This place is the best restaurant in Raleigh, hands down. It is a bit pricey for everyday dining, so we only come for special occasions, but we are NEVER disappointed. Frankly, plenty of restaurants charge the same without this quality, especially at the beaches. There are affordable wines, too. My husband even eats things he doesn't like here -- because... More

I was in Raleigh for 'Art in the Carolinas' and found this GREAT restaurant! It is a reason to go to Raleigh. We ate downstairs their brick walled pub and returned two nights later. They have a divine wait staff and great menu offerings. Enjoy! If an artist, do take in the once a year learning event 'Art in the... More

The presentation, service and presentation were superb. The good left both of us wanting. The ribeye was average and was not special in any way. Rather bland. Wife had salmon that was again average nothing to scintillate the taste buds. The chocolate cake was dry.

Good FOOD, BUT A BIT PRICEY. The Chef IS A PRIMA DONNA, really off the edge. But I have been several times and will go again!

Why would you put sweetbreads together with sea scallops and pork rind on a chicken parmigiana, as the dinner menu was for Tuesday 11/1/16. It just doesn't make any sense. Whatever the chef was trying to accomplish the members in my party were left to figure out just what was going on in the kitchen. Otherwise its a warm inviting... More

All of our food was delicious the appetizers of the tuna tartar and the soup de jour were so tasty. They had a special of filet minion that melted in you mouth. We to go to Second Empire a couple of times a year for a special night out with friends. We usually eat downstairs in the Tavern because it's a little less formal and because you can order from the Upstairs menu or the Tavern menu. Our waiter was "spot on" and our food was fantastic. Great wine list that's reasonably... More

It was my extreme pleasure to entertain a group of 5 business guests from Southern California. It was their first time in North Carolina and in Raleigh. After a short tour of downtown, we went for drinks and dinner at Second Empire. We were fortunate to get a reservation for our group and elected to eat in the Tavern downstairs.... More

We had a very nice experience dining in the main dining room. We had 3 servers tending to our every need, so service was great. It was a bit odd when we were asked if we would prefer "silent service," I guess some want their servers to be seen but not heard. We started off with the tuna tartar which... More
