Visited Nice Pie (NP) for the very 1st time this morning after Parkrun for breakfast. We only live 4 miles from here so I guess we should've visited long before now.
We usually go to another farm shop / cafe in the area but today...decided on NP for a change.
Got there at 10.10am and just 1 other table was occupied with 2 people sat at it.
Firstly, the location of NP is fantastic & the decor inside was very nice. That unfortunately is where the positives end.
The menu stated be seated, wait, and someone will take your order. We sat there for about 8mins without anyone coming to us. A 3rd couple came in and after 2-3 mins, went up to the counter to order. On seeing this, I then went up. Once my turn, I said to the young guy behind the till "Sorry, but your menu says wait and you'll be approached for your order". He replied, "I think that's old" (maybe referring to previous Covid measures).
I ordered a bacon & sausage bap, a vegetarian breakfast & 2 coffees. The bacon bap was £4 (quite reasonable) but the vegetarian breakfast was £10 which I thought was a little excessive.
A couple of minutes later, a girl bought over our coffees and asked "do you want sugar?" I asked just for a sweetener. She went away to ask, coming back to say "we don't have sweetener but I can get you sugar" I declined.
Maybe another 3 or 4 minutes passed when the breakfast arrived. Initial presentation was good as was the taste. However, 1/3 through the vegetarian breakfast, I discovered 2 longish hairs in my egg. I picked these out on the end of my finger & approached the counter. I extended my finger & said to the young lad that I'd just found them in / on the egg. An older gentleman, the cook and / or possibly the owner), said "sorry, can I cook you another egg?" as o handed him the plate of over half the breakfast left. I said "no thankyou" and just turned & went back to my table. Within a minute, the young lad came to our table and handed me a £10 note in refund for my breakfast.
Within a couple of minutes, after my husband finished his bap and our coffees, we left. By this time, we were the only ones in the location (a group of motorbikers had pulled up outside but hadn't yet entered).
I have to say, that for the 2mins we were sat alone in the premises, that was the ideal time for the chef / owner to approach us and apologies for our experience. He made no attempt to do so. In fact, everything was left to the young lad to do. The lack of his presence was very poor indeed.
Pros - 1. Lovely location
2. Nicely presented food.
3. Refund without asking.
Cons - 1. Outdated menus.
2. No sweetener.
3. Hairs in food.
4. Lack of management intervention.
As much as I hate giving a low star rating to places, especially independent businesses, I'm sorry to say, I cannot give our experience anymore than 2 stars.
A a result, we won't recommend this place nor shall we be visiting again. Such a shame.More
