Delightful pub, lovely atmosphere. We visited as a group of nurses out for the first time in ages. Very friendly atmosphere, felt at home and soon made friends with some of the regular diners. Food looked delicious. Next time we will visit for a meal.

Great venue. Good food, good beer (real ale) and very welcoming staff. Excellent lunch with family and keep up the good work Giles. We’ll continue to return. Proper pub!

Cosy , friendly atmosphere.. Plenty of options of food and drink on offer. Good portions, well served. As another reviewer stated... Acoustics can give a very noisy intrusive feeling. Solution.. ear plugs and lip read. .. or stay at home . Overall we would recommend....You will need to book as popular, which says it allMore

Visited for the first time, what an amazing experience, the food and staff were first class. Absolutely heaving on a Monday evening, so that tells you how good it is. Turning people away!!

We were here for an early (6.30) dinner on a Tuesday having read good reviews. First time. The food was indeed good; including meaty scallops well presented on a bed of interesting chorizo salad and then fish and chips - a signature dish - generous...portion of cod, moist and well cooked in a crispy light batter. The problem was the noise level. The bar is central to the restaurant and there were 10 (locals?) enjoying their chats but far too loud. It wasn't possible to have any quiet conversation at the table as you would expect at dinner. It's good to see the pub well supported but given the layout of the room and the limited space it is difficult to see how that problem can be mitigated. A couple of niggles: we were served by a helpful young lady but her training was lacking. She didn't know the difference between a lager and a beer nor between the daily pie (speciality but not available) and fish pie as examples. There was a good 'specials' board - it would have been helpful to see that mentioned on their website as the impression we had was that only sandwiches/baguettes/plowmans are available at lunch. Their Food Standards Agency Hygiene Rating is a 5, the top score - that's important to us - excellent. So overall a disappointment. The high noise level makes this a "no-go" for us and not worth the drive from Petersfield - hence our rating of a 3. A pity; we had high expectations.More

My wife, son & I stopped in on the off chance for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. The roast beef & lamb were lovely with generous portions while my son had sausage and mash which he loved. Will definitely go back next time we...are in Emsworth.More

My husband and I live locally, and have few opportunities to spend time together so today was an ideal opportunity to go for a meal together. It’s a great location, within walking distance which is fantastic! We both ordered steak, slightly less well done than...we normally ask for as it wasn’t brilliant the last time we dined here and thought we could always get it cooked a little more if necessary. Steak arrived, but husbands medium rare was still mooing, that’s fine by me… but my rate, was overdone, and had more gristle than Ghandhis flip flop… (taste was there.. but minuscule amount of edible meat) Husband asked for his to be cooked a bit more, at which point, I explained that mine was unpleasant and really full of gristle… I don’t mind paying for good food, I really don’t, but rudeness when feeding back about your food is uncalled for, and not good customer service. After talking to the barman (?manager) who treated me like a fool, saying sirloin is expected to have fat, (yes I appreciate that, but not an inch and half of bright white gristle on top of the fat) Eventually, after explaining that this really wasn’t good enough and that I just wanted to eat with my husband, another, better steak was produced which was tasty, and really good. Sadly, the experience to go through to get a replacement was arduous and really confrontational. I appreciate that they are a business, but surely customer feedback aids quality improvement? Feed this back to your suppliers! If you get the loyalty and trust of the locals, we will keep coming back, Otherwise, we will spend our hard earned cash elsewhere. I’m sorry, but the flavour wasn’t the problem, your attitude to feedback was. A shame, as it’s a great location and previous feed has been ok.More

Another lovely meal and evening in this very friendly pub. The staff are always very polite and professional, and the food always very good. My only question is why do they charge for soda when it doesn’t cost them anything. In this day and age,...this being offered for nothing would be very much appreciated.More

VISITED THE SOUTH COAST REGION OF BOSHAM, WEST AND EAST WITTERINGS and ended up in EMSWORTH there we found The Blue Bell inn, close to the water and with easy street parking and a car park off street with payment required. This pub is totally...traditional. It is cosy and very hospitable. the staff and landlord were delightful and the menu with additional SPECIALS was attractive and generous. The pricing was totally fair and there was nothing pretentious with the food dishes or wines. Draught real ale well kept, you can't beat this one, and a very jolly busy landlord. a glorious day and celebration of my wife's 80th birthday we were not impressed with The Mill Stream hotel, which was our first attempt for hospitality Here we were told "we don't take walk ins " and you cannot have a coffee . WE WERE SO GLAD!!More

We have tried many places for Sunday lunch all of which have been good but nothing is as good as this place, the roast beef is amazing, topped with a huge home made Yorkshire pudding and lashings of rich gravy. You won't be disappointed.
