For small town, Tavern, and restaurant, this is a real gem. The weight staff are great, the service is terrific, and the food is of high-quality. We live in the same town, and if we were a night out without stress, and expecting delicious food,...this is our destination.More

The food was solidly mediocre. The dumplings were good but the pizza was a disappointment. But the spinach was horrid. There was a metal wire in it. Decent food but worst spinach in the world.

So glad we stopped in. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful, and you won't break the bank. Just a really nice place to dine for lunch or dinner, with a laid back atmosphere. Dress is casual weekend fare, So just enjoy...your meal and put this one on your come back list. Added Perk: They have parking behind and on the side of the building.More

My Go To Favorite! Food is always consistently good. Atmosphere is nice. Can get a good drink with dinner. Chicken Milanese and tuna wrap are my favorites. Always pleasant when we pick up takeout orders during covid. Feel comfortable inside during covid as well. Will...be going back!More

My family was out for a visit with teenagers, some of which are quite fussy eaters. The menu is great. There is something for everyone. And everything was very good. The fire was lit in the diningroom which was nice on a chilly winter day....This place is small, but very popular with the locals...for good reason!More

Enjoying the North Fork on a beautiful fall day will build a big appetite. We let our fingers do the searching and liked what we read about the Founders Tavern. What a delightful surprise! We were quite taken with the diversity of the lunch menu....We decided to order a variety of apps so we could really sample the Tavern’s offerings. We started with an order of the Firecracher Chips. Never seen anything like these and all three of us « couldn’t just eat one »! These are real home-made potato chips with melted Blue Cheese fondue, drizzled with a buffalo sauce and topped with chopped scallions. Out of this world good and what we didn’t eat here we took home and they reheated beautifully! That was a hard act to follow, but they did. The Marinated Filet Mignon Tips on garlic toast with a creamy horseradish dipping sauce were superb. We all enjoyed the Chicken & Lemongrass Dumplings, and the ultra-thin crust Margarita Pizza was delicious (and leftovers heated well at home). Our only disappointment was a mixed drink my former bartender-husband had that was too weak, which was easily remedied with another shot of bourbon. We would go out of our way to return here, the food was that good. Check it out on the Main drag in Southold.More

This establishment is a homey, neighborhood tavern serving farm to table veggies and local catches. I can’t say that I’ve ever been disappointed here. On my last visit I had sesame crusted tuna over cilantro lime rice. It was literally the best I’ve ever had.

You know this place is good because it is supported by the local residents in and around Southold, Greenport and Mattituck. The burgers are consistently delicious, and I return to their roast turkey and bacon sandwich repeatedly, even for dinner. The thick, cuts of turkey...and freshly cooked bacon are really mouth-watering. It's a testimony to what a little freshness and care can do for a meal - it's not fancy, it's not expensive, and the reliable "bells and whistles" - - fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, just round it all out for a sense of real homey and comfort food.More

No idea why every restaurant in Southold is closed on a Tuesday (yes, even Pizza place) but luckily Founders is open! Bar with separate dining room. Kid friendly environment. Loved the grilled/seared fresh tuna with wasabi wrap...delish. Juicy burgers, cooked as requested, with lots of...variations to appeal to different tastes.More

I had lunch and dinner here recently. At lunch, I had the hamburger with trimmings. Excellent. Service was friendly. At dinner, I ordered the chicken Milanese. Superb. A huge portion (lunch the next day at home). This place looks ordinary but the food and drinks...were excellent. Good wine list too. And the prices very reasonable. Family friendly.More

I’ve stopped by twice recently for lunch, and each time was equally good. The menu is varied and the service was good. We ordered a couple of “to go” items as well, and they were good when we heated them up later for a snack.

Great, cozy, friendly place for lunch. We will be back the next time we are in this neighborhood. The bartender was friendly, service was great, the prices reasonable, the beer was cold and the sausage sandwiches we ordered were delicious!

They make a great marinated sirloin tip steak sandwich. The meat is tender and bread is fresh and tasty. It comes with the usual sides and a horseradish sauce. You can eat it at the bar or a table or pick up orders to go....The bar area is busy in the evenings and the atmosphere is friendly and "local". The crowd is usually middle aged and up but everyone will feel welcome.More
