Our waitress was wonderful but the food was not so good. We had a burger and a chicken panini. The burger patty was a lot like McDonald’s- tasteless. The eggplant on the panini was like leather. You couldn’t even bite into it. They must use...dehydrated eggplant (if there is such a thing). And the panini bread was not grilled. That’s the whole idea of a panini, right? When I complained, I was told that they didn’t actually have a panini grill. Then why call it a panini? I would’ve gotten something else! Btw, the French fries were pretty goodMore

Perfect place to go if heading to one of the upstate colleges. The entire place is decorated with college pennants, service is excellent, and food is very good.

I have been coming here on and off (while passing through) for about 40 years. My last two experiences, and especially my last, lead me to conclude that I will avoid it from now on. I guess the most important thing to comment on is...the food: really mediocre. My omelette was flavorless and my son's Reuben, according to him, was horrible. And he loves Reubens. We thought it would be fun to get an order of four blintzes for the table, and they were practically inedible; we should have devoured them but instead left 2 1/2 on the plate. I will say that the french fries were pretty good. OK, that's the food; now the service. The waitress was pretty good and we have no complaints there. But the hostess/cashier just phoned in her job. There was literally a line out the door for ten minutes that we waited on, when there were tons of empty tables in the restaurant! Worse, waitresses passed by the long line and did nothing. Finally the hostess/cashier came over after we had waited 10 minutes for nothing and seated us. Then, on the way out, I noticed that each item on the check had had 4% added on to it from the prices in the menu. I checked, and it wasn't tax, and it wasn't a mandatory gratuity. I thought maybe they were doing what some diners do and charging more for credit card payments? But that wasn't at all obvious on the check, the waitress had said nothing, I checked the menu and the cashier's station and nothing was posted. So I asked the hostess/cashier, and she very matter-of-factly said that I was reading it wrong and they just added 3.9% if we want to pay by credit card. OK, but that would have been nice to have been told. When I asked her if it says that on the menu, she said, "I have no idea what the menu says." Again, OK, sorta part of your job, right? In any event, I paid cash and got the discount - an unnecessary angst-filled way to do it when so many diners just give you the regular check with the menu prices and then have a big sign that says something like, "We add 3.5% for credit card fees." This just felt sneaky. (I did notice that the bottom of the check said something like, "Cash price $X.00," but it was out of context and just weird that each line item was not as it was in the menu. Anyway, this place needs management that will commit to caring about its customers. As it stands now, this place is lousy.More

Yeah, I agree with the recent reviews. Food is average. From New Jersey where there are plenty of good and above average diners that I've been to. It could be that it was Christmas weekend and food quality was lacking but pasta with marinara was...flavorless (a jar of Ragu would had tasted better), burger bland (meat was well done when medium was asked. Dry bun), and meatloaf was tasteless. Sorry...More

An oldie but a goodie! This place is consistently a great place to stop, rest, get a good meal, and a clean restroom. I truly appreciate the speed that they serve their customers- as they know many are traveling along the southern routes of New...York and northern routes of Pennsylvania. Thank you, Roscoe Diner!More

My wife and I live in the area and are checking out local affordable dining options. Except for the friendly and competent waitress, last night's visit to the Roscoe diner was a disaster. My wife's spinach pie was favorless, doughy and raw in the middle....Served on a wilted leaf of lettuce, it was probably microwaved. My open meatball sandwich turned out to be yesterday's meatloaf. It was served on two pieces of regular white bread together with flavorless, hard mixed vegetables. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good. The waitress did not charge us for the spinach pie so we opted for a shared dessert of chocolate cream pie. The pie was stale and tasteless. We will not be returning to the Roscoe Diner.More

We had been to the Roscoe Diner before and decided to try it again for dinner on our way back from a road trip. It was pretty good in the past, as diners go. Last night dinner was TERRIBLE! Our choices were simple, spinach pie,...Greek salad and a gyro. Standard fare for Greek diner, right? The spinach pie was inedible - it was limp and tasted horrible. The Gyro not much better. The service was also TERRIBLE. The waitress was, I'm sorry, dumb. She had no clue what to do so instead of tipping her we paid for the disgusting food. We will not go back again.More

The Roscoe Diner appears to be headed for hard times. We dine here now and then when passing through. Most times we have been pleased with our experience - a large selection of decent diner food at reasonable prices. This last visit was different. The...host chatted with others seated to the side for a good 10 minutes before even acknowledging us and two other parties waiting to be seated. Wait staff in the same area were looking at their phones and chatting among themselves. When the host finally came by she informed us that the "kitchen is on hold" with no explanation or estimate of how long we'd have to wait. Turned out there was a large party at the far end of the diner and the kitchen was having trouble keeping up. Unclear if the diner was understaffed, but 2-3 waitresses were hustling to help the large party while the rest of the staff just watched. A few other occupied tables had no food and people looked bored waiting. We were probably less than 5 minutes from going elsewhere when the host finally asked staff to clean some tables and seat us, which they did. But then the staff kept apologizing for the slow service, which it was. Ordering, getting our food, paying, all slow. The host and staff seemed to be going through the motions but not actually happy to be working. Instead of chatting and standing around, they should have been cleaning tables, fetching silverware and drinks, etc to keep the restaurant buzzing - but they did not. We will almost certainly try another place the next time we are hungry when passing through. New management is needed.More

Growing up in Upstate NY with grandparents that lived in the City we traveled Route 17 all the time and would sometimes stop at the Roscoe Diner. Today we were in the area and I thought it would be fun to relive childhood memories. We...stood in line at the host desk behind two other parties, with another family behind us and were completely ignored. The hostess with a miserable attitude came up to the hostess stand to refill the menus but did not greet any of us to so much as even say hello. The cashier did on the left did all she could to keep her head down and ignore us. We waited over ten minutes with not a word from anyone and by now the line was out the door. One of the people in front of us went to find out what was going on since the right half of the restaurant was completely empty and the left half had at least four open tables. Someone told him that “this kitchen was very backed up”. We waited another five minutes and still no one addressed us, explained about the wait, said hello or even acknowledged our presence! By now arguments we’re beginning between the people waiting in line and we wanted to get back on the road so we decided it was time to leave. I completely understand that things happen, staffing problems can back up a kitchen, etc. What is horrible is the complete and total lack of customer service in the front of house to not even acknowledge guests, much less communicate the issues. On the way back to the car I had a flashback of every time we would visit the Roscoe Diner when I was a kid, on the way out my mother would always say “the service was terrible”. It wasn’t the memory I was expecting to relive but I guess nothing has changed in 35 years.More

Travelling from Middletown to Beamsville, Ontario, we were looking for a decent place to stop for breakfast. We chose the Roscoe Dinner and we're very glad that we did. The food (corned beef hash and eggs and bacon) was excellent, served quickly by our friendly...waitress, coffee was great and the refills came right on time. One word of caution, home fries are only guaranteed until 11am. All in all though, great dinner food, good price, friendly service. If you're heading up NY 17 I would highly recommend stopping here.More

Terrible. The blonde hostess was mean and nasty. Very rude. No greeting, just sitting at a table at what it seems to be gossiping and ignoring the people at the door. Once seated at the counter I noticed two cooks, one who seemed to be...high dosing off by the grill while the other one I am assuming was on the phone or talking to himself. The waitress that helped me was also very rude, not a smile a hello or anything “what can I get you” for some reason my bacon cheese burger was burnt like a hockey puck, and told at least thirty minutes to finally get. Not once did the waitress come back and ask if I needed anything. I had to find another older women to print my check. Once I went to pay the blonde was still sitting and talk to whoever else was at the table. That place is terrible, I’d never go here again. Between the rude service and the high cooks. This place has gone down hill.More

The Roscoe Diner, with its many college and university flags hanging proudly on its walls, reminds me of drives to and from college in upstate NY in the '90s. Not much has changed since then at the Diner, and that is a good thing, as...it serves tasty and reasonably priced fare that can be enjoyed by all ages. Shout out to my waitress, Savannah, who was great!More
