We had a lovely lunch at The Meadow House on Tuesday 14th Feb, St Valentine's Day. It wasn't very busy, due to it being midweek and out of season; I imagine at the weekends and during the peak holiday season it could get very busy. I had an excellent hot sea-food platter with chips and salad, my husband had a... More

This is a pleasant pub / restaurant close to a Morrisions Supermarket and Travelodge Hotel. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and decor. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Service is timely, not so fast as to make you think your table is required for someone else and not so long that you have been forgotten. Just right. The... More

Ate there for two nights early in January 2017. Had the homemade Angus burger one night, and the steak and kidney pie the second night. Both were excellent and would recommend . Adjoining pub was so quiet one night that it was closed about half past eight. The restaurant was busier but not overcrowded. All in all, it was quiet,... More

Good food (see picture ) I had the chicken bacon and Brie risotto and hubby had scampi and chips were both really nice. Friendly staff and decent priced if your going past and need a bite no reason not to stop here.

visited on New Years Day and despite being very busy we were shown to our table and provided with drinks and menus very quickly. Two of our party had the fish and chips which they said were excellent - tasty fish and batter which was neither dry or greasy - just right. I had the chicken pie which was also... More

This is one of our regular eating places. Great variety whether it's for us and my mother or other visitors or friends. Portions are huge bur many have a smaller option. Service is good and friendly. Well worth a stop off of the A1.

Cheap meals, friendly, helpful staff, but please do something with your floor. I know that you had to take the carpet up, but some sort of temporary flooring until sorted would be better than concrete. The Chicken was very dry.

I recently visited this restaurant with my family, we are regulars although the food is not always great. We arranged to visit to take advantage of the two meals for £10 deal although despite this offer being advertised on various signs we were told we were unable to use the deal as it was finished. Very disappointing and we will... More

The Meadow House is an unusual pub by today's standards. No chrome, tv's, leather, little lights in the floor or pictures that look like someone threw the paint at the canvas blindfolded! To sum it up, we are a family run, unpretentious rural country pub, that aims to provide great quality home cooked food and service at a fair price; that's it!Since the early days of the A1 highway we have regularly been known as 'The First and Last Pub in England' as the Scottish Border is only a mile away. Our main emphasis is our food. Over the last 30 years we have built up a great reputation for serving only the finest quality fresh local produce from all around the borders, and lots of it!We are lucky to have great team of staff that are as interested in the business as we are. Our enthusiastic head chef Adam Bettison is relentless in his quest for ever improving our food. With help from David Hearn, the owner and chef, who was trained at Michelin starred Winteringham Fields the service is well above average for a country pub. We are locally renowned for are homemade desserts made by Edith Hearn, the proprietor and chef. For 30 years her homemade ice creams, meringues and more have tantalized the taste buds of people all over the world! The restaurant & bar are stuck in the past, with their unique decor that is farming and game orientated, and some could argue the menu; with classics like prawn cocktail, whitebait, steak and kidney pie and fish and chips is also very traditional, but why should we change? After all its food like this that help build this country! We are wheelchair friendly being on one level, and due to be being able to seat 100 we can cater for large parties including weddings & funerals. Our large car park means parking is not a problem. We are very family orientated and we can adapt for any dietary needs, allergies or dislikes, just let us know!We look forward to seeing you,David, Edith & all the Team.
