gravy to dunk our chips into. Chicken schnitzel made one of our family members feel sick. Staff were unfriendly. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. If you are staying in Stanley definitely bring your own food to self cater. Left the restaurant still hungry and $$$$ poorer.

This pub was built in 1847 and was initially named the Emily Hotel. Several name changes later it became the Stanley Hotel however it has been continually licenced since it originally opened over 175 years ago.
We visited the bar on a couple of nights for a glass of wine and were pleasantly surprised at how relatively quiet and warm it was with largely, what appeared to be, just locals.
We decided to give the bistro a try, given that it had received numerous good reviews, and were very pleased that we did. The bistro is a large area at the rear of the hotel.
The menu was quite extensive and contained a number of typical pub dishes as well as a good number of seafood entrees and mains. We shared the salt and pepper squid entree, which was very lightly battered and not chewy at all. As mains we had the 300 gram Cape Grim scotch fillet which was cooked exactly as requested and was quite delicious. The steaks came with chips and salad or vegetables and the sauce of your choice. We had one of each of the sides.
Wine list was extensive and we were able to take the bottle that we ordered in the bar through to the bistro.
Staff were very pleasant, attentive and efficient.
Recommended.

The hotel portrays itself as a steak and seafood specialist, I mean this is Tasmania, the state excels in the production of great steak and seafood, we’ve had some amazing meals in Tassie over the years. This wasn’t one of them. Location and decor of the hotel are very good, staff member who served us was excellent. Unfortunately the food let the venue and the staff down. It was okay but specialist…….no. I had the seafood tasting platter for one, my wife the local lobster. In all honesty these two meals were no better than an average pub counter meal, reasonably bland in taste. The main things you want on the plate were okay in size but padded out by lots and lots of chips to make the meal look more substantial. At $60 a head (food only) in a regional location we would have expected something better than this 5/10 offering.

$49 tiny scotch fillet with cold veg, bland curry & rice with mini pappadums & glass of wine just short of $100 - not worth the high mark up. We are in the bar due to no seats & couldn’t hear ourselves over the swearing. It was very basic pub grub, Nothing above average or deserving of the high mark up. I get costs have gone up & running a biz is hard, yet cold veg with a $49 steak? That’s less than a palm size? Great spot, cute pub, lovely polite nice staff, food & even the beer & wine too high for current costs. Everyone is doing it tough, yet not cool when so few choices in town, next time people might miss town altogether.

We dined for dinner and were pleased with our choice of restaurant overall. The menu had a very good range of dishes which would suit all tastes. The wine list had a good range of drinks at all price points. Our selected dishes were delicious for both main courses and dessert. However, it was very noisy and crowded. The staff were rushed off their feet and some things had to be repeated. If this is not a problem then a delicious meal can be had at this venue.
