As a resident of Tanunda I have loved this restaurant for years but something has changed. Mains are all around $40 and you really have no options for paying less as the tasting plates look very small when described on the menu. I ordered pork belly and out come a large plate with a long strip of pork belly cut... More

Some of our courses were excellent and the desserts were exceptional. Others were over flavoured - the scallops could have been anything under the dukkah and was very disappointing.

Had the pleasure of eating here last weekend. Sat outside on the veranda and enjoyed the evening weather. Food was top notch. Bread with oil, while basic, was wonderful. Great wine list. Sampled ALL of the sides. Really impressed with the quality.

I dined with a group, having dined many times before, and had aways been happy with the service and produce.....until now. Firstly, the staff pointed out our group had lessened our original booked numbers, out of our control, yet inconvenient for them. Granted, but as I said, I'm not prepared to ask my fellow diners to attend at gun point!!... More

Great service and a lovely venue, the front of the restaurant is stunning. Unfortunately this is where the high ended. Food was over seasoned...as a salt lover, I was surprised. I ordered the scallops but under all the dukkah the flavour of the juicy scallop was overpowered. Similarly, my steak was unevenly cooked. Dessert was lovely. I recommend the chocolate... More

Nice location good service but small mains and limited options. Food was too oily as well but steak was cooked correctly

My husband treated me to a special night out! He booked an outside table which created a beautiful atmosphere. We ordered and we're very surprised by the size of the meal, taste factor- amazing. The cost is up there, but for what we got for our money we were more than happy!

The restaurant was recommended, but it was disappointing. Almost empty, but service was very slow - we had to ask repeatedly. The food was very average.

Found menu somewhat limited and pretty much unchanged from our visit a decade previously. Service competent and friendly and a lovely setting in the old house but not a stand out.

The bread and house olive oil were the highlight of our night. So delicious. My pork was so salty it was borderline inedible. If it wasn't the end of the night and I wasn't starving and exhausted after a full day, I would have sent it back. My husband's steak was ok. I think we just got unlucky as the... More

Description
THE STORY BEHIND 1918
The Great War was drawing to a close when Friedrich Carl Gottleib Wallent put the finishing touches to his fine home in Murray Street, by chiseling the date in the foundation stone by the front door. His son Morris later became the mayor of Tanunda and took over the family home. More than 70 years later in 1992, an enterprising group of locals turned the proud Wallent home into the Barossa's first bistro grill - a friendly and generous place where Barossa winemakers could entertain their guests and visitors could relax after a hard day's wine tasting.

In 1998 Tanya and Sid King visited 1918 as guests 17 years later, in 2015 the opportunity arose for The King Family to be the new custodians of this fine home of Barossa Hospitality.

They are passionate about serving fresh, seasonally-inspired cuisine, accompanied by carefully selected wines from the Barossa's best and iconic Australian and International wineries - but guests are also welcome to bring their own special bottle. What you'll also find is a youthful passion and buzz, modern Australian tastes and flavours that are borrowed from Asia and the Middle East, and a genuine willingness to please.
