We were a party of four on a Friday evening, when the restaurant was busy, and had a wonderful meal. Each dish was perfectly conceived and prepared and the service was marvelous. The Asian elements in the dishes were pronounced without being precious. One can often tell from the vibe of a restaurant whether regular customers have confidence that things... More

This restaurant is a bit special for my wife and I, as we tend to go on special occassions. I have had several meals here and they all have been excellent. The service is excellent. The atmosphere of the restaurant is good, not great; but that is not what I really look for in a restaurant. As long as the... More

The Lantern is an excellent restaurant that does not serve "run of the mill" food. The menu is always interesting with an unusual twist. It is expensive but well worth the cost. It has an impressive and changing wine list. The waiters are very knowledgable and interested in making your dining the best experience possible.

Went with a party of folks from work after a meeting with US team. There was a separate room booked which had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Welcomed with a nice glass of local (well US) wine. The meal was a mixture of starters, too many yo recall but the lentil dish was lovely as was the soft shell crab. The... More

My girlfriend and I went here in May 2014. The atmosphere was romantic with candles on the tables offering soft lighting. The bathroom had the same intimate feel with candles and aromatherapy. The downside was the fact that the seating was tight. It felt a bit cramped. As for the food, the appetizer was OK. We had the Thai seafood... More

We loved our dinner at Lantern!! Service was first class... We started with chaat ...interesting and deliciois! Also had the asparagus spring rolls. The pork was amazing and I had a whole fish with ginger and jasmine rise The Italian rose was perfect. And the coconut cake for dessert was divine!! We can't wait to return!!!

The food is unusual-different...always good. Not a cheap dinner-place, but more of a place one would go for a special night out for dinner, or for once-a-month dinner-out. I highly recommend it.

This was my second visit to Lantern and my impressions were the same. Lantern has a lot of buzz locally and has won some regional awards. Given those accolades, I found it disappointing. The food quality is good and nicely presented. It is a fusion restaurant so I had mushroom dumplings and then steak. The steak was well prepared, the... More

My husband, daughter and I took a friend for her birthday, so we treated the evening like a special occasion. We all dressed up and went with high expectations that were easily met. We had 3 appetizers and 2 main dishes between the 4 of us and it was plenty. My husband always wants the dumplings that I thought were... More

This is my favorite restaurant in Chapel Hill, and is clearly the best Asian in town. It is Asian fusion with local ingredients and flair. Don't miss the funky bar in the back, where you can get some unusual cocktails and access the full food menu as well and sit at the bar tables.
