We stopped off here whilst on our way to Chester and had a fantastic Sunday lunch - they give you a whole chicken each! It was really good quality and was a welcome break. We also stopped on the way back and had a really nice meal from the menu, certainly worth stopping off for.

Where do I start. The information on the website was incorrect, the evening menu started at 6pm and not 5pm as advertised. The staff were uninterested and the lunch menu was a crumpled up piece of A4 paper.......how difficult is it to laminate? The food was awful. The hunters chicken had obviously been microwaved and was sitting in a tasteless... More

Lovely pub next to the canal. Friendly staff, nice beer. Warm, comfortable bar and dog friendly. Shame about the campsite. We booked for three nights over Easter cost £100. Bins overflowing on arrival, the grass not cut, one ladies toilet now working (only 2) Untidy builders waste around the waste amenities block. The chemical waste was too high and needed... More

I took my mother there last week, asked for the menu which was printed on a A4 piece of paper, the menus was very poor and pricey, then waited at the bar for 15mins to order a drink then decided enough was enough told the lad behind the bar that the service was disappointing at which he just looked at... Lucky dip! Arrived on a lovely late Sunday afternoon, weather had been well forecast! Roast carvery looked and smelled excellent, however NO cask 🍺 beer, lady behind bar stated they had been unexpectedly busy? Another enquiry regarding the veggie option was met with: it's a 'veggie thingy something' !!!! Nice décor, but to survive when places are closing hand over... More

Decided to go there for dinner on Monday evening. Because it was Monday checked their website first to ensure they were serving food, which listed that on a Monday evening food was served from 5.00 to 8.30 pm. We travelled for half an hour to get there and arrived just before 5.30pm. Not only weren't they serving food but it... More

Lovely pub with nice outside space, swings, slide and campsite too. Good range of drink and food and friendly service. Pool table. Food on the pricey side

Been this place many times in the past. What has happened to it? Carvery very expensive think it's just gone up a lot? Hardly any menu choices for kids either. Told 'sorry ran out of this and none of that' They really should be getting their act together by now. We had heard this lovely place was closed so intrigued... More

Visited last Sunday for a buffet lunch. Have been here many times and its always been very good. This day the beef was disgusting. We each had three small slices, fat and gristle were the thickest part of the meat. The meat was so tough you would not cut it (what meat there was). The chef served us so he... More

Great food. The waitress was lovely but needed prompting - otherwise I'd have given 5 stars. The restaurant is one of those where you go to bar go place an order which is fine. But we had to ask for menu and the specials board was out of date. Also we were not offered sauces to go with meal. However... More

Description
The Shady Oak is a newly refurbished country free house under the ownership of a family business. The pub is situated on the side of the Shropshire Union Canal, with beautiful views of Beeston and Peckforton Castle from our large beer garden. We serve food daily, as well as a wide range of lagers, ciders, traditional ales, wines and tea and coffees. The Shady Oak also has a campsite on the grounds, with hardstanding pitches for caravans and many pitches for tents, with the option of electric hook up on every pitch as well as a well maintained shower block and washing facilities. In the pub, we allow dogs up in our 'top bar' to allow a separate area for those who may wish to drink/dine with their canine friends.
