I went here during my lunch hour and only had 40 minutes, as I needed ten minutes to walk either way. After I told the hostess about my time limit, she was very helpful - the food arrived quickly and the extremely nice and helpful waitress brought the check along with the food. The slowest part was the payment process;... More

We have been going to Side Street for at least 30 years. In fact, we held both my and my wife's 50th birthdays there for Sunday lunch. Mary Lou has catered family celebrations (last minute deviled eggs), and we have never been disappointed. No, it is is not fancy, but get past the step up screen door lock gender neutral... More

Today was the walking tour of historic homes in Oakwood and that should have been a reason to staff up but there were only two servers in the entire restaurant. We (a party of three) arrived around noon and were told that there was a 15-20 minute wait; it was much longer. During the time we waited we observed group... More

I am particularly drawn to places only locals know about. You would need to be a local to find this Side Street. The chicken salad was amazing!!! It is not something I generally order out, but this was spectacular!! Not your average sandwich shop from white tablecloths, fine art on the walls and sprouts on the sandwich. Others in our... More

Very good food in a location you must know it is there. Second visit for us. Very busy with the local trade but we were not waiting too long considering how popular it seems to be. Great selection of sandwiched and salads.

I have been going to Side Street ever since I started working and living in the Oakwood community area. It is my favorite spot for lunch with friends and co-workers. I love the location, the decor, and the food. The corn and bean salad is my favorite side. The names of the sandwiches are entertaining. I am partial to the... More

When we were there it was calm and quiet which is different than most other restaurants in downtown Raleigh. Parking was easy to find. Our food was very good. They have very good homemade soups, sandwiches, quiche and desserts. We enjoyed meeting and talking to Mary Lou. It is in what I think is the oldest and most historic neighborhood... More

If you want a good, fresh sandwich for lunch this is the place to go! It's an old house in the middle of Oakwood so be on the lookout for it. It's right on the corner. Streetside parking right out front has never presented a problem. They have all kinds of unique selections from the Let's Horse Around (roast beef),... More

I love eating at Side Street. Portions are just right and the options are good. II can ed in historic always find something, a sandwich, salad or quiche, that suites my mood and appetite. This locally owned gem is located in historic Oak Wood and is worth the effort to get to. Don't expect "run of the mill" food you'd... More
