Very popular place for couples, groups and families. The early bird special (20% discount is a draw too!). Popular for destination wedding parties. This restaurant can handle a crowd! Shortly before opening a queue forms. Servers hand out numbered beepers so that you can find a bench and enjoy the view of the Sound. the staff can also efficiently handle... More

Food is fabulous! But when I left my jacket there and came back to look for it, the owner treated us like we were idiots! No food is good enough to overcome rudeness. There are way too many wonderful places to eat in the Nags Head area

Awesome view of sound, especially at sunset. Started with crab legs appetizer, salad, and she-crab soup; the she-crab soup was full of crab, creamy, delicious. Entrees included seafood combinations, broiled and fried, and shrimp and scallop au gratin. All were excellent, and service top notch and attentive. Menu offers great variety and they have 5 fish items that can be... More

We have been to Nags Head many times but never been to Tale of the Whale until this past weekend attending a rehearsal dinner. The food was remarkable. The tuna was delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. We will definitlely go to Tale of the Whale during our trip next year.

The food here is excellent. The hot crab dip and scallops are awesome! The plates were around $25-$30 each, but that seemed to be normal for the area.

Don't let the white linen and black napkins fool you. It is a comfortable place to go in shorts. Great views of the sound. They do not have dinner tables outside. Little on the expensive side for me.

We went to Tale of the Whale for our anniversary. My daughter accompanied us. My husband ordered the prime rib medium rare and I ordered the seafood pasta with shrimp and scallops/white sauce. My daughter ordered off of the kids menu and had popcorn shrimp. My husband's prime rib was tough and extremely rare. Definitely not medium rare. My pasta... More

We discovered this restaurant over 15 years ago based on their 4pm 20% off advertising and have made it a point to eat there ever since. The food and service are consistently exceptional and combined with a serene waterfront location it makes it an extraordinary experience every time. My children were literally raised on the expectation of attending this restaurant... More

This was the best meal we had during our vacation at the Outer Banks. We arrived early and was seated overlooking the water. We actually saw a dolphin from our window! The she-crab soup was the best we had and we tried it at every restaurant that we went to. The seafood was fresh and delicious. We will definitely come... More
