El Bar Co. is a special "Happening" Bar/Club/Restaurant that is frequented by Locals, Snowbirds, Temporals & Permanente's. I so enjoyed my time there on Sundays as I can dance to the sounds of VERY COOL BLUES & On occasion, some really fabulous Jazz. It's a...More

Don't take the 3 star rating as a negative. It was bar food with hamburgers and fries, nothing special. Nice place to hang out for the music if you want.

STAY AWAY! Fortunately there are MANY MANY more desirable places to go in the Ajijic/Chapala area. The only positive thing I can say about this bar is that they have cervesa. Go ANYWHERE else to eat and drink. Be forewarned.

We stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon and were not even sure the place was open. We had hoped for sushi but it appeared to be closed. My husband ordered the burger which was very good except for the plastic cheese like in the states....More

Brandon and Kat make the roof great; friendly, welcoming, nice people always there. lower level is more intimate (a bit dingy) while being too big for the small crowd. wait staff is good, food is good, sushi is GREAT (actually, we had the sashimi)

I was GRANDPAcking in Ajijic for a week. The Barco was the nearest pub to where i was staying ... so I popped down a few times. They have a small 'afternoon crowd' that seem to meet there regularly for a 'quiet one' between 3pm...More

Meeting here to party has always been enjoyable, but the meals have always disappointed. On St. Pattys day, for instance, I ordered corned beef and cabbage, a favorite of mine, it was dry, tasteless, totally inedible.

If you come to Ajijic Mexico, next to Lake Chapala, one of the oldest and nicest cities, has a gringo bar called El Bar Co. Carlos Pantajo bought and old building and built his bar/restaurant and has been building, redesigning and recreating his bar/restaurant for the past 17 years. Everything you see is his creation and having built 11 restaurants myself, he has done an excellent job. A beautiful Mexican atmosphere. Ask to see his underground wine cellar in the courtyard, with an excellent selections of wines.Carlos, who’s hobby was/is cooking has an excellent menu for traditional International cuisine or sea food in a nice open air, patio restaurant. However, upfront he has an excellent sushi bar. So while you are mixing cuisine’s, you can enjoy 20 peso cervezas all day long while watching the game on a 50” TV’s.You have your choice of restaurant seating, bar seating with a full array of liquors and cervezas, lounge seating or patio seating. Monday nights, Barco is pack with local gringos enjoying the Monday night jam session. On Saturday nights, the Bryan James Band packs the house and never a cover charge.Carlos speaks fluent English and will gladly answer any question you have about the area. You can’t go wrong at El Bar Co when in Ajijic and "Bingo" the house dog will welcome you, so bring yours.
