As we were not from around the area we relied upon reviews to help us out finding a nice home cooked Sunday lunch. We thought be would try the meadows house just off the A1. Upon arriving staff showed us to our table promptly. I was very disappointed with the decor, it was dated and tired looking. I already had... More

Having met up with my Mother & Father-in-law to drop off Xmas presents, we decided to pop in for lunch. I have been driving past The Meadow House for over 18 years (my wife is originally from Edinburgh and I'm from Newcastle) and never been inside, we would normally call in to McD's across the road to keep the kids... Stopped off for lunch and whilst not fantastic the grub was honest and ample. Guinness was well kept and service was good and attentive. Easy parking and obviously a nice sunny spot in the summer as playground outside would be good for kids

Having visited this establishment on a few occasions, and enjoying each one, we were pleasantly surprised to find they seem to have changed there setup ever so slightly. Meals prices seemed cheaper, menu seemed more of a regular variety, but still as tasty, definitely recommend a visit if you haven't been before, or a revisit if you have.

Ok so we did not book a table so this could be our fault but this was pretty busy for a midweek lunch, only 1 person serving and it looked like it was a bit much for them. Menu said twice cooked chips,in my opinion they were cooked more than twice. They were super greasy and the tiniest chips, kind of what... More

Late lunch with partner so restaurant not busy. Extensive menu but unfortunately our first choice of Roast Beef was not available. Was not told this before ordering. However, the Eyemouth haddock was excellent. The homemade tartare sauce was also very good. Rather intrigued by the hairdryer and curling tongs in the ladies toilets!

As we live locally we are here quite often and have always been pleased with our meals etc, however we were here just over a week ago and were very disappointed.Having placed our orders we were waiting 25 minutes for our starters to arrive, these were fine no problems there. When our main courses eventually came after another long wait there was an... Thankyou for taking the time to review our restaurant, but this is also my issue! you say in your review that you have dinned with us several times and enjoyed it, but, may I ask, where are those good reviews????? This is why TripAdvisor is flawed as some people only take the time to go on and moan which gives... More

A prompt and friendly welcome and good choice of seats. Tables unusually small and cramped for more than couples. Free wi fi was sporadic. Starters...large onion rings and haggis bon bons both swimming in grease. 'Jack Daniels' sauce just tasted like run of the mill barbecue. Prawn cocktail lacked sauce and imagination. Main course chicken was dry and Yorkshire pud... More

We sat at a table by the window, and all through our meal we watched and listened to the manager, who was having a meeting right in front of us, how rude. Our food was terrible. the Chips were little crunchy left overs, my peas were an off olive green, either tinned or left over from another service and tasted... More

Oh I'm so glad you decided to review us, after I herd how you both treated my staff! Nobody deserves to be spoke to how you did, rudely, arrogant and aggressive....over a slice of lemon and a few peas! Thank god you wont be returning as I don't want people like you in my restaurant! Futher more...... I had brought... More

The Meadow House is an unusual pub by today's standards. No chrome, tv's, leather, little lights in the floor or pictures that look like someone threw the paint at the canvas blindfolded! To sum it up, we are a family run, unpretentious rural country pub, that aims to provide great quality home cooked food and service at a fair price; that's it!Since the early days of the A1 highway we have regularly been known as 'The First and Last Pub in England' as the Scottish Border is only a mile away. Our main emphasis is our food. Over the last 30 years we have built up a great reputation for serving only the finest quality fresh local produce from all around the borders, and lots of it!We are lucky to have great team of staff that are as interested in the business as we are. Our enthusiastic head chef Adam Bettison is relentless in his quest for ever improving our food. With help from David Hearn, the owner and chef, who was trained at Michelin starred Winteringham Fields the service is well above average for a country pub. We are locally renowned for are homemade desserts made by Edith Hearn, the proprietor and chef. For 30 years her homemade ice creams, meringues and more have tantalized the taste buds of people all over the world! The restaurant & bar are stuck in the past, with their unique decor that is farming and game orientated, and some could argue the menu; with classics like prawn cocktail, whitebait, steak and kidney pie and fish and chips is also very traditional, but why should we change? After all its food like this that help build this country! We are wheelchair friendly being on one level, and due to be being able to seat 100 we can cater for large parties including weddings & funerals. Our large car park means parking is not a problem. We are very family orientated and we can adapt for any dietary needs, allergies or dislikes, just let us know!We look forward to seeing you,David, Edith & all the Team.
