Loved the choice on draught, mixed it up a bit compared to other locals. Although I got the usual confused reaction from ordering, the chef came out to speak to me about adapting a vegan option and this was greatly appreciated and a tasty pasta dinner for me whilst my meat eating partner was also happy. Thank you!

Decided to have dinner in here after a day walking, food was fantastic. My Husband had the hunters chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it, he had chips with his food and he said they were the best he'd had. I had a steak which was really nice and seasoned well. Price is reasonable.

Expecting a lot more after reading the great reviews. Service was good but everything else was a disappointment. Burnt burger, undercooked onion rings, bland Sunday roast. Vegetables looked like they'd come out of the freezer. Way too expensive for this kind of quality.

Visited with family of 7 and 2 dogs for a meal on Easter Sunday. We booked in advance but had to amend our booking slightly. There was no problem doing this at all. The meals were very reasonably priced and good sized portions. Children's menu had a good variety to suit most tastes. All in all a good family pub... More

Good selection of beers and food. The food was spot on - really tasty and good portions. Just what you want after a good hike around the ridge lines and Mam Tor. Well worth a visit.

Called in for a beer and meal Friday evening. I had the smoked Cumberland Sausages with mustard mash, onion gravy and a giant Yorkshire pudding, my wife had the bbq chicken. Both were delicious and despite being hungry they beat us. Good selection of ales and attentive service. Good atmosphere, dog and child friendly. Will call in again.

Made a reservation shortly after our arrival in Castleton on the Friday evening for a 5.30pm Early Bird Menu. Good selection of meals although we all opted for the fish and chips which was absolutely delicious. With the Early Bird Menu you had to order before 6pm which included your choice of meal and a drink for £10, which we... More

Really nice cosy pub which in certain parts is dog friendly (bonus for us) had the steak, ale and spud pie which was gorgeous, just like what me mum made. Will definitely be calling back soon.

We stopped in for a late lunch on Easter Sunday when it was crowded but the pub is bigger than it looks, and we found a table. Good service and beer. The menu is reasonably big and we both went for the bangers and mash pick n mix option ... choose from 5 types of sausages, 4 types of mash,... More

This is a friendly place serving good food. If you are after great value for a night out then this is for you. Not given five only as I do not think it is the best restaurant in Castleton, however for the price it provides good value.
