Fantastic, will be back

We decided to try Hickory's on New Year's Eve and booked a table for lunch. So glad we did as it was mad busy when we arrived. We were seated immediately and a few minutes passed until our server arrived with popcorn and poured us a glass of water. This was our first ever visit so we enjoyed just taking in the atmosphere while we waited for the starters. The food was excellent, tasty and plentiful. We had a bit of a wait for both courses but the place was full and the staff were doing their best to see to everyone. I was kind of surprised no one came to ask if we wanted another drink but I was able to view the bar area from where I was seated and he was swamped. Overall I enjoyed the experience. I will return but not during a holiday period. If you are thinking about visiting I would book a table as they were turning people away when we went

Amazing service!

Visited bank hol Sunday for birthday breakfast with some pals. Best thing for me was the service, our waitress was fantastic a real asset to you something I think is really important in making the dining experience amazing which she really succeeded in (really sorry I didn’t catch her name). First time I had visited for breakfast/ brunch always been for lunch or dinner in the past. I had the hickories full breakfast and enjoyed it, only constructive feedback I would say Is that the egg was over cooked and could have a few more beans etc to bulk it out a bit more for the price. I wasn’t a fan of the waffle part that replaces toast, too sweet for me on a breakfast but that’s just personal preference. Overall great and will deffo be returning.

Amazing Place, Amazing Food & Amazing Staff

I visited Hickory’s Smokehouse last night with my wife for her birthday. Never been before so wasn’t sure what to expect. The night was absolutely amazing. We cannot thank the staff there enough for making the night so special for my wife. We arrived and were led to a table and a small plaque was placed on the table saying Happy Birthday. We ordered drinks and because it was my wife’s birthday, she was given a drink on the house. Food was amazing, we both had the Go Big Or Go Home Burger with extra mushrooms and extra slaw. The food was to die for, it was delicious. Both of our boards went back empty. While we were eating one of the managers Ryan came over and asked whose birthday it was and we explained that it was my wife’s. He wished her a happy birthday and asked if we were ok for drinks. I said that I like bitter but there was none on the menu and he replied that they were updating the menu and had some bitter in the back called UBU. I tried one of those and it was delicious. I ordered a dessert for myself and when it came to the table there was a smaller one with a sparkler in it on a board especially for my wife. Also, on the board was stencilled Happy Birthday in icing sugar or something similar. Just the small touches here and there made the night so special for my wife. We got talking to another one of the managers Toby who explained how it was difficult for them all when they were closed during lock down and that this was the last of the Hickory’s to re-open. He said that he was floating around all the Hickory’s making sure that they were all running as they should and to ensure they kept up their good standards. One last mention is for a young lady called Bex. Every time I saw her, she had a massive smile on her face. She looked like she was really happy with her job. We got chatting to her and she said she was on furlough from her normal job and was doing this to help out. The food, staff and ambience of the place was absolutely amazing. I can’t praise it up enough. For my wife to say that she has had an amazing birthday said it all for me. Thank you everyone at Hickory’s for making my wife’s birthday such a special night. We will be going back there for hopefully another amazing time. Thank you again for everything.

Understaffed, badly managed and lukewarm food today

We came as a group of 9 with 2 young children. We waited 20 minutes at the bar for a coffee and no one took a drinks order. We were eventually shown to our table with no drink and had to ask to be served a drink. The server poured us half a glass of water each and we had to ask for other drinks. We were given one small bag of popcorn with a ten minute wait for a second bag. It took far too long to order our food which took an absolute age to come. The £20 American steak was mediocre - we’ve had better steaks from Aldi! The bird & beast burger was luke warm and we had to send it back. It wasn’t brill second time round either. The macaroni cheese was beautiful. The chicken skewers were lovely. The staff took so long to clear the table and take the desserts order that the kids went stir crazy bored. I took them to the little cinema which was playing Toy Story in a foreign language - I kid you not. We assumed they were short staffed so we asked the server, but all their staff were in - it was just poorly managed with too few staff who were incredibly slow. No one offered us drinks throughout the meal either. I went a couple of months ago and the restaurant was full, and the service was fast and courteous and fabulous & delicious. It’s gone totally downhill & I have no plans to return. Such a shame.

Been to Hickory’s a few times now, again tonight at the date of writing this review.. it’s my step sons favourite place to eat tbh.. Portions at this place at large, and food is always well presented, our bill for 4 starters and 4 mains plus a side of gargantuan onion rings, 3 pints and 3 cokes was £114. The food quality is good, our steaks were 8/9 out of 10 but... the service is poor. Arrived at 550pm. Say straight down, drinks served at 615pm, they were not that busy, food ordered at 635pm, starters came quick tbh, but main tool an age, and when we had finished, a server collected a couple of the plates, then nothing for 25 minutes. Had to wait also for the bill, which is a shame as food alone I would give it 8/10, throw in the service, 5-6/10...

Was Supper exited to try out this smoke house for my birthday. First impressions, beautiful place loverly vibe and decor. Greeted with Popcorn! 🍿Great! Booked a table for 20:15 , we waited an extra 40 minuets to be seated. The gent said he would offer a free round of drinks due to the table delay, we never received a round of drinks. Finally we was seated. Again, the seating area was very pleasant with a nice vibe. We had starters and mains, starters went down a treat with the Frickles being the star of the show! Starters and mains all arrived in good timing nice and hot. Me and my brother ordered the share platter for two. We was disappointed to say the least, As the most foul taste of fire lighters (propane) was left lingering in my mouth..my brother also agreed there was a very off putting taste to the Smoked meats, I approached a waiter to question the smoking method used as I was rather put of by this taste, for the young lady to tell me she had no idea or has no clue of how the meat is smoked, weather this was already smoked from the suppliers or smoked on site, she couldn’t tell me. The food was taken back and the Waiter told me that the on shift manager would be with us in a moment to deal with the complaint, the manager took the food of the bill. There was no offer of another meal or anything to replace the meal, it was just removed from the bill and we received an apology, so we was left rather hungry. I ordered a pudding, But After the complaint was raised with staff, the customer service changed. My pudding was dumped on the table as the waiter rushed past to serve other tables. We noticed tables being celebrated as there were a few birthdays in, so I was pretty sad as every one wants to feel special on there birthday.(no matter how old hey!) The pudding was the best thing I ate all night, even though there was no ‘crunchy’ bits as shown on the sites pictures. This was a very hit and miss night to say the least, with some positives, and a lot of negative for the first visit. Would like to give this place another try but The bill did not reflect the evening we had And overall not worth the 40 minuet travel.

Call this American style food ?

My mother lives in Tampa Florida and every time l go over there l experience American style southern cuisine.If l took what was put on our table over there,they would laugh and reject it in many diners. I would have been better having a Burger King big meal. The burger was tasteless and overdone a a squashed bun The fries were over salted to make you drink more The pulled pork was definitely pulled alright. I would have given the hot dog to my dog for dinner. Like all American drinks,put loads of ice in and minimum coke to make it look big. I asked for little ice and got a glass full. The only saving grace was good polite service from the server without being bothered every 5 mins like American waitresses do. This cover will never get another visit !

Lovely food but service could use improvement

We were staying locally in Crewe Hall and being fans of American food were delighted to find Hickorys was only a ten minute drive from our hotel. We booked a table earlier that day to ensure we could be seated. On arrival, we were asked to wait in the bar as our table wasn't ready. This wasn't a problem but it was clear that staff were struggling to keep up with bookings as the bar was full of other customers also waiting for their tables. We waited ten or so minutes before being shown to our table. We ordered chicken and waffles, ribs and a side of mac n cheese. The food was lovely, but expensive for what it was. Portions were generous though and food was lovely and hot. Unfortunately we found it difficult to get any more drinks as it was hard trying to get the attention of the waitresses who were too busy running around. When we did finally manage to catch someone's eye, we placed a drinks order and heard nothing for 15 minutes. When our food arrived we mentioned this to our server who said she would follow this up, another long wait and failed attempts at catching the waitresses attention, a waitress arrived with our drinks. Unsure if this was possibly due to the restaurant being busy but it was a shame as we both thought the food was lovely.

Food is good. Service is terrible.

We went to here earlier and whilst the food was nice. The service really let it down as the waiting on staff were rushing around. We had to keep catching the eye of staff to place an order etc etc. This is despite being placed close to the kitchen where staff were passing very regularly. Whilst we had booked a table, the long long pause when we arrived - given with the table we were eventually given, made it seem like they had forgotten. This was our first visit and all in all I was a little disappointed,the food was nice but the poor service (especially given the price of food) would not make me rush back. We were also charged £7.55 for a small red wine and this really seemed quite a lot.

Me and my partner visited here last night. We had a table booked for 6:30 are table was not ready and we were made to wait by the bar for half an hour. I did not mind waiting by the bar but the football was on and there was groups of young lads being very loud. It seemed we had been forgotten about. Someone finally came over saying a table STILL was not ready nearly after 45 minutes of waiting around. They then asked if we wanted to sit there I said no as the tables were to small to even eat your meal on. We then finally got taken to our table to be told we were sitting outside! Yes we were under shelter but it was absolutely freezing and not only that it was the smoking area for people to have a cigarette. On many occasions people were smoking next to me while I was eating. This would be a lovely idea a place to eat in the SUMMER not the middle of October as it was throwing it down with rain. I believe if I book a table for a certain time the table should be ready... I also believe you should have a option to sit outside. I will not be visiting again.

We pre book and were seated quickly, the person seating us spoke so quickly and left, and as we could not understand what she had said, we waited to be served, which wasn’t long and our food/drinks arrived quickly, the food was amazing. Half way through our meals, a member of staff came up to me and said have you finished your meal, clearly I hadn’t, as there was still food on my food board and neither had my friend. Surely it’s good practice to wait until each person at a table has finished eating before being asked, perhaps there still being food and drink on the table would an indication! Having finished our main meal, my friend had a dessert, again this arrived quickly, we then asked for the bill. We were given the bill to view but after sometime no one got back to us, the young lady who had asked us previously if we had finished eating, came to our table, we asked to pay the bill, she advised she wasn’t allowed to handle money but did fetch someone who could, we paid and left. If members are staff are new, I assume they would have some basic training on how to wait on at tables, it would appear to us that this young person hadn’t.

Always Great Food But Some Familiar Favourites Vanishing Off the Menu

I think i've been to this Hickory's at least 50 times now minimum as it's always our go to place for smokehouse food whenever we come back from a review trip. Every meal is always spot on and the closest smokehouse food you can get to the authentic Texas / Kansas style of ribs, wings etc What I have noticed is that slowly rather delicious favourites are being taken off the menu which is a real shame. Homicide wings were removed which were genuinely lovely, then the flat iron steak vanished, the chilli con carne was one of the first to go and whilst the menu is still superb it does seem to be getting smaller every time we go and the portion size with it. When we visited on opening day a full sized platter for one was intimidating to look at it, it was absolutely huge and instantly my arteries quivered in fear just staring at it but now it's a much smaller platter for the same amount of money. Always great service, the Super Bowl nights are great, the atmosphere is wonderful but bring back some of the older dishes please! Also, avoid the beans side-dish. It always feels like I'm drinking half a bottle of vinegar with those things and if you're feeling brave and think a red chilli won't bother you, think again! I've been doing chilli challenges for years now and I have absolutely no idea what kind of chilli's Hickory's use but the humble red chilli will absolutely have you weeping in your booth or seat. Also we came today and the place was empty yet three groups of people were sat on three tables right next to each other (less than 1M gap) not exactly the best thing to do right now. We were cool with it but I know others would be annoyed with that especially considering the entire place was empty and three seperate groups were sat cramped together.

Excellent visit, felt very welcome!

Thankyou to Hickory's, Crewe staff team who made me feel very welcome. I was a solo diner as staying nearby for work. The host sat me at an excellent location able to see the kitchen area and I felt very much part of the atmosphere here. The menu looked amazing and the waitress helped me choose between many options, I honestly wanted them all, but settled for the brisket which although a little fatty (-1 for quality here) was absolutely perfectly cooked. The team then suggested a few different cocktails to try which were all amazingly presented and wonderful tastes too. Thankyou very much!

Great food. Felt sorry for the staff

Visited on Saturday, the food was fantastic in terms of portion size and the first manager that welcomed us was great offered us a taste of the brisket with it being our first visit. Drinks order taken swiftly and food order taken in good time. However based on one of the managers and the way he spoke to the staff it’s left me unsure if I would return. Maybe it’s where we were sat round the back near the kitchen area. I can see this is a busy restaurant but I did feel sorry for some of the staff waiting on. On the other hand there was Staff rolling their eyes at management orders etc. Again the food was great and fairly priced. The lady that served us couldn’t do enough for us.

Mixed experience but lovely food!

Visited for the 1st time today and the food did not disappoint. Staff very friendly however experience completely ruined as placed on a very small 2 person table ( I was with my partner and our young child), ordered a platter to share and a kids meal. Food arrived and whilst lovely, the server rammed it all on our small table and when not everything would not fit he placed some bits on a chair?! Would have been nicer if they could have asked us if we would like to move to a bigger table as there was some available near us. After 30 mins of dropped forks and knives and also knocking things over, we called it quits and asked for the rest of our meal to be bagged up so we could take it away. Despite good food, we dont think we would go back due to the spoiled experience.
