My friend and I decided we'd have our first post lockdown catch up at The Shires and boked for 5pm. The staff were welcoming and we were shown to out table and a drinks order taken. I struggled to choose something from the menu and...so I asked if chef would do me Cajun salmon ( he has in the past) and to my delight he did. The salmon was a nice thick piece cooked to perfection and the chips that came with it were delicious. My friend had scampi and she said it was really tasty. The portion sizes were generous as always. I opted for Turkish Delight cheesecake and it was to die for, the best cheesecake I have ever tasted, my only complaint was that the piece wasn't big enough!! My friend and I struggle with the coffee at The Shires, it's from a machine but far too strong for our liking. When we said that to the staff member she offered to make it in a bigger cup so it would be weaker and it was much better. The staff were attentive, the food was excellent and I can't wait for a return visit.More

We went to Shires today for our Sunday Carvery. Yes first thing i noticed, was they had done a lot of updating since we last visited. It looked really nice.A massive improvement. As usual the food was excellent. As was the table service.Would definitely recommend.

The food has always been good here but the service on this occasion was very very slow and haphazard. Trying to attract someone’s attention for another drink is almost impossible it’s almost like the waitresses have blinkers. The same lack of service was encountered after...the meal was served we were looking for additional sauces which were not on the table it appears that once you’ve got the meal no one cares. The place is very understaffed even on quiet times heaven knows what it will be like on a very busy weekend. What also is apparent since the last time we were there before Covid, there’s been a 20% increase on all the food and drink prices, some might find that acceptable, but for an out-of-town rural and average establishment I find that unacceptable, but of course, someone has to pay for the owners McLaren car.More

We have been to the shires several times now as a family of 3 and also with a larger group of family and every time the food was absolutely brilliant. No matter how busy they are, the standard has always been the 10/10 that we...have become accustomed to from The shires. Really really good value for money, really good quality food and produce used. Staff are all really friendly and can not do enough for you. Would highly Recommend for Sunday lunch, as well as for a bar meal or lunch time snack. Would highly recommend. We travel over an hour just for lunch now.More

You would think they would hate people like us who walk in on a Sunday afternoon when they’re rushed off their feet and we hadn’t booked. They couldn’t have been more accommodating. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside, the food was exceptional....My daughter had a gorgeous Sunday roast and could pick exactly what she wanted. My husband and I had a steak salad which had the most amazing onion rings and new potatoes and warm bread. We’ll be back very soon. Especially with bouncy land too!More

We were taking my family here for the day which it looked brilliant for, my one complaint was the fact they let us know at 10:20 that they weren’t going to be open due to the weather and I posted this to their page to...make them aware, that the time they let us know wasn’t really helpful being that we were due on at 11 and were travelling far to get there. We were told that we should have checked the page and they couldn’t help the weather but failed to apologise for the fact that they didn’t let us know in advance! I explained we had checked the page and there was nothing on until after 10, which by that time we had set off and we explained they would know if it would be safe before that time. We were told it had only started raining at the time they txt us directly, it hadn’t, as we were there. What I’m more annoyed with is the fact they could accept responsibility for their mistake and they proceeded to delete my comment and not address the issue. Poor customer service!More

Hello, The menu is fairly normal, it’s just a bound book with lists of what sort of food we sell. It’s got starters, main courses and desserts in, its very fancy. We hope this helps. Amos Wilks
