While walking down the Police Bazaar in very cold winter weather of Shillong, we came across Madras Cafe. I was curious to check whether they serve good filter coffee and we decided to try. When we entered the restaurant, we felt that the dosas and...other South Indian dishes looked authentic. We casually asked the person who was attending to us whether Masala Dosas are authentic enough. He threw back the challenge at us saying his Dosas were better than the South Indian dosas served in South India. This was a mouthwatering challenge for us, and we decided to take it. It was worth it. The Dosas were extremely crisp and tasty. Coffee was genuinely good filter coffee as good as what you can get anywhere in Bangalore. The service was very quick and attentive. A genuinely good South Indian restaurant in the heart of Shillong.More

We were seeking directions to a much advertised vegetarian South Indian restaurant in Shillong. It was suggested that we try Madras Cafe for more authentic Tamil taste, albient in average ambience. We accepted the suggestion and were not disappointed. We had masals and sada dosas,...uttapa and filter coffee. The coconut chutney and sambar served with the snacks were 90%+ authentic, as were the uttapa and filter coffee, and the dosas were 70% authentic.More

Still not a bad place for dosas especially on a lazy Sunday afternoon. They get the crisp of a dosa quite well and waiters are attentive.

Once upon a time, Madras Cafe used to give New India Restaurant stiff competition. Considering that the latter has long gone, I was quite disappointed that the quality of food isn't much to write about, though the price may be reasonable for some. The staff...are ever courteous, if one can get them away from the TV. I wouldn't go all the way there for a meal as so many options are now available in town.More

It's a reasonably priced hotel. Not expensive at all. Don't recall the exact price, unfortunately.
