We went here for our 40th anniversary and it was a superb experience in every way. For dinner there’s are two basic options, 4 or 5 courses. We went for 5. For first we had crab and oysters. For 2nd we had scallop and lobster,...More
We celebrated our 25th here and they were ever so accommodating. We had the four course with wine pairings and it was just fabulous. Presentation was great - dry ice on the oyster bed, special touches everywhere. Our meal was just beyond delicious in every...More
Impeccable service and a very accommodating hotel. I’ve stayed here twice this year and both experiences were fabulous. The Umstead is one of my favorite hotels to stay - the artwork and space are gorgeous and the spa is excellent. Herons is an amazing restaurant...More

I would agree with those who say that this is not a good restaurant for kids. It might be OK in a private room, but unless your children are unusual the food at Herons would be wasted on them. In all seriousness, you might check to see if they would let you bring a platter of nuggets from the Chick-Fil-A across the street. My kids would have preferred that at ages 4 and 6. My 7 year-old still would.
