When it's written in the menu TRADITIONAL DOSA( meaning rice dosa) , then why was all the dosa rava? My husband is allergic to sooji. We ate there and he fell sick. Me and my daughter also did not like the dosa. The dosa in...jiva ved, near barnihat is so amazing. Very dissatisfied. Madras cafe is much better.More

Reached this restaurant at 8:00 Am, and it was deserted. Ordered plain dosa, uthappam and tea in this restaurant. did not like the taste of dosa and uthappam. Even sambhar and chutney were not good as per my taste. Tea was Ok. Food is served in...about 10 minutes of ordering. Will not recommend this place for people who are looking for south indian(Tamilian) taste for dosa/uthappam etc.More

It was the night of Jan 01, 2020 and an upmarket restaurant denied us food stating that it is near closing time. In a new city on a cold night, we had almost decided that we will have to make do with some tea/ coffee...and bread for the night as everything around us was closing down. My friend, asked the manager at Jiva South, if they would accommodate 7 more guests for the evening and the two managers - Mr. Rajendra Pantha and Mr. Ajoy Sahu readily said yes. This act of kindness goes a long way in how a guest feels about your establishment and the food. We found that the restaurant offers many kinds of Dosa - Maggie, Pizza, Schezwan etc and obviously the regular ones too. The kids were thrilled to get some different kinds of Dosa. Now if you would like to get into if it was good or not, well like I said, we were happy to get some decent food and that mattered most, that said, the taste of each of these were unique. I had the masala dosa and loved it. Loads of filling :) The filter coffee was great too. However, the best part were the hosts who had just one request, to place all our order at one go. They, however were kind to ask us even later if we wanted some more. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in Shillong.More

Hi all This was the only leftout Jiva Restaurant which I have covered today. I had ordered paneer masala dosa and tea. Dosa was very tasty and tea was awesome. They also prepare supper chatni and sambar. You can also enjoy veg biryani and veg...thali (I will definitely try those next time). ** Service was very quick, nice teamwork 👍 Please note: They don't served wheat items, like roti/tandoori roti.More

The atmospeher was good, ambience was there, the presentation of the food was good. But taste? Looks like if I am not a South Indian, then I would have enjoyed the food better. We ordered a plate steamed idli, but delighted to get mini idli,...since it is a rare thing in Shillong hotels. It came beautifully in a white plate with a cut green on which the 8 mini idlis were plated artistically. Then came the next order, the schezuan noodles dosa, which was crispy masala dosa served with a bowl of schezuan noodles.I liked the noodles garnished with grated cheese. But I could not think of matching noodles with dosa. So I was contented just having the hot gravy noodles. But as it go colder, I realised that it tasted more like pav bhaji masala. Then came the stuff I had ordered for myself, Mysore Plain Dosa, which further disappointed me, since it was not plain dosa but with a stuffing of onion capsicum paste, which also reminded me so much of chinese taste, but with an echo of pavbhaji masala! Mysore plain dosa or Mysoremsala dosa comes normally with a red chutney spread on the dosa, which makes its taste tangy and unique, specially for spice lovers. Now, I am sure that for those who love to experiment with South Indian or for those who have no preference, this hotel is certainly good. But for me, who loves my authentic coconut chutney, rd chutney and sambar, it is a disappointment when it comes to taste. The white chutney was light greenish white without any flavour, just as the sambar too was colorless and tasteless. The red chutney was raw and tasteless. I think the cooks need really good training in how to prepare authentic dishes, instead of just calling the menu by a particular name and then providing something else. Even the filter coffee was not fresh. I wish the Jiva South sincerely reconsiders and reviews my comments and works on the tasty cooking of the side dishes and focus on the authenticity of the recipes, so that we can have a good South Indian restaurant to visit in Shillong.More

We were recommended Jiva South by both our tour guide and by the Jiva restaurant enroute Shillong. I have to say that it was a wonderful decision. We ordered 5 dosas and have to say all five were amazing. I would strongly recommend the paneer...Tikka, Jini and Dilkush dosa. Neha, from the team and Mr Das really gave us excellent service. Worth trying if you want to take a break from the regular North Indian and Chinese food.More

Jiva South is a paradise for good Veg food and south Indian snacks. Very well maintained restaurant. Neat and tidy and great Ambience. The staff is well groomed and polite. Service is great. Food portion is a lot for a single person and can be...shared among 2 people. V tasty and healthy food. Less oily and hygenic kitchen. Over all I would like to rate them a 5 Star and best wishes for high standards in the restaurant business.More
