We repeat our visits every time we travel Rt 17 upstate from our Long Island home. It is a friendly place, always busy, wait staff is always chatty and the food is great. We love looking at all the NY State college banners hanging all...around the restaurant! Hope you get he chance to visit the Roscoe Diner soon.More

Great classic diner, located 2 minutes off of 17! Apparently the trout fishing capital. Great food and great service! Enjoy

I visited the Roscoe diner regularly when my niece was in college but haven’t been there for years. We stopped on our way to the City & as usual, it didn’t disappoint. It’s an old-school diner in that you can get breakfast anytime of day....I didn’t get a milkshake (which was a necessity if my niece was in the car) but I had French toast which was very good. Our server was great! She had a sense of humor which always makes the day a little brighter. If you’re on rt. 17, you should check it out for yourself and… Enjoy!!More

The first time I went to Roscoe Diner it was very busy so when we stood for quite awhile waiting to be seated, we understood. When we were finally seated our waitress was snippy when we asked questions about the menu, she was rude. Her...rudeness left us having a bad overall experience. We said we'd never go back. Well three years later, we decided to try it again. That was yesterday. This time it was pretty empty - in between lunch and dinner time. But once again we waited and waited to be seated even though several workers passed us by, non even acknowledging our presence with a simple "someone will be right with you." But that wasn't the worst of it. While our waitress was pleasant, the problem came when we got the bill. Myself, my husband and my sister all ordered water for drinks with our lunch, but the bill included $9 for three sodas. When my husband brought that to the attention of the waitress and asked for her to take it off the bill, she said matter of factly, oh, just tell the cashier. The cashier didn't blink an eye when I told her. Nor did she apologize. It made me wonder if this was a common experience. And,  I also wonder how many people don't check their bill- and just pay it? My advice to anyone deciding to go to Roscoe Diner - check your bill before paying! For us there will not be a third time!More

Food came out quickly and was okay. I had a bacon and cheese omelet that was nicely sized but overcooked a bit. Did not order the hash because it was canned and I'm a bit of snob there, prefer home made hash. Coffee was refilled...often. The desserts and cookies looked yummy but we opted not to try them at breakfast.More

My wife and I stopped in for dinner; it was the first time I had been in the Roscoe Diner in many years, and I have to admit that I was somewhat disappointed. Service was polite, although the woman who met us at the front...of the house was notably unenthusiastic, and the waiter first seemed to be rushing us into our order, and then disappeared for an excessively long time when we asked for a couple of minutes to decide. As for the food, I had the teriyaki steak, which was properly cooked in a tasty sauce. However, the baked potato came half-wrapped in aluminum foil, which is always a nuisance to remove. Most of my onion rings were well-battered and properly fried, but the diner would do well not to also serve the broken dregs from the fryer basket, that were overcooked, greasy, and somewhat distasteful. My wife took advantage of the breakfast all day, and ordered the western omelet with an extra egg. However, an extra egg apparently didn't equate to extra filling, so the omelet seemed a little shy of ham, etc. She ordered home fries, which seemed a reasonable "breakfast all day" accompanyment, only to be told that thety are only made during the morning, so she ordered a side of corned beef hash, which was tasty, but could have been browned a little more. Over all, not the experience that I remembered at this diner.More

We have always stopped on our way to NYC. Breakfast being our favorite. Waitress was blaise and inattentive. Home fries and eggs were cold , hash was burnt and flat, pancakes were so dry that they split. Too much money for a lousy meal. Being...in a resort town and a popular food destination has gone to their head , they are no longer striving to be the amazing restaurant they used to be. Sad .More

I keep trying to give the place a chance, but the last few times we have stopped there (as it's convenient location), it was mediocre at best. Nothing special at all. The food was edible, but really had no reason to say we needed to...come back. You are almostt better with a McDonald's breakfast, and that's sad for a diner. They don't even cook their own home fries potatoes with vreakfast, they are frozen cubed tasteless potatoes from a frozen bag. It seems to be getting worse instead of better. A shame, management needs to wake up that they can't go on the mastalgia of the "World Famous Roscoe Diner" alone.More

Been coming here for years. The staff always make you feel at home. Lately the quality from the kitchen has been slipping. Had breakfast today with a party of 5. 4 of the 5 were disappointed. And breakfast shouldn’t be difficult for a diner kitchen....Not ready to give up on them yet but improvements are necessary in our opinion. Give it a chance and see what you think.More

We had breakfast several days in a row at the Roscoe Diner before fishing (they open at 6AM) and always had great food and service. The Greek omelette is excellent, as are the home fries and the servers readily refilled our coffee cups and could...not have been more helpful and friendly. Lots of regulars and an extensive menu to choose from for breakfast, lunch or dinner.More

I have fond memories of this place from grad school days, so when I came back to NY I was eager to go back. This is my 4th try, and it isn’t getting better. The staff are disengaged and seem to know they got you...(because not much else between Binghamton and Monticello). Food is mediocre for a diner and the service is less than mediocre. This will be the last try, I will be packing a sandwich from now on.More

Been stopping at the Roscoe Diner for decades and always looked forward to it. Had our first post - Covid road trip and stopped in tonight on the way home. The food was over cooked and dry - worst burger we’ve maybe ever seen and...not served as requested. The restrooms were hot, smelly and filthy. The staff seemed stretched thin. We were more than disappointed and will be stopping somewhere else next time. I do want to give a shout out to our server, a young and polite gentlemen who checked on us several times. Otherwise, I don’t know what has happened but the quality of the Roscoe Diner has gone south.More

Three stars is a gift because in the past we've had good meals here. Calamari app was WAY overcooked and tasteless. (Amazing considering it was 5 PM and only one other table in the place was occupied). Pork chop was tough. Vegetables were overcooked and...mushy. Manhattan clam chowder was creamy and contained potato chunks but virtually no clam pieces or clam taste. If this is how the food is when they're not busy during a pandemic I shudder to think what it will be like if they ever get busy again!! In fairness, the server did a good job.More

Despite primarily live in NYC, we tend to dine out at restaurants outside of the city. My most recent experience was one of the worst ones at a diner called Roscoe Diner. In particular, our waitress named Donna gave us a nasty attitude the moment...we stepped into the diner. In addition to her attitude, the diner was also in bad condition and in need of a renovation. On the bright side, the food did taste alright. A friend recommended this diner, but I guess they didn't have Donna as a waitress.More

This historic diner did not live up to its past glory for a Sunday AM breakfast. The coffee was better than average for a diner, but the rest of the food (pancakes, bacon, and an egg sandwich) were just average, nothing special, and nothing worth...a special trip. Service was good, but not great. Overall an average experience with higher prices than expected for this small town.More
