We had the five course fish and seafood taster menu [in reality seven courses with the amuse-bouche and the spiced coffee]. What superb food! Beautifully presented and the waiter gave a succinct, interesting description of each dish. So much of the ‘fine cuisine’ served in...Europe has lost its links with the locality - elaborate confections that could be from anywhere. But this menu is an authentically Zanzibari delight. We felt mellow and contented when it came to an end - the hall mark of a great time in a lovely restaurant! The weather was warm and the lights from the harbour twinkled. We heard the muezzin’s call and felt so lucky to have moments like this in our lives. If you can put this on your list of things to do in Stone Town you will have a memorable dinner.More

We have been in Stone Town recently and we went to dinner at Emerson Spice Tea house. The experience was good and the views are impressive. In our opinion, the food was just right and I would like to say that personally, the maître seemed...somewhat arrogant and not very friendly. The stairs to get up to the terrace have their own, if the temperature is also 27ºC and with high humidity. That said, the restaurant is interesting and a good detail is that they accompany you on foot to return to the hotel, if you are in the center.More

We are fortunate enough to eat in many nice restaurants, including Michelin-starred ones. The 5 course menu we experienced at Emerson Spice Rooftop was simply amazing - creative use of local ingredients, combined to form new taste sensations. We were very impressed! They delivered high-end...dining for great value ($40 USD per person). Service was friendly and easy-going. The setting is on the rooftop, so yes, you need to be able to climb those stairs. But that provides great ambiance to an upscale meal! Book ahead (with a $10 USD deposit per person; dinner service expects everyone to be ready to be served at 7 pm). Sunset drinks beforehand from 6 pm onwards.More

I went to the rooftop restaurant for the sunset and diner. It has a nice view from there. I think it was the best restaurant in Zanzibar, they have a different menu everyday, the food is fresh and sincerely amazing. A mix of spices, and...food and it was just perfect. The waiter was so nice, explaining every dishes. It was very cheap for the quality and quantity of food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone going in stone town!More

It took us a while to find this roof top restaurant in a labyrinth of Stone Town alleyways. When we found it there was a good climb to the top. The view at the top was great- could see all round the town. The food...on the afternoon menu was lovely. The choice was vegetable dishes, fish dishes or a combination of both. We had the combination. Loved the veggie dishes but the two fish were so tasty and stole the show. For the quality and the amount of food this was cheap. The waiter was friendly and we had a good laugh with him. If you have mobility issues you would never make it to the top. There is no lift. They could serve you on the lower floors.More

Hands down, my favorite experience in Stone Town. A journey with flavors, helpful and friendly staff, great scenery. The cost is pretty good for what u get, very worth it.

Great location in old style building. Very central. Staff super friendly, beds comfortable, food excellent. Go to the roof terrace even if you don’t have dinner. As with most old places in Stone town there is no lift but the stairs add to the charm.

We had a very pleasant dinner here in September. View is indeed pretty. Food is fine, and well worth the $40 price, but execution and quality is not comparable to other high-end tasting menus around the world (I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks it is...clearly hasn't experienced many.......). Tip - as advised, we did arrive early enough to experience the sunset, but be warned that so doing results in a VERY long evening (i.e. we left before the dessert course was served as we just couldn't sit there any longer).More

This is a tasting menu to rival the very best worldwide! $40 is a steal for an innovative and delicious 7 course menu (with a mini amuse bouche and sweet treats to accompany coffee it is 7 not 5). After circling thru narrow alleyways to find the location, being greeted by pleasant hotel staff, making my payment then surviving the climb to the 5th floor...the effort was worth it!!! It was a great way to end my first evening in Zanzibar. The sunset, well...the bit of it one could see through the various buildings and rooftops...no seaviews...the call to worship while one awaited the beginning of the 5 course meal. The staff explaining the options, each course. It was quite lovely. I left feeling fulfilled and bonus the security guided me back to my hotel.More

Excellent tasting experience of Zanzibar seafood and spices. Never tasted these combinations before. E.g. baobab source with kingfish. Fantastic Chef, and all staf very professional and explaining all about the food and spicies in the servings. The bisque, absolutely wonderful, but the other servings came...in just second to this. A Must Try.More
