We tucked ourselves in round the corner from the bar in a little alcove. Lots of little alcoves and nooks make this a great bar. Good range of drinks available, service fast and friendly. Prices a little on the high side. Due to the atmosphere,...More

recommended by everyone on our mini pub crawl through town. We were not disappointed - enjoying the shared fish platter that was a delicious starter followed by the most succulent belly pork with properly crackled crackling - so full we retired to the sofas to...More

I am pleased, I can't move, I'm sat on my sofa ruminating over what a great lunch I had today. I had roast leg of lamb with all the gubbins. It was amazing. The individual cauliflower cheese was a great touch. For pudding: Coconut pannacotta...More

Fantastic visit, not much we didn’t like. Went on a Sunday evening so other than a few other main courses all they had were three roasts. Didn’t matter at all though as it was one of the best roasts I’ve had for ages. Great selection...More

Whenever I visit Battle, normally a few times a year, I make a point of having lunch at The Chequers. The menu isn't as extensive as one would find in a large metropolitan restaurant but the food is interesting, well cooked, and tasty. Service is...More

We popped in here after visiting Battle Abbey and we were ravenous! We were really pleased that the waitress fit us in, even though it was very busy. We both went for the lamb roast, which came with rosemary sausage meat stuffing. Everything on the...More

We've only been here for lunch, but have never been disappointed. Friendly service, and more than decent food make this a very good value and worth the short walk from the town centre.

There is a car park but I wouldn't say it is large and it could get full at peak times. It is also quite difficult to enter and exit.

Description
At Chequers we aim to provide a new way to dine, a relaxed vintage atmosphere, exciting rustic British food and a classic British bar. With our chefs locally sourcing ingredients from only farms that we have firsthand knowledge of, foraging for those special ingredients that are forgotten on menus today and preparing every dish to let the flavours of each ingredient excite the taste buds exactly how they should. This all mixed with our excellent wine list of classic and some very unusual great wines, and a classic British bar, we hope that once enjoyed you will just want to keep coming back.
