This restaurant has such potential based on location and waiters…..but it is time for a new chef. Fish tacos ordered were under cooked. Tempura batter should be crisp and golden. Was soggy and fish was also soggy. French fries could also have used another minute...or two in the fryer. My husband had the angus burger and thought it was alright. Nothing spectacular. The wine was good but so overpriced. The most expensive meal we have had on half moon bay and def one of the worst.More

We went there last night for dinner, it's very pretty eating right on the sandy beach. We both ordered the coconut shrimp and it was a disappointment considering how expensive it was (it was overpriced). The shrimp was overcooked and the coconut was burned, so...we didn't enjoy it sadly. We were there 2 years ago and it was absolutely delicious, so things have definitely changed. As well, the music they were playing (CCR) was awful. We are in Mexico, not a U.S. bar. It really spoiled our evening. I can honestly say though, the margueritas are still the best! That has not changed, thank goodness. We're not going to go back because they're too overpriced now.More

The prices are high, but it was to be our splurge night, you don’t mind paying for a good meal. It was a huge disappointment, I ordered fish of the day with clams & shrimp. The fish was over cooked & bland as was the...sauce it was in, the 3 bland were the weirdest, stringy things the one shrimp was ok, 2 baby potatoes tasted good but were cold, this underwhelming meal was $520 pesos! The $180 peso margarita was average. The venue was nice, staff indifferent. My companions had burgers they said were ok, st least the portion was large. The others had sushi they said was good, very pretty presentation, but not as good as the place at home (inland…in the mountains…population <10,000. Do all in all can mot recommend this place, will not go back. Try Turtle Bay Cafe & Bakery, way better!More

We were hoping for a better turnout but out of our 4 orders (2 appetizers and 2 main courses) none of them were edible. We ordered the shrimp and stuffed poblano for starters. Apparently the best way to ruin a deep fried Shrimp is to...undercook it! The pepper was stuffed with plantains which made it unpleasantly sweet. For entree, the bone marrow was cold and the steak tartare was more of an onion tartare. I wonder if chef had called in sick! The kitchen staff overall did an amazing job in ruing all our orders one after another. Respectfully we paid the bill and enjoyed our home made peanut butter sandwich at our place.More

My wife and I had two dinners at La Lunita - once by ourselves and once with a large group of friends. The menu is very eclectic with an unusual mix of ingredients. The food overall was very tasty. However, stay away from the Yellow...Fin Tuna. The servings had thin hard white/silvery fascia running through it. The featured mezcal margarita had very little mezcal and cost $14 USD. Stick to the traditional margarita ($9 USD). If you decide to eat at La Lunita, select from the unusual menu items, some are excellent. Good or bad it will be an expensive experience.More

Best food in Akumal that we could find. Their shrimp croquettes were yummy. Fish tacos were delicious. Everything we ordered I would order again. Can't go wrong here.

We made reservations in the evening. Beautiful terrace on the beach.I had coconut shrimp and of the day mahi-mahi and my wife had crusted tuna . Others in our group had the squid mahi-mahi shrimp appetizer pork mole. You won’t leave hungry. We saw some...burgers from another group and they looked awesome too. All of our food was prepared excellently. I wish I would have had room for dessert. This place is small and kid of hard to find especially at night but our cab driver knew where to go. Well worth the journey!More

Five days in Akumal and ate here twice. Excellent flavors, traditional Mexican dishes with a sophisticated touch. Drinks are delicious (try the Margarita Caribe) and the service top.

We were staying in a condo above this restaurant and ventured out to try others, but always came back to La Lunita. Every other place was a disappointment by comparison. The food was incredible. Every dish was cooked to perfection. Every flavor was amazing. The...cocktails were also outstanding. Try the tuna medallions, the salmon, the grilled shrimp, or the paella. You can't go wrong here. Your only mistake will be not to try it.More

We had dinner here because of the great reviews. We were not disappointed. The views are a perfect backdrop to outstanding food. There are not just vegan options - there are thoughtful, perfectly paired and well executed choices. The service was attentive, helpful and friendly....Creative cocktails complete the experience. If you or someone in your group is vegan and you are in Akumal - this is a MUST stop, maybe even a multiple stop during your stay. See photos for vegan ceviche, vegan mushroom crochets and non-vegan paella (paella can also be made vegan…)More

Everything about this restaurant was top notch. I'm fairly picky and I can't find a thing to fault. My husband and I were in Mexico for 8 days and La Lanuta had the best food and service. My only regret is that we went there...on our last night. If I had only known. We started with the Golden Margarita which were perfectly made. Not watered down with a lot of sugar water like some of them we had. Then came the homemade bread with some type of hummus (I think) and a delicious habanero sauce which the waiter took the time to explain to us how it was prepared, which we really appreciated. I'm really sorry that I didn't get the waiter's name because he was fantastic and really made the experience that much better. For a main course, I had the salmon and my husband had the fresh catch of the day - both wonderful. We were craving vegetables so the waiter had them bring us a large plate of delicious, perfectly grilled vegetables that weren't even on the menu. The dessert that we had was amazing. I can't remember what it was called, but the base was a ginger, chocolatey thing that was topped with a scoop of habanero ice cream. The description sounds strange, but it was absolutely delicious. If you are staying anywhere near Akumal, you must try this restaurant.More
