Having not visited this pub for a couple of years and previously very impressed, we decided to revisit. I was surprised how much it had changed. There was no restaurant feel at all. After asking for a menu and where to order at the bar,...More

My girlfriend saw this two for one offer on Facebook, we were suspect as it said it said all beers lagers and ciders get 2 for 1. Not been in here for a while but never had a bad experience here. They have now got...More

The interior of The Birdcage is different from what I had expected from the outside. The timber framed building is now a modern pub in an old setting with TV screens and background music, however they serve good ale and interesting gins, together with a...More

Housed in an old, characterful building in central Thame, this pub was a bit disappointing. Considering the building’s obvious heritage, I found the place a bit raw & basic. There is an emphasis on gin & pies, although Fullers “London Pride” was available which is...More

Sorry, no idea, I am not a beer drinker, and I don't particularly like the restaurant. If you want good beer, the probably the best in Thame is Cross keys, but they don't do food.

The Birdcage, serving award winning pies by Pieminister and premium Craft & Speciality beer is located in Thame's town centre. Built around 1300 it has fortunately retained its structural character and many of the elm beams, once covered in ancient plaster, have been exposed creating the historical atmosphere inside and out. During the Napoleonic wars, the Birdcage housed French prisoners who incidentally founded the local Masons. In fact, for many years it was used as a holding house for petty thieves and criminals, even lepers on the upper floors! Of course stories handed down from generation to generation have only enhanced its eerie reputation of being haunted by some of these troubled souls!
