This might be a small eatery downstairs from their very well stocked shop full of delicious treats, but it has a wonderfully friendly welcome, and delicious food. We were even offered a taster of their soup of the day for our fussy eating 8 year old. Portions were great, so good value, and quality of food and service were excellent.... More

Querkie cellar dining but great atmosphere in Grannies kitchen surrounded by her nic-nacs and bloomers hanging up to dry. Great food fantastic sandwiches and scones and great friendly staff. Recommended for a coffee and snack for lunch but be aware narrow stairs so not for those who cannot use the stairs. Good value.

A very pleasant little oldie worldie cafe tucked below the shop of the same name. Visited today (Easter Sunday) after doing the Alnwick Garden and as it had started raining I was very relieved to find it open and that they could sit our party of five (though on separate tables) It's very small downstairs and not much seating but... We were stopping at Berwick-upon-Tweed for a week and decided to go down to Alnwick. Looking around a a nice lunch we came upon Grannies. The cafe is down in the cellar but this added to the ambiance. My hubby ordered Cheese savory baked potato and I ordered chicken and apple with tarragon mayonnaise. I asked the owner could I... We arrived with only 5 minutes to spare before closing, but in fairness, the kind lady agreed to serve us. What a place, from the very well stocked delicatessen on ground floor to the quirky cellar tea room. The tea and service were excellent. Recommended

Grannies restaurant/cafe is in the basement of Grannies delicatessen shop on Narrowgate. It isn't the easiest of places to get into as you have to descent some fairly steep steps, but it is worth it when you get in there. It is beautifully decorated with 'grannies' style memorabilia and serves excellent coffee, scones, cakes and a wide-ranging menu of casual... More

My wife and me often visit the lovely town of Alnwick to be spoilt during our visit to Grannies which is a very well established business. As you may see from other fellow travellers this place gets a thumbs up. Our favourite lunch is the clubhouse sandwiches which there is a selection to choose from. Excellent presentation , freshly made... More

In the basement of a lovely delicatessen in Alnwick lies Grannies tearoom. We visited today and the food was outstanding along with the service provided by the staff. My wife had a cheese platter and I had the broth, which was full of barley and the nicest I have ever had. We also had drinks and the bill was only... More

Just wanted something light for lunch and had some delicious sandwiches with a tasty side salad ...Well worth the money. The building is quirky and steeped in history with original features. Staff very friendly and helpful. Look out for the original painting in the cellar ...Is she male or female?!

Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen.

Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.
