we booked a table but there was no need as the place was empty despite it being bank holiday. My friend and I ordered lambs liver which was nice but the mash was dry and served in scoops like school dinners used to be. Our husbands ordered different meals but all the mash was dry. We were sat downstairs and... More
This was our 1st visit to the Peak District and the black boy in belper. What a really lovely little pub. The service was really great, the food was outstanding. We shall be returning before we go home. We spoke to couple who told us about some of the sights to see in the Peak District very friendly atmosphere in... More
I've been here several times and have always found it to be very good. If you go on a Sunday there are normally a choice of roasts (on our recent visit 4) and then there is the main menu. I can particularly recommend the chicken with stilton and bacon sauce which is accompanied by chunky home fried chips and a... More
We visited The Black Boy twice whilst staying locally in our caravan. First time to eat on the Friday night and secondly to watch the rugby (Ireland v England) on the Saturday - no further comment!!!! The pub is a very friendly local and particularly on the Saturday we were made to feel most welcome by the regulars. Food and... More
I eat here on a weekday lunchtime on a regular basis with a group of friends. We are always treated very well both at the bar and in the restaurant which has now been extended. The menu is comprehensive and reasonable value in my view. My favourite is the fish and chips which can be cod/haddock and small/medium/large.
A very good dining experience on a busy Wednesday night. The restaurant has changed considerably since my last visit some years ago and is a big improvement. The service was excellent and the food quality and quantity was very good for a very reasonable price. We were a party of four and chose three very different meals all of which... More
We needed a quick lunch from a a local pub and this was on our doorstep. The menu was as expected and the service was fantastic, the staff were so very friendly and happy to adapt the menu to our dietry needs. We had the large fish and chips which was a whale of a fish and extremely well cooked.... More
First impressions are very good, well laid out area around quite a small bar with good decoration giving you the impression of a traditional pub with a good range of beers/ales to choose from. Restaurant is split into two areas, both well decorated and well laid out. Menu is not over complicated and has a varied choice with a specials... More
This used to be a nice place to eat Sunday lunch but unfortunately a recent visit was a disappointment. Served on cold plates with very basic vegetables, cabbage and carrots with half a roast potato cold stuffing it was certainly not value for money. Deserts were again small portions and the custard had a skin on it. At £ 11 .75... More
